BoD question.

In my attempt to get a stockpile of prospectors tools, I decided to take upon the tasks of doing BoDs. The first was I got was a large one. Aside from buying the small ones to fill it, how does one get them with the long wait timer? I do not have the funds to purchase from players.

Put 10 or so skill on an off character, that character can get 1 per hour, generally low end deeds. You can then work up a small supply of them, then fill them all and turn them in with your high end smith character.

Say you work your way up to 50 deeds...

You can turn in a BOD, then get a new BOD, then turn in the next BOD, get a new one and so on until you've turned in 50 deeds and gotten 50 new ones (as well as pulling new ones on your alt character).

For filling the deeds, normal quality items can be filled with items bought from NPCs or from monster loot. For Exceptional deeds, grab all of the metal loot you can and resmelt to provide the ingots for those.

You'll want a mule or two for running to get started, but once you have a decent amount, the need to continue getting new deeds drops considerably as you can get a new deed when you turn a filled one in.

I'll remember that for the iron ingots. This one is for Shadow. I have a free character slot. Will just make it for BoDs and whatever else I run across.

Well if i am not wrong on this....for every one you turn in you can get another..(starts over the timer). So do them just turn them in to get another till you get what you need...since you got a large one sometimes people drop what they don't want on hte floors of black smith shops...

I thought of that. Looks like no one is currently collecting BoDs.

Patience is a virtue, grasshopper :)

There are a couple of ways to go about getting additional BODs;

Apply .1 in Blacksmithing to a secondary character, and have them collect a BOD once per hour (and hand them over to you)

Take those scrap BODs and fill them, then turn them in yourself. Every time that you turn in any filled BOD (helmets, weapons, shields, any filled BOD whatsoever), you are eligible to collect another immediately, thereby bypassing the timer.

Obtain a BOD book, and place your Large BOD in it. It will be awhile before you accrue the small ones to fill it. In the meantime, tell us what shard you play on...as many of us would be happy to donate our excess BODs to your cause. :)

I play on GL. Making a new character now with just a bit of Smithing.

Now just give him runes to a blacksmith shop and home and just do a run occasionally (and always one when you first log in) and build up a supply. Even after you stop working up the initial supply, make it a routine to grab one with that character occasionally to keep building the supply beyond the initial batch (since once you start swapping the BODs, you'll get a bigger mix of ones that combine, ones you won't want to do, etc that will lower your initial batch accordingly.

Tower Of Roses has a great BOD reward chart that will help your decision when you pull BODs and help refine what rewards you want to target as well.

every time you turn a BOD in, you can immediately claim a new one. Trick I used to use on a younger smith ...

1. do a bunch of BODs that I knew I was going to turn in (triplicates, no matches to large, etc)
2. at Smithy, get a BOD from the NPC before turning in anything
3. now turn in every one I can and get a new one every turn-in until loaded up

... run to bank or house to drop off the new BODs, tools, etc ... go back and start at #2 if I needed to drop more. This essentially got me n+1 BODs and then I could sort thru for ones I needed for larges and so forth.

as my smith got better, I would be more selective in what I accepted ... like only thos that gave POF or a hammer.

If your wanting prospector tools just go to Luna and see if someone is turning in BODs and ask them if you can have the tools. I normally throw the picks and shovels on the floor for people and give the tools and gargoyle pickaxes back to the smith, but if someone asked me for them I would be more than happy to give it to them. Maybe give them a bag so that they can bag them up for you.

What shard are you on? I have some to spare on chesapeake, and I'm sure there are others around who might be able to share the bounty of massive numbers of prospector's tools (and sturdy shovels) they accumulate when cycling bods.

I might even be willing to set up a couple of bod runners for you on that shard to get you a few to get you started cycling, if it's not Chesapeake.

I do not have the funds to purchase from players.
If you do some shopping around, checking all of the runes that players drop at the various banks, you can come across Smith Bods for as low as 100gp each. At that price you can buy a couple of hundred for pocket change and be well on your way to building a good sized Bod collection of your own.

Thanks for the replies. Getting the BODs wont be a problem. I can get eight an hour across five acounts. Added Smith and Tailor to ten on the crafting characters.

Connor, when I said I didn't have the funds, I meant it. All the gold made ingame over the years went to the GF and her house decorating. Getting eight an hour should build me up a large pile of BODs fast. Actually sixteen an hour since I am collecting the Tailoring ones too.

Dragonchilde, I play on GL but thanks for the offer. No need to make characters there since I can get enough an hour.

You don't need 10 tailor/smith to get bods - just .1 skill will do. Every hour get another bod.

This is a quick way to make cash on a new shard. Make dummy characters, collect bods, sell these bods in a book 100 at a time for 35k-50k or so easy at the bank.

Do note that one has to be a 70 smith to get the exceptional BODs that give the PTs.

The .1 BOD runner is mainly to get the BOD stash up, then the GM+ smith turns them in for better pulls (including the ones for the PTs)

My Smith is in the 70s. I put 10 Smith and Tailor on the other crafters since capping their points isn't important.

With .1 tailoring, your bod collectors will always get either bandana or skullcap bods. These can be filled by your tailor (only 2 cloth each) and then turned in for much better bods. You will always come out ahead on the cloth and can stockpile it for more serious projects. Smith bods, at .1, are always shields, and unless they are 10 tear drop, are not generally worth filling. But if you have the time and energy, they can also be upgraded to far better bods. One thing I do with normal iron bods, is to fill them from loot that my warriors pick up (stuff that isn't worth hauling home or even selling). It takes a little time to do this, but is a good way to start upgrading the bods without any cash outlay.

Moss, I prefer not to kill mobs. If I could, I would just craft and do nothing else. Sadly, I can't though. With an item based game, it's all about the best items. To get the best items, you either have to kill for them, or kill to get the high end resources to make them. You can also buy them, but the cost is ridiculous. It's never been about the money for me. Maybe after I get my combat characters suited up, I will start particpating in high end spawns. Until then, you will find me mining or chopping trees.

I will hold out for Imbuing. In the meantime, I will do BODs and get hammers. I am already 2 BODs away from filling a large Shadow.

BTW, anyone need any sturdy shovels. I have 200 of them now. I have the containers set to anyone.

Dermott, I picked up my first PT last night. I recalled to cove and guess what happened. I use a shovel and valorite drops into my pack. Didn't even need the PT. Got 20 pieces too. The spot has been good to me since then.

May I ask which shadow large bod are you trying to fill? I may be able to help you with that.
