Just started, not impressed.

Hi everyone,

I've basically just spent a while downloading the 14 day trial, been in game for only a few minutes trying to do the *simple* tutorial. When it gets to the part that tells you to left click on an object in a crate and drag it to your backpack I got stumped.

Thats it, as far as i can go. Left clicking and dragging does nothing. All items including what i have in my backpack will not move by left clicking and dragging. everything else works fine, double left clicking on containers and objects, skills etc. I just cannot move any items at all.

Has this been heard of before and is there a way to fix it. I would like to give UO another go but this is insane.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are supposed to keep the left click pressed while you drag.

*Left button down over item*
*Move mouse - dragging item to desired location*
*Release left mouse button*

In KR tutorial I, also, could never get that section of the instructions to work. I gave up and passed over it in every attempt.

The click and drag *might* work if the items could be picked up at all, and I never could

This is a fairly new bug that I discovered and reported last weekend. Log out and then log back in, and you will be able to drag items.

SevenFaith, I have tried that. I've actually played UO before..a very long time ago..probably going back 8 years or maybe even more. But this new KR client is a change and yes it seems that everything i try to move, not only that part of the tutorial even afterwards..will not move. Items are all locked down..so i cannot equip anything, nor transfer something from one place to another etc etc. It would seem without this basic function the game is unplayable.

Second part of the tutorial is to pick up a katana and give to an NPC..cant do that either..even if i cancel tutorial altogether and go into game proper, i still cannot pick up/move items.

Very frustrating.

It is a known long standing issue with the KR client. Only workaround is to exit out and restart. The new SA client is to fix this issue. While it is an annoying bug, it shouldn't dampen your thoughts of playing.

Logging out and back in doesn't always fix it. Exit completly out for a sure fix.

Oh, sorry. I didn't notice that you were playing in KR. I have never touched that client as 2D looks like a piece of art.

As Gildar said, log out and back in, things should work fine afterward.

That is a bug, actually, that occurs in the KR Tutoral. I had it happen to a character recently. Go to help, and page a GM - they might be able to help.

Or, try clicking a skill icon (anatomy, for example) and target the guy by the table. That might clear it as well.

I'm sorry that's you're having trouble, but that is the annoying thing about the KR client. Due to a certain non-US EA branch making commitments that they knew weren't keepable, KR was released too early, and has been buggy ever since.

A replacement client for it (Stygian Abyss) is currently in closed beta, and will be coming out in the next 3 months, that is the KR client rebuilt from the ground up (since many of the premature release induced bugs could not be patched satisfactorily).

Also, try shutting your computer down, and restarting it, then restarting KR.

You'll want to finish the tutorial when you're done, in KR - but after you get into New Haven, you can use the 2D client for that character (a much simpler client based on the original program).

The two clients have their advantages and disadvantages, one of KR's advantages being more skill points to start each character. Another is better crafting options. And, KR also works better if you download a custom UI for it (see the Kingdom Reborn forum below this one).

Fingers crossed. Been having the UO nostalga bug for a few days now..would love to traverse across my old stomping ground..though i doubt id even remember it.

Oh and if anyone from 8 years ago still plays and used to play on Oceania, my toon was Sparhawk. Was in a guild called OrB.. (i know, they werent the most popular)

Any other questions you have about the KR client, feel free to ask (no matter what it may be as long as you're attempting to understand the client) over on the KR forum as there are quite a few KR-savvy people that hang out over there who can help you get up and running.

Note that the old 2D client is still available, and the KR client is due to be discontinued shortly. The up-and-coming Stygian Abyss expansion will replace it with the (identically named) Stygian Abyss client.

When i selected the 14-day trial from uo.com i just got to download Setup-uokr-2.58.0.2-enu.exe from Fileplanet. When i load the game it doesnt give me an option for 2d or 3d. Just straight into KR. Not sure if thats what you meant.

If you mean to download the 2d old client seperately, i might wait till ive messed around with this one. It took long enough. heh

And I have to say thanks again guys for your prompt and helpful replies. I think one of the main things i missed back when I was playing UO 8-9 years ago was the community, the stratics forums especially.

Just wish I could remember my damn password for my ol' forum login - Sparhawk_OrB

If you ever want to, you can download the 2D client from EA's server:

It's the last file named "setup-1.46.0.3.exe", (it's 700 mb, but the site is very, fastest download I found). The other 2 setup files there are for KR.



I have the same issue with the KR installed on my PC. Logout doesn't work, I need to exit the client completely and restart it to get the mouse drag to work. Funny thing is, I had installed KR on my laptop previously and didn't have this issue.



Regarding your forum account, the stratics server crashed a while back and there was some info lost, including accounts. So if you are unable to login to your old account, PM Petra Fyde to see if she can help (might need to provide proof that the account is yours).

Trollish hyperbole is trollish.

Long-standing KR bug, solved with a quick relog as many posters have noted. Plenty of people use KR, it's not really any more buggy than 2D, just buggy in new and different ways. You may as well get used to the KR UI sooner rather than later, with SA incoming. It won't even make your eyes bleed like it's 1997 either.

Hang in there OP, the game needs fresh blood. As you can see, much of the old blood is... stale.
