Stygian Abyss Beta Key Competition
Objective:

Create Your Own Concept of the Abyss

Please Note: This is not a house building contest, we want to see your best vision of the Abyss

How:

Using currently available housing tiles and decor items

Where:

On any EA shard, including test center

or using Kurgan's housebuilder.

Entries:

Up to four images, cropped to the game window only - no top bar, no task bar, no paper doll

800 x 600 maximum size. .jpg, .gif or .png format.

Eligibility:

Must be a beta test applicant (apply here if you haven't yet )

one entry per person.

Exclusions:

Current beta testers (Winning entries will be checked by EA)

UO.Stratics Admins.

Entry period:

Starts: Now! Closes: Midnight (EDT) Saturday 27th June.

Winners:

Will be selected from the entries by a panel of judges.

We tried to come up with something just a little bit different, I hope we succeeded.

I didn't really think of it as 'art' We're not asking you to paint a picture or draw, I suppose it could be considered a kind of sculpture. I'm really looking forward to seeing what people dream up.

How many prized will be awarded? Who will judge such a contest? (No names.. just the general criterion).

Storm: Not really, the criteria requires you to use items that are available to players, photoshop would allow you to use anything that's in the game.
Sweeney: As per Chrissay's information, 3 beta codes have been allocated to each participating fan site. The judging panel is the entire UO.Stratics admin team, excluding myself.

for Kurgans housebuilding tool... you can use any object that is available in it or no? for example i think a catapult is in there

only the items that are available to a player in game. It wouldn't be fair to allow you to use things people building on shards or test center have no way to obtain.

I don't exactly understand what it is you're asking us to be doing. How would we make the abyss with 4 800x600 images? The thing is supposed to be 8 levels deep and very massive.. i'm kinda lost, here..

we're not asking you to re-create the real thing, Your concept of it using housing tiles. 4 images because you can make up to 4 levels on a uo building plot.

You've seen house tiles and decor items used to make gardens, caves, mountains, if you've ever visited the homes and castles forum. For this competition we're asking you to build an abyss.

I was confused by what exactly they were looking for. I didn't do it for the regulations. I'm more of a Inside UO and Paint person for my designs.

Well, unlike the bank design for EA, we didn't want people to use decor that wasn't available to you as a player in game, we kind of expected people to use things like lava floor tiles, maybe stone walls, granite, buccs rocks, doom rock, etc etc. Maybe for my first competition I choose the wrong medium. I'll award myself a big 'FAIL' badge and try harder next time. Sorry about the beta codes though looks like no one will be getting one via Stratics unless the entries all come in before Saturday midnight.

i am trying to do mine but the housebuilder thing is crashing on me all the time, i managed to save 1st floor as a jpg, but it crashed before i got to save it as a house builder file.
so i rebuilt it as best i could to original, was about to save it and guess what? it crashed.
Quite po'd atm will hopefully try again soon, if not all you will get is my entry room lvl =/

this happens to me too. i usually end up pressing the save button every 5 minutes just in case

I plan on entering, but haven't had a lot of time to sit down and design anything. I got the basic idea of what I'm going to do. I'll probably end up sending my entry in on the last day. I bet others are planning to send theirs in towards the end too, i think this is what happened for the bank design contest. Don't give up hope yet

I can't post the entries before the judging, but afterwards all entries will be on display and if anyone else wants to produce their version not-for-entry I don't see why I can't add those on at the end.
