"You find an artifact, but your backpack and bank are too full to hold it."

I was just in the Fan Dancer Dojo and was told I found an artifact, but that my backpack and bank were too full to hold it.

My backpack: 28/125 items, 386/428 stones
My bank: 148/150 items, 1985 stones

What gives? My backpack and bank are not full, and I have more than enough space to hold the artifact. Killed some more fan dancers to test if I'd get it on the next kill and no dice.. just gotta grind it out again.

might be a chest of heirlooms, in which case its too heavy (overweight gives the too full message)

and the weight difference between the backpack and the status is accounted for by your character weight.

...

Probably a chest of Heirlooms which tends to weigh quite a bit, gets dropped in the bank and holds several items in which case you'd be overweight in terms of being able to hold it on your character and 2 items is NOT enough room for it in the bank.

How can someone have more than a 125 item limit for their bank?

You can use a Storage Increase Code (for sale at UOGameCodes.com) that will increase your bank and house storage by 20%, or by 25 if your limit is 125 (equaling 150).

I agree with the chest of heirloom suspicion.

It is too heavy to go into your backpack. So it tries the bank. Unfortunately, it can't fit there either due to item count.

I have a question though, when increased storage was introduced, there was this issue where certain events didn't recognize it, like collecting gold from vendors and arty drops. They seem to have been hard coded with a 125 item limit.

Was this resolved? Can anyone confirm if you ever had an tomarty pop into your upgraded 150 item capacity bank vault that already had more than 125 items?

If not, it might be wise for folks to empty their banks temporarily.

It's not just the weigh (for backpack), chest of heirlooms is full of crap so it could be the item count too. *edit* okay the pic finally loaded, guess it's not item count :)

It's simple...

the character weight causes it to bounce to the bank.

the bank item count then causes the chest to be lost.

it was done that way in the original ToT and ToT II to make completely unattended people lose stuff (as the items are heavy enough that you'll probably hit weight before item count, especially if you get a few chests). Chests would then be the items most likely to bounce to the bank, thereby filling it to the "oops you lost it" point quicker...

that's not a very nice thing to say. i don't know the OP but why would you assume that, especially since he has a screenie of his journal - if he was afk he'd have no screenie and he'd wouldn't have even known he missed out on a treasure... just saying. not everyone is an afk scripter.

Yeah, I'm an afk collector okay.. can't you tell by the scripts running in the background of my screenshot?

Keep dreaming buddy.

I'll go with that sucks. Sorry to hear about it...

Can you imagine the pile of stuff there would be if everything any of the players was ever cheated out of by the game was in one spot?

Just because it sounds like an unattended problem doesn't mean that he was. I think a lot of people loading this thread went in with that assumption.

But given the nature of the screenshot and especially the fact that he caught and realized that the drop didn't happen doesn't support that he was.

I say that because he didn't catch the issue right away... its showing far far back in his journal. If I get that message, I am going to be going to my bank forthwith and empting both it and my back pack.. not wait for another hour or so to take a screenie.

But not everyone is you. When am withering in the champ spawn I go on for hours not bothering checking if anything is in my bank. My back pack sure not my bank hell I still don't know if I got things in my bank. I don't even know when I receive a reward all I see is all the spam in names and monsters dying at my feet. Oh part of my unofficial poll are you fellucian or trammalite?

From the screenie, I do not think he is farming unattended. Although he uses a cu, he is also using archery, meaning he's not a "hide tamer".

For the general public, be careful what you post on the net, like on blogs/forums etc. Alot of info can be found.

Eg:

Game: OP name and shard is there. He is a elf chiv (EoO'd the fan dancer) archer tamer with a cu. "z" binded to the marco for lightning strike. Also has vet. Looks like he's farming the fan dancers near exit of the fan dancer dojo (clicked on "rug")

No macro progs visible or telltale traces in the journal. No UOA even.

Other possible info:
1) Uses XP
2) Has firefox installed
3) Also has adobe acrobat CS 3 installed
4) Using a laptop
5) Using a wide screen (1690 x 1050)

Sometimes there is just too much going on to catch everything that happens when it happens.

I was hunting the Tsuki Wolves and Bake Kitsune last night. I decided to leave and go someplace else but wanted to drop stuff at the bank first. Whenever I get a ToT I have a special pouch I put it in. As I was cleaning out my backpack I noticed a deep red pigment in my backpack. I have no idea when I received it and I was NEVER afk.

So just because you don't "catch the issue right away" doesn't mean you are afk.

I get the same message when turning in BODs if my weight is higher than 310 stones. 310 stones used to be the old max weight. It must be hard-coded into a weight-check algorithm somewhere. As others have pointed out, the Chest of Heirlooms would have put your bank box over the quantity limit.

I had the heirloom thing happening the other day. It fitted the chest into my bank bringing it to 132 items, so when I took it out... I couldn´t place it back.

Well I wasn't macroing unattended, no clue where that even came into play in this thread. I was on my archer just ripping away in the Dojo. The reason it's far back in my journal is because, like I said, I stayed around and killed a few more fan dancers to see if the drop was "saved for my next kill" but it was not. Then, I ran out of the Dojo with "Show Names of Approaching..." enabled which flooded my journal. Nothing fishy.. And the screenshot was taken less than two minutes after the failed drop. Why are you on the offensive so much? Of everyone in UO I'll be the last to ever macro afk.

Well I'm not a tamer, the Cu Sidhe is an ethereal (10th year veteran reward). I'm a straight chiv archer. Also, my hiding is at 10.3 and going down. Side note: Even with 0 hiding, you can still hide about 10% of the time.

Additionally, I'm not too worried about what people see in the screenshot. Character's name is Mudflaps, I play Great Lakes, I'm a chiv archer, but I was actually inside the second room of the Dojo when the 'failed drop' occured. And, I do not use UOAssist-- never have, never will.

It may have been the Heirlooms chest then, that never crossed my mind. Hopefully my next drop doesn't fail ... *crosses fingers*.

Okay, I can now confirm that if either your backpack or your bank box is full you will not receive an artifact and this message will come up.

It's happened for the last three drops and it's getting annoying.. my backpack has 20 items at 219 stones (out of a possible 428). My bank box has 150 items out of a possible 150 (i.e. maxed out).

So I go to Tokuno and kill a bunch of fan dancers.. after 20 minutes I get a message telling me I found an artifact but that my backpack and bankbox are too full to hold it. This is not true. So I test the system now and fill up my backpack with gold so I am right at 428/428 stones but free up some space in my bank. Guess what? Same result. I get the message after 20 more minutes of killing fan dancers that my backpack and bankbox are too full to hold the artifact.

So, it's broken.. Tried and tested three times and the same result occurred each time. And, honestly, what are the chances of getting three Chests of Heirlooms in a row? Even so, it should have been placed into my backpack on the drop when my backpack only had 219/428 stones and 20/125 items.

I had this happen to me at a champ spawn. I don't understand why the arty can't just go to the ground instead of you not getting it at all. If the person is AFK and the arty goes to the ground, they won't get it anyway. I'd rather the arty drop at my feet and someone around me pick it up than it just go *poof*...at least SOMEONE got something out of it.
