...tame and control things like Rune Beetles, Cu Sidhes, Dragons, and Nightmares?

I just reached GM Taming and GM Lore a couple nights ago and wanted to figure out when I can finally get a couple good pets and begin using them in battle. Thanks.

With gm, you can tame and control Rune beetles, nightmares, regular dragons, bakes Kitsune easily, You need to have more taming for the cu's.
If you check stratics you can put in your skill levels and get an idea of what you can tame. Hope this helps

To tame pets you need to be at or above the minimum taming skill. However, at minimum taming level you'll either get very lucky or spend ages trying to successfully tame it :D I'd suggest boosting up as high as you can with skill items when you go out taming to speed things up as much as possible. I found 110-115 was great most of the time, so you don't need to panic about a 120 scroll just to tame new pets.

One of the best pets for a new tamer is the bake kitsune. You can have 2 plus an ethy or other 1 slot mount and you'll easily have 99% control at GM/GM. I'd recommend them as they'll give you the practice handling multiple pets while being mounted. And they giggle ;)

Nightmares, normal dragons and rune beetles will be under control at GM/GM so you're fine for those already. Cu sidhe are a bit harder to tame/control so you'll either need to train a bit or use skill items to get going with those.

I tend to add 5.0 skill to the minimum taming level of a pet to figure out when I should be able to control it about 99% of the time. That's not a particularly scientific way of looking at it, but it gives you a quick ballpark figure when you look over the taming difficulty figures.

Just to clarify, you don't have to have 99% control, but I think when you're new to taming it's good to avoid concerns about pets ignoring commands. So I would suggest you try to aim for 99% control if you can, and keep an eye on their happiness with regular loring, especially if your control % is lower. Keep a stash of food in your pack to boost happiness up and you're good to go.

Most tamers don't know that if you command your pet 3 times in a row that they obey, the pets loyalty goes up. If you are careful to watch your pets loyalty, you can do this during battle and not have to worry about feeding it while the Dark Father is doing area damage.

All Kill - lore for loyalty, or listen for it to obey. Repeat until its loyalty is max. If it refuses too many times, ya - you have to feed it.

Wenchkin hit it right on the head, get a couple of bakes. Be picky about their stats and resists when you tame them. The little foxes are under rated for their ability to get the job done I.E. KILLING SH**......

Don't put 100% (or 99% :p) faith in the calculator on stratics - I lost my lore skill in an accident with some soulstone transfers and (impatiently) trained it back to the point the stratics calculator states you get 99% for a greater dragon given my real tame skill.

Well it disobeyed a few commands in a row and became rather unhappy so don't completely trust it.

If there's a problem with the Stratics calculator, I'd suggest you give Petra a note so she can get it fixed.

I use Noxin's one and haven't had any issues with it, just manually enter the minimum taming skill for any pets that aren't on his list and it'll work it out just fine.

you rang?

I just checked the files. The page in use was dated 2004. There was a 'new' file dated 2008 that wasn't in use and I'm not sure why. I've swapped them over, so if someone wants to do some testing I'd appreciate the feedback.

Tested for a greater and it shows what I presume to be more accurate control requirements for a Greater Drag (115/100 was showing as 99% cc before your change)
