i just got a password request for my uo account in my email.... now i have been hacked before last year so the guy that has my account name could just be toying with me because he can just put in the account name and forgot password so it sends me an email to scare me, or he could somehow know my email password which i doubt, but i changed all the pws and got a new email for uo as well....

what would you draconi or any other member from the dev team recommend doing in this situation? i really wish EA was able to change your account name if you asked them to... or maybe they could make it so that you can't ask for a password request unless u give the whole credit card number, but lemme tell you that'll get your heart beating fast when your email says "forgot password from EA and here it is" any thoughts on hacking prevention anyone? If only I worked for the FBI i would just seek these people out and give them their just desserts...

Damn hackers....
unless they know the actual email address used for that account i doubt very much that your account will be in any danger :thumbsup:

To be on the safe side update your Email password and your account password. I keep saying i'm going to do one for UO but Pogo did a great job with explaining secure passwords here.

Not shabby and quite clear to newbies!

Our password "rules" at work just changed from 8 character length with one numeric character in position 2-8 to that plus one special character (of about 6) in position 2 - 8 as well. They also are now enforcing things like:
1. words cannot be used, even if separated by specials or numbers - two2bad! is not valid. words ...
2. consecutive occurences of the same letter cannot be done - too2bad! is also illegal. words plus double "o".
3. all letters must be lower-case. IMO, that's not a good thing ... mixed case can block any ucase or lcase (toupper or tolower) functions very quickly.

Sooo, it's a royal pain to change these every 6 months (or sooner if needed).

Again as with last week when this happened to someone else I'll recommend that you indeed change your passwords, make sure to use the question regarding passwords.

Get a new E-Mail and be sure that this email is use ONLY for your UO accounts.. do NOT ever use it for websites, forums or anything else but UO...

Use secure passwords and change them often... seasonally, or every other month... anytime you have any question about the security of your account.... don't risk it.

You can change the security question too.

Don't ever give your account name to anyone. Don't use your account name on a character... or anywhere else..... don't make it an easy account name... don't post on forums using the account name... Make sure whatever it is you use for an account name is only used for your account and nothing else. Don't make it easy for hackers.

Just as I told the person this last week, this isn't much to be worried about. If your account has been on someone else's hands before, and you've owned this account for more than a month, then there's not much the other person can do unless you have a keylogger. Simply change your password/email just to be safe and move on.

I could sit in and type emails of all the people I've received them from in UO. It doesn't mean I have any way of getting on the account.

Just update the email to one you use for nothing else, if it still happens then I'd worry more.

i don't see the option to use a security question

Ill tell ya the best way to create a password that couldnt even be hacked by ENIGMA.... Think of 3 BIG moments in your like [who you lost ya cherry to, first car (first is usually the easiest to remember) first holiday, then change all the letter that represent numbers like:

1=i
2=z
3=e
4=a
5=s
6=g
7=t
8=8
9=g again
0=o

then all you have to write down or remember or set as your question are emma ford escort spain!!!! NO ONE unless they know you to well will be able to hack it for atleast 10 years of trying every combo of every blah blah blah

But ya get my jist

or now this is my own. take every other letter and use its number reprensation from the alphabet/number rule then add a random number to the and move it along that many then devide by another number and multiply by another random number and you really end up with [dhjdj58930ugjskvsnli4wo5fdn] as your password but all you have to remember is add [random] move[random] devide[random] = [something you wont forget]

that said no password isnt hackable if you have the time/patients and software :D

Unlimited text messages and a cell phone, all cells have email addresses.
You can Google "cell phone email addresses" if you don't know your cell phones email address.

I haven't heard of many streamline attack vectors for stealing cell phone text messages/emails.
