Arcane Circle Group

Good Day Everyone,

I am posting to inquire about the interest in starting an Arcane Circle Group. I know it can be hard for some of us to find people to do this with. If we started a little group where we could post when we need it and a few show up if available.

I am available a good bit during the day. I work but can get a character to an arcane circle to help someone out. During the evenings I can often take a few minutes to help someone out too.

If we had enough in the group then I think it is possible to almost always help someone out when needed. We could do it at the new West Brit Bank and that would attract more attention to this location.

What does everyone think?

I don't really play UO much anymore but I'm going to do a little test. It was something I originally planned to do with my vendor house but never got around to it.


Leaving a character logged in on the star 24/7 and time how long in between it takes before other players show up to refresh it. If 1 person shows up every 15 min I might be able to do it more often.

The other day I left a character on the circle in front of WBB for about half an hour while I was doing something else (forgot to log out... oops).

When I came back, I had a shiny new max-level focus.

UO has GM's now? I'll make a note to report myself for being afk, however that is not against the rules so I guess the only people who would get banned are the ones who abuse the page a gm feature.

I am pretty sure #&@% a $&#& poor troll... excuse my language I am not use to the G rated UO forms...

If anyone wants a focus WB is the place to go, the more traffic it gets the more often everyone will get higher focus levels.

Impressive WB had roughly in the range of 30-50 visitors over the course of 1 day and out of that about 6 arcane focuses. with 4 or more people.

I would say that this has been a minor success. Expect an extra charge between 1:00pm EST till server down over the course of this week.

Kudos to the other person who dedicated hours to this kind of project.

Being afk by itself is not bannable, it's doing something to keep your self logged in while afk that's bannable. Normally if you're not doing some action to keep yourself "refreshed" your character will time out. If you're afk in a rural area and not doing anything for long enough you will time out.

For example, let's say you create a macro to open your backpack up every 3 minutes, and you loop this somehow to play over and over again while you're afk. You're not doing anything to harm anyone, or work a skill, but by running that macro unattended you're in risk of being actioned.

At least thats how I've understood what I've read. Of course there are plenty of times I've heard people claim to be just sitting afk with no macro's running and getting banned, but I am always doubtful when I hear that.

Not necessarily, i have a stealther that times out every 20 minutes if I don't do something refresh them, like move an item in their pack etc. This is in populated areas with people coming and going, your character has to do something that pings the server and lets it know you are active. There are exceptions, I've gotten long distance phone calls and come back after an hour and was still logged in, but I can set a watch to the 20 min. idle warning most of the time.

Obviously this is a complete fabrication from the truth. If you where afk for 20 minutes then you wouldn't have been present for the idle message at the 15 minute timer and therefore have no way of proving that somone passed your screen other then jounal records.

Also the refresh is activated on power words used by magic spells as a sort of precaution so no one times out while being attacked.

If you didn't factor power words that is understandable, however if your implying that I am lying and some how using a third party program to maintain a prescience in game unattended then you had better bring a lot more evidence and be prepared to deal with all others that you may upset who may benefit from a precocious arrangement.

It's my understanding that if you run with "show all names"....then you will refresh whenever anyone enters screen. I run this way myself and have accidentally been able to bank sit for half the day before noticing i'm still logged in. Therefore, i see circle sitting as being very possible. However, I also would not be surprised if the UO gods deem this to be an illegal action in the near future seeing as how this makes life too easy for you arcanists. *hopes this doesn't jinx ya'll*
