What are the most effective sword and mace weapon types in terms of damage, special moves, and so fourth? Both PvM and PvP.

Interesting subject. I would like to hear others input as well.

PvP Swords - much is determined by the template and set up.

two handed - I would choose the ornate and executioners axe.
one handed - Cleaver, bokuto

PvP Macing - Well I like the mace, diamond mace, war axe and hammer pick.

Agreed. I find this to be an interesting subject as well. The thing is though I find it to be very subjective really. There is no best. PvM the base weapons lose some of their luster versus others once you have achieved certain SSI speeds as well as your stamina and/or strength all determines damage speed. You would have to use the calculator to test out your favorites.

PvM believe it or not on a dexxer I like using kryss. As long as you have a slayer kryss and with my setup...I can quickly AI succubus or other hard mobs. It is really...not EVEN a contest.

PvP is the same before everyone using pots and cheats. I could just poison someone and then quickly AI them to death. Cheap deaths perhaps, but makes no matter to me. A kill is a kill.

Other weapons PvP: Sometimes overlooked...bone harvester, skinning knife, butcher knife.

Present day PvP is probably no-dachi. Other than that, yumi.

In my book there is no most effective. Mainly you have to decide what style you want to use to assassinate people. Next you choose several different weapons to carry out your trade.

For swords and mace PvM, you want to look for either high DPS (damage per second), heavy hits or good specials.

So the best swords for PvM are (IMO) the katana (armor ignore), the radiant scimitar (whirlwind) and the ornate axe (hits like a truck). The rune blade is a rather nice weapon to have too.

The best mace for PvM is the diamond mace. You could also do well with a war hammer (whirlwind) or hammer pick (armor ignore).

Having mana leech is a requirement if you use specials in PvM.

A side note: for high end battles, tessen and bokuto are very useful for the feint special and having a warrior-as-tank.

For PvP, I don't believe there is any one weapon that is best. Rather, use of a variety of weapons is nice (I like my executioner's axe, katana combination). Use of just one weapon tends to lead to predictability and other people learn to counter your tactics more easily.

Agreed with most said, there is no "Best" weapon. As farsight said its about combinations.

My prefered is either a battle axe/katana/cleave/butchers.

Or, Bokuto/no-dachi/broadsword/executioners.

They all have different specials which are effective in certain situations.

For example, The executioners axe...Mortal and bleed = Mages worst nightmare!

Battle Axe(might be normal sxe), bleed and disarm, good against those Bush healing dexers.

Bokuto/nodachi(they work hand in hand), Nerve strike/dismount(against pesky Speedy archers)

All in all i still havent found my favourite combo of weaps...i have found my fave weap but cant find its best counterpart yet, i switch depending on situation.

The idea for PvP is to get the broadest range of special moves that you can within 4 weapons (max UOAssist "arm" slots). You want a bleed, armor ignore, concussion, mortal, paralyze, dismount, disarm, and perhaps crushing blow. Each player has a weakness. I always start out with a standard offense that i use for everyone, and then adapt the offense based on what my opponent does. It's important to maximize the special moves available to you.

And because I can't resist opportunities to correct people:

Battle Axe(might be normal sxe), bleed and disarm, good against those Bush healing dexers.
Battle Axe specs are Bleed/Concussion.

Hatchet is Disarm/AI.

PvM swords, you're gonna want to go with an ornate axe and a radiant scimitar.

PvM macing, a good diamond mace is your best option.

I guess most people don't like PvM'ing with fencing. A bit understandable, since they're fast but not as hard hitting of weapons.

Personally, I always liked a good kryss slayer weapon. Just AI the mob with a couple hits and...dead.

I would try fencing, but I've never really found a good weapon for it.

That and he didn't ask about fencing, only swords and mace <_<

Really? I would absolutely love to find a sampire Leafblade on Pac. Between Feint and an armored dragon, you're talking about a 70% damage reduction, and Armor Ignore is also very useful.

True I know Ender. I was just making a personal opinion comment. Yes Ultima I agree with you. I have an awesome leafblade. It's for PvP though, not PvM...let alone sampire build.
