I havent played in many years, when I played the fastest swinging weapons were Katanas and Kryss

With all the new items, weapons etc what is currently the fastest swinging weapons for dexers?

I believe the fastest weapons in the game and was back then are a dagger and short spear. But I could be wrong.

Katanas, kryss and war axes were the best 1 handed dps weapons back then.

Fastest weap now I think is the soulseeker, 2.5 second weapon with 60 ssi.

Its base weapon type is a radiant scimitar. 2.5 second per swing, very good dps weapon for swords (there's 1 better sword that I can't recall offhand, but radiant scimitars have whirlwind which is great for pvm).

Under the old speed system the short spears speed is 55, the dagger is 56, a katana is 46, same as the radiant scimtar thing, the kryss and bokuto are the same at 53. New speeds would be dagger and short spear I believe are at 2 seconds, and katana radiant scimtar are 2.5, a kryss or bokuto is 2.25. The soulseeker with the 60 swing speed is fast, but its specials are lacking for somethings.

Remember to check your stamina for swing speed not your dex. The fastest you can swing a weapon is 1.25 seconds, a weapon with a base speed of 3 and has 35% swing speed increase you would need 120 to 149 stamina to reach max speed. The higher the better because as you lose stamina your swing speed slows down. There were some charts that came out with um Pub 40 that had all different weapons and what speed you would swing at with how high your stamina was. Hope it helps maybe someone can find those charts here.

There is no fastest weapon anymore. There are many weapons which can have their speed boosted through a combination of Dexterity and Swing Speed Increase to achieve the 1.25 second swing speed cap.

From the formula, stamina based swing speed increases work in 30 points increments, so 149 stamina swings as fast as 120 stamina. Need to hit 150 stamina to get to the next break.

It also means that if you can't make that break, you might potentially have 29 points of stats you can move into str or int. Enjoy!

If you dont mind the specials find the weapon (1 hand or 2 hander) with highest base damage with ssi and according to your stam still swing at 1.25 swing/sec that will be the highest DPS.

I personally like composite bow even tho I can only get it to swing at 1.5 sec, but oh man composites are lovely in PvP.

No this list is not moot, if you look at the one handed selection, most these are the commonly used weapons in pvp.

If you use a kryss or bokuto with 30 ssi (and you dont use healing) you can drop your dex super low giving you more hp and more mana.

Those that do use healing will use some of the slightly slower weapons because they will still reach swing cap and their damage output will be be that much greater as we all know the slower a weapon generally the more damage it does.

So you got your kryss, bokuto, daggers, I think cleavers even fall into this, for non healers.

And when you have healing and are running 125 dex anyway, you run the slightly slower better damaging weapons, the leaf blade, warfork, scimatar, clubs

Asking which is the fastest weapon is NOT the same as asking which is the BEST weapon to use. That's like asking which is a better car, a Hummer or a Toyota Prius - each is better at something different. The BEST weapon is one that will let you swing at or near the 1.25 second limit, gives good damage, and has other properties that are important.

For PVM Sampire, those properties would be lots of damage, HML and HSL, and usually SSI to get to the max speed. My archer likes damage, HML and HLD. And PVP'ers want something completely different, hit spell, hit lower attack and defense among them.

This isn't a completely useless peice of information considering the Winds Edge does come in very handy for fighting certain Peerless bosses that sap your stamina and swing speed

Obviously correct. But the OP wasn't asking what the best weapon was. The request queried for the fastest weapon. We can get into huge debates about the best weapon, but the fastest weapons are straight forward.

While that is true (and I am not trying to start a debate), just pointing out to the Op who said he hasn't played in several years, that other things need to be considered that weren't even available when he quit.

As others will point, the fastest weapon depends on your stamina. At max stamina, there are many "fastest" weapons to choose from. You can only reach a minimum of 1.25 seconds per swing, so even the berserkers maul that swings at 75% SSI (like the Winds Edge at 50% SSI) won't go faster than 1.25 seconds per swing.

In 1997 the fastest weapons were as follows:
Butcher knife and Skinning Knife = 80 speed
Cleaver and Shepherds Crook = 70 sp
Club and Smithy Hammer = 60 sp
