Returning to UO...

It's been a little over five years since I have played, and have decided to return to UO. Unfortunately my old computer is dead, my original disks are missing, and I can't seem to find any version of UO on store shelves. So I'm trying to determine what to do....

From what I understand I should download the current game client, and then buy a new account with Mondain Legacy's content or...?

:wall: Being able to buy the game at the store is sooooo much easier.

Any advice is appreciated.:D

You can download either client from the uo.com website and play right away.

You do have a choice though...

Unless you sold it, your old account is still there. If you do not know the passwords, but know the old e-mail address associated with the account, the credit card number used for billing, and other personal information, it is possible to reclaim the account. While the equipment will be outdated, and any house long gone, you will have a nice boost in skills, and maybe a few old time rares tucked away in a bank or backpack.

You can also get a trial account through the uo.com website as well if you want to start fresh.

Mondain's Legacy upgrade: (ML upgrade and new account)

I wish they would change "ML upgrade and new account" to just "ML upgrade" to reduce confusion with the buttons on the left.

For this, you need an account:

Either a new one or your old one, depending on which you'd rather have. You also need current billing info and the client.

It's nice to have a big bold "Get UO" icon on the uo home page ... but step 2 of the instructions really need to be kept up to date - that link is useless to a genuine new player unless they magically decipher the gauntlet of clicks to get a new account code without already having an existing account.

I'm going to try and find my old account info, but due to a lot of semi-gnarly RL issues ( that happened just before I stopped playing ) I doubt that's going to happen.

I'm mainly concerned about content. I want to be able to access all the "land masses", quests, etc. So I'm mainly trying to determine what I need to buy/download to get all the content. This is what is mainly confusing me. I want the seven character slots so that's why I thought I would have to buy the Mondain Legacy's account code? Same for the Samuri Empire...

I guess I'll eventually get it figured out.:dunce:

I am excited about playing! Once I get the new phone lines hooked up, and my new computer, I will be ready to rock and roll!:party:

Yes it's confusing...

I doubt I will be able to find the info for my old account. I wish I could, but it will be minor miracle if I can find anything at all.

It will be a week or two until I can get all my ducks in a row, and start playing. Hhhmmm... does UO have ducks?

Welcome back!

For new players (determined by a credit card they haven't seen before), you can use the trial code to create an account. This will give you access to everything up to Samurai Empires, if I'm not mistaken.

Then you can upgrade that account with ML content. There is a 9th anniversary edition out there which you can still find in online shopping. This has all the ML content, plus the bonus of two additional housing tiles (crystal and shadow). So just for the sake of being complete, that is the top of the line upgrade. Also, SA is coming out this summer and so what you could do is wait for that upgrade code and just play the trial account in the meanwhile.

There is a KR client as well, but that will be replaced by the SA client which we're all hoping to get into beta for right now. :D

I nearly broke down to write an email to EA to ask for help when I started up again. :coco:

Thanks sablestorm! I was fairly certain that was the case, I just wanted to be certain. I can hardly wait to get my new computer and start playing!

Thanks to all who replied! I think I've got it all worked out, and hopefully the Gamestop website isn't lying to me, and the local store does have the UO 9th Anniversary in stock.

I had some of my old disks when I returned to the game. But I did happen to find a 9th anny box at Gamestop for $20. Good deal considering you get upgraded to ML plus the crytsal and shadow house items and you get a personal attendant. Don't know if you live near any or not. But you can goto Gamestop.com and check the game and it will even tell you what Gamestops are near you and if they have it in stock or not.

Good question. I mainly played on Great Lakes. My main character was named Gothar. ( There was at least one other Gothar on Great Lakes... ) I started playing before the Lake Austin shard was created.

I'm going to check and see which shard has the best connection for me. I will probably make Lake Austin my main shard. I also plan on creating a character on SP. I'll also have characters on other shards of course for x-shard trading of gifts.

Yup! :thumbsup: I already checked online, and the one near me is supposed to have it in stock, and I plan on getting it ASAP! $20!!

Be sure to call ahead. You will probably have to tell them what UO is...
