Devs: Client Improvement(?) Suggestion

Hi,

Would you please consider naming character config files/folders after character ID instead of character name for SA?

I usually have my macros set up in a similar fashion for my mages and warriors (F1 for Recall/Sacred Journey, F2 for Heal/Close Wound, F3 for Cure/Cleanse By Fire etc), but whenever I have a mage and a warrior of the same name on the same shard I always end up having to memorise a new system (and fumbling on the keys a few times before going OooOooo oOo Oo) because there's only one config file for the both/all of them and everything overlaps. Right now my workaround for it is to manually swap two config files before loading the game but that really is a nuisance.

Cheers.

P.S. before you guys get to it... no I refuse to get a name change token.

Why do you name your characters the same to begin with? Just curious.

Actually, good question because I really don't know the answer for that haha.
I guess when I first started I was still new to the internet and online game and I used to name all my char the same lol.

It used to be fine before AoS, before all the pally spells and stuff. Now I just run out of room for macros.

I think this is the only online game that allows the same spelling of a name to be used multiple times. Certainly allows for much confusion.

I second the OP's suggestion :D

After the AOS clothing thing during p16 where the clothing will carry your char name, I deliberately created multiple chars with the same name as much as possible. That way I can have a whole set of AOS clothing with the same name. Oh, I try to maintain them at "Lord" fame levels too.

Another fun thing to see is that on 1 day, people will see me as a tamer, on another day people will see me as a mage, and a third day, I'd be a warrior.

My crafters have the same names too. So I can set my maker's mark on every single type of craftable. The actual skills are divided between 2 different characters :D

you wanna get even more into this, try haveing 21 developed toons on all norther american shards.... all with the same names.

ya, it gets a little hard to get macros done up, plus with the uo files wanting to constantlly make my mage wanna do my warrors bushy spells.... ugghhh

with uo assist you can choose to save your files as a number for each individual toon instead of name.
which is cool.
down side to this is if you want to copy your set up and macros over to another toon on another shard its immpossible to find the file (pretty much)

I have some characters with the same name from way back in '97 and '98 when these issues weren't known. At that time of course there was only one rule set, not Trammel and Felucca. It was fun to have two characters with the same name, one a weak miner out digging for ore and a second a fully developed archer or mage. PK's would get into a routine of when and where they would search for "playmates." Sometimes their easy targets weren't so easy.

Hmmm good point with naming files/folders after only the char ID.
I'm revising my suggestion a bit... how about naming them after BOTH, in a "name ID (Player 1234567)" format? I know it probably won't make too much of a difference but at least you won't just be looking at a bunch of numbers when trying to find something.

This idea makes sense.

Personally, I'm glad that UO has retained the NON-unique name system. I think it's a LOT more user friendly than trying to find some kind of alternate spelling or symbology to "create" the name you wanted to begin with. Besides, it's not like names are exactly unique in either the real world or any given fictional world in the first place.

Names as spelled should simply be display for the players and the rest should be handled behind the scenes via the character number.

I agree..... I have multiple characters with the same name as well..... especially if I want a certain name on a house... Or I have 2 characters that RP wise are the same guy just from different shards... and raised different so they each have separate skill sets... and I have problems with mine too.

Different accounts do different things... and quite a few of them are bod-runners so they just log in sequence...

When you play this way, you learn the character slots...

Character #1 - Orc
Character #2 - Craftsman Tazar
Character #3 - Sampire Tazar
Character #4 - Mage Tazar
Character #5 - Tamer Tazar

etc...
