Monster Speech

You know that passive noise monsters make? Yes you the stealther or you the silly guy in the orc kin mask.
Are these sounds speech corrupted into something else?

I was looking for the bamboo stool location in the Ophidian Mansion and it sounded like they were saying " This is my house".

I also wander through the orc caves a lot.,( my cousin Raghat lives there) and they seem to be saying " Visit the moon". So is monster speech a pisstake or a random series of sounds that is freaking me out?

Yeah, I want to know what Jesooza means in Lizard Man Speak. And I agree with you on the Ophidian speech. I always thought that's what it sounded like they were saying.

It is my speculation that, as the sound bites were done by actual people more than likely, they probably made the best hissing sounds they could, same with the Orcs. I know I believe I do a spot on Gargish accent by yelling

"Dabbu-Dabbu-Dabudadabbu"

Into vent. I do know there was such a time when Wisps would speak more openly in text, and the Orc, Ophdians, Gargish, and presumably everything else has a language or sound pattern. Like the Orc/Ratmen naming patterns?

You get to learn Lizardman in Ultima Underworld. I've probably forgotten enough of it to tell if the UO lizards speak the same language.

Bomb Bloke I want you to do something for me. Walk into Orc Caves wearing a kin mask. Are they saying "Visit the moon"?

Stealth into the Ophidian Mansion. Are they saying "This is my house".

Please someone do this as my sanity is waning.

I've always thought that gargs say something like:
"<mumble> <mumble> I'm gonna get you"

I just stealthed into the orc cave and it does sound like they say "come visit the moon"

It does indeed sound like "come visit the moon". But it isn't. That's just the closest match you'll get in "real english", so your brain automatically tells you that's what they're saying.

(It's sorta like how when you listen to an indian telemarketer. You know how sometimes you can actually understand them? It's the same sort of thing; your brain takes what they're saying, and supplies you with the closest "real" word).

I agree with you. But I also totally disagree with you.

I think someone somewhere spoke "Come visit the moon" and "This is my house" into a microphone and then it was mangled a bit and used as the sounds we hear today.

And this is when I yell "LINGUISTIC SKILL!"
Wouldn't that be something fun to have?
No more weird sound bites but text that might tell you what they're really saying or something.

Titans just say "A-ya-ya-ya"
Of course they do. They're wearing togas. They're all ready to party. Why else do you think they carry roasted pigs on a silver platter around with them? They're always up for a good luau with mai tai's.

No, but it's an interesting house and thankfully the Ophidians don't passively reveal. Must be about fifty of them in there.
Out of all creatures these SHOULD be able to find you. Most venomous snakes have pits that allow them to detect heat.. BUT if your char were in vampire form this would not be an issue due to undead being cold of course.

I was wondering the other day about the sounds yet again.. Here is a bit of trivia on the subject.. What is the sound they used for the kappa? I know and was FREAKED out by my discovery.. Mostly because I had never heard it before I heard it and INSTANTLY said "Hey! Wait a min! I know that sound.."

OMG, it makes so much sense now.
It's just their theme song lyrics cut-off.
"Louie Louie...we gotta go now" <snip point> "Ya ya ya ya"

I always enjoyed the Gargoyle speech... I have NO idea what they are saying and it doesn't sound like anything really to me... but I like to hear it.

It always sounds like, to me, they say like "Sacrifice" at the end of their sentence.

The golem war noise is the same as a reaper or a forest sound or something. The sound that was originally used to denote birdsong is now used to denote a machine that's what i'm trying to say.

When I started in UO i kept a note of the things orcs said in an attempt to learn their language. Oh dear.

Did you ever read "A Grammar of Orcish" in the books you can buy from a provisioner? It might help :lie:

Always thought Lizardmen said "Sasustha!". Which is generally what i name my Argonian char's in Oblivion because of it (TES V is scheduled for release in 2010). Also what i named my Iksar char when EQ 1 first came out. Dropped that in a few months.

Personally, even in the midst of being ganked (chased), or chasing a target to finish them off, I'll stop to kill gorillas, just to hear them scream. Sadistic, I know. I can't help myself though, I just love hearing them scream.

You know that's kinda funny..... I've always gone out of my way to kill Dire Wolves after getting ganked by 3 of them once when I was rather new to the game... I still get my revenge upon their kind every time I see one.

Gathering regs in Reg Fields back in the day eh? Reg Fields always had Dire Wolves, Ettins, Ogres and Trolls in them.

You know until my recent trip down to the Orcs in the Brit sewers I never really paid much attention..... but after spending about an hour down there they sure do sound like they are telling me to "Go visit da Moon".... what for I don't know.... but they certainly sound like that is what they are saying.... creepy almost.

Speaking of monster speech, does anyone else get creeped out when they hear the Yomotsu do their Michael Jackson impersonations?
