I get called a speedhacker pretty much every day because I seem to run so fast in game. Needless to say I don't use a speedhack. Then there's these fellows who run 2-3 times faster than me.

It's getting pretty damn ridiculous. These said persons are one screen behind you and the next second they're right next to you. Once they're about to die they just warp out from your screen to two or three screens ahead of you. It's ****ing ********.

I'm having a hard time choosing between two things: to download and use a speedhack or to just freeze my account until they start to read the legitimate reports and start banning people.

I'm probably gonna go with the latter option, though.

EDIT: Could some DEV please enlighten this situation? Are you even planning to do anything to prevent cheating?

They could AT LEAST start handing out WARNINGS to speedhackers. After one warning -> permaban.

The DEVs should hook up the best computer money can buy directly to the server running it in LAN. Then make a program which counts the amount of steps you can take in 1 second while running. Then make an adjustment to the client which throttles the running speed of a player if the player exceeds the amount of steps which is possible to take in 1 second.

Another option is to give us a thumbs-up to use speedhacks so that everyone is running at the same speed creating the same situation if no one was running a speedhack.

There are a lot of people who do speedhack, especially in PvP, but keep this in mind, people who are hardcore into gaming and PvPing spend thousands of dollars on uber l33r computers, and all the accessories and have no need for a client modification that MAY make you faster. Really, if you are going to complain about people speed hacking you might as well complain about people who have dumped a ton of money into their gaming systems, are they cheating because they choose to spend their money which they work for on a game? I don't think so. There are lots of little tricks that you can do to make your system run better and hardcore pvpers know them and use them.

Faster is better but honestly there are a lot worse cheats in Fel atm. I would much rather fight someone who was speed hacking than fight someone who had stump hacks, tile hacks and mods that allow them to run through para fields.

I can't escape and live unless I'm on my parry mage to tele or a stealther to smoke bomb.

To all the people who get falsely accused of speedhacking,

I know some people who have been falsely accused of speed hacking. I have been on a few occasions...very few...like 2. When they do it most of the time it seems like sour grapes. However, that's not what this thread is about. It's not about being falsely accused. It's about people who actually do speedhack. If UO starts doing something and banning or warning these people, then speedhacking (and other hacking) will be greatly reduced. This means, not only fair play, but also people will stop accusing you of speed hacking. If they don't stop, you can complain to UO about verbal harrassment and those whiners will be the ones in trouble. For those of you with good systems and connections (like me), stopping hackers will give us more of an advantage since the hackers won't be cheating us. Overall, while no one likes to be falsely accused, I think we can all (except for those f*&$ing A%#hole Qu&@*#^@*er (yes...I made up a new swear for these people) agree that hacking should be enforced by UO and a movement needs to be started toward that end.

Also now you have people that modify their client to change pretty much every animation to what they want for faster play, how do u suppose that will be stopped? Its on the player's end. They choose the TREE graffic to a stump. Or To a PINK (fairies!!!!!) tile... or to a pumpkin. Or whatever.. It doesnt change the fact that ITS THERE!. They can still NOT RUN THROUGH IT. It just makes it easier for the morons to run around the clutter and their crappy computers dont lag over.

In my opinion if you cant figure out how to run around a 2 Inch tree, and need to change it to a 2 cm tile... JUST QUIT. ok?

It definitely provides an advantage. There is no foliage blocking their sight to other objects that may block them.

Not only that, but the tool people use to do this also provides an option to make certain objects "passable". This includes Gravestones, Candelabras, wooden boxes, hay stacks, soulstones, crates, etc, etc.

The biggest advantage to field PvP is the grave stones. I can be chasing a speeder down, and have them within 1 hit of death but they run to the right of a tree and they go through the grave stone where I get blocked, giving them a 3 tile advantage at the least.

I think me and about 6 other people saw a speedhacker who was dragging an orc brute about twice as fast as anyone of us where running, we know the red that does this and usually we can outrun him, he killed all of us and ghost where all running about "report him for speedhacking". Its funny because he was from com so if they had more people from the guild on they wouldnt have to speedhack anyway just come and raid at the champ, like they always do, kill everyone and steal everything.

Why is this any different that speed hacking on horseback or speed hacking ninja? they won't be any faster than any other mounted player, and they have a delay before they can take flight, I believe it should be equal to the ethy timer.


Alezi, making the speed hacks legal wont solve the problem, making ALL speed hacking might "fix" the problem, if everyone used it of course. but just adding an approved speed hack wouldn't work as people can still go faster than that.

I mean put together a business case to justify the work involved in person-hours and how it benefits subscriptions?

Fix client side jiggery-pokery and most players are pleased to hear so but don't care much either way. A small hardcore who have a bunch of accounts to run various automated processes move (and find a way to cheat) somewhere else in another game or get a job/go outside etc.

Speedhack is real.

Under normal circumstances, you can only move so fast. As in any other game, your movement rate is at a set pace.

And.. considering I see people talking about which ones to use openly on my server, then certain people coming back the next day in awe of how fast someone is now, as opposed to before.. well.. blah blah blah..
