Ultima Online Stratics is Again Pleased to Announce:

Our continuing update project brings you this week new and updated information on Blacksmithing & Mining, Community Collections, being a Rune Librarian and Resizing your House, in addition to re-worked menu listings in both left and right side bars.

We thank Basara and Lady Aalia for their hard work! Readers, posters and lurkers are cordially invited to grab 'a piece of the action' by submitting information to [email protected]. We're still missing some 'mug shots' for the Replicas listing and most of the 'professions' guides need work.

Next week's pages are expected to include a re-work of 'The Bard' .

Actually I just checked it all out and I think its great stuff you all are doing a great job on something that should have been done a while back ..

I would like to make one suggestion though could we make sure that there is a note at the bottom of ALL pages telling when it was updated last and by who some pages seem to have this and others do not!

We've started dating them, but I've got to find time to go back and date the earlier ones, I'll have to date them by when we got them live though, some of the pieces were completed several months ago. Dates may be at the top too.

Excellent. Like Storm, I always check the dates to see how out of date the info is. Can you have a default spot for the dates future pages? Not asking you to go back to revise everything.

Very nice job on the pages! It's great to see Stratics info getting some love!

Some suggestions.

You need an index. Web reading is different then book reading. The average reader only scans and can only effectively scan between 7-9 things at a time.

Is there any way to use collapse and expand or toggle code so you can shorten the length of the page?

Keep in mind, 7-9 items. If there is an index in the side menu bars, I can't find it. The index should be easily viewable. What is your "techie" using to publish?

I'm not sure I'm with you. What would you put in an 'index' that's different to the headings and links in the two side bars? Tell me/show me what you think it should include.

Hope that makes sense. basically. You would chunk your information and have an index that would "jump" the user to the point in the document that they want without them having to scroll or use ctrl F.

Once the reader was at the point in the doc they wanted , thy would click on the title of the section, which would then expand to reveal the information. Obviously I just used a few random sections of your doc as examples. That is not how I would really group the information.

Ahh. Now I understand, you were just meaning the Blacksmith Essay, not the whole site! There are some anchors, if you check the menuline at the top?
Current anchors are:
The Way of the Forge; Blacksmithy Skill Gain; Recipes; BODs

We added items on Community Collections, Resizing your house, Owning/running a rune library and mining yesterday as well as the smithing information.

I'm not sure about the toggle information. I assume you mean something like I used on the Humility Cloak Quest for the riddle answers? The way that's done is far from ideal. I'm hoping we can find a better way to do it.
