Exactly what advantages does a 125 Magery superdragon have over a 105 one?

I've been trying to sort out which advantages there would be, and have been asking around. There's outdated information out there and that doesn't help.

I am being told by one person that your chance to succeed with the poison spell against someone else's magic resist is based upon the caster's magery? (this would apply to superdragons if it's true).

Anyone got good info on how the Magery level of a superdragon would theoretically impact its performance?

Yes, you found it!!!!! I saw this and it was confusing and conflicting. In the first URL, it says:

-------------------
Question - Does resisting a spell compare my resistance to my attackers magery and evaluate intelligence skill?
Answer - No, it does not. Resisting a spell only compares your resistance with your attackers magery, and the circle of the spell being cast.
-------------------

But, I got other places where it says that it IS the eval, not the magery, that does the trick. Plus, I have the experience of having deliberately run a mage with no eval and I got to see the effects over a prolonged period.

On my mage with no eval: his fields effects are extremely easy to resist, both poison and para. His dispel is useless but his mass dispel works great. His bless is also useless. His dispel field is fine.

I guess I could test all of this stuff myself but, you'd think there would be good info somewhere.

When it casts Greater Heal on itself, it will also heal more, with the higher Magery...

magery gives the drag a better chance at poisoning and makes his heals heal for more. that's about it. bless, curse, weaken, etc are all affected by eval. paralyze is affected by eval. not sure about mana drain and mana vamp. that covers all the resistible magery spells.

yepyepyep mana drain and mana vamp were 2 big questions in my mind. Testing now!

You're the second person who's said that poisoning chances utilize Magery.

If that stratics page is out of date, please take that bad information down!

My no-eval mage has 90.1 magery. The target has 110 magic resist.

Testing Mana Vampire with 50 tries:

Here's exactly what it looked like:

cast 1: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 2: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 3: resisted
cast 4: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 5: resisted
cast 6: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 7: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 8: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 9: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 10: resisted
cast 11: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 12: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 13: resisted
cast 14: resisted
cast 15: resisted
cast 16: resisted
cast 17: resisted
cast 18: resisted
cast 19: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 20: resisted
cast 21: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 22: resisted
cast 23: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 24: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.

cast 48: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 49: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 50: resisted

This is 31 times it was not resisted, and 19 resists. Clearly the magery is punching through the resist.

Mana Drain (it's only 4th circle):

cast 1: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 2: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 3: resisted
cast 4: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 5: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.

cast 47: resisted
cast 48: resisted
cast 49: Not resisted, but took no mana from the target.
cast 50: resisted

It was only not resisted 16 times out of 50. The spell circle being lower is making a serious difference, it's simply easier to resist.

The magery's clearly the involved skill with the resist chance, not eval. It's basing the resist chances upon the magery level of the caster + the spell circle as compared with the magic resist of the target.

Paralyze works differently, the guy is never resisting straight up. The lack of eval makes the spell do absolutely nothing when cast by this no-eval mage.

Poison looked like this: (only third circle spell)
cast 1: resisted
cast 2: not resisted
cast 3 - 12: resisted
cast 13: not resisted
cast 14 - 17: resisted
cast 18: not resisted
cast 19 - 26: resisted
cast 27: not resisted
cast 28: not resisted
cast 29: not resisted
cast 30: not resisted
cast 31: not resisted
cast 32 - 33: resisted
cast 34: not resisted
cast 35 - 37: resisted
cast 38: not resisted
cast 39: resisted
cast 40: not resisted
cast 41 - 44: resisted
cast 45: not resisted
cast 46 - 50: resisted

I think the spell circle is once again factoring heavily. Out of 50 tries, 13 made it through. Looks like the same system to me.

Something strange is going on with curse. At 0 eval, he cannot cast it on the 110 resist target and have it look right. He keeps making the fizzling sound, but you don't see the fizzle message or see the puff of smoke thingie thats associated with a normal fizzle. This failed-like cast doesn't cause him to turn aggro to the target, and no the target isn't already cursed (unless you count being red as a curse). He was able to cast it on himself, though, and get a stat change (he has 0 resist of his own).

K, I guess I answered some of these questions for us... heh. It seems to me that high magery in a dragon would be significant in the performance of a selection of spells where the target carries resist.
