The state of UO............................

Maybe that would be a bit much as it would stop people who are thinking of playing UO getting info. What if mods were allowed revoke posting privilages from certain members in all UO related forums upon discovery that they are embitered ex-players who are here to simply troll threads, whine and bash UO.

I would like to see that :D

Then they wouldnt be EX players bashing a game they no longer play.

I think we all know the difference between constructive criticism and certain peoples, no names *Coughs* colter's, constant bashing of UO. Even though through there own admissions they no longer play the game.

Right now UO borders the concept of "apartheid"...

Why would new players move to a country like that?

"Awareness to the flock" ?

"Justice for All" ?

"Crime and Punishment" ?

QFT,

Has anyone else noticed that the majority of uo bashing comes from people who dont even play the game any more?

They moan about cheaters because, as some one posted they cant hack it. I dont cheat never have, i PvP and due to lack of skill im not great but i get my fair share of kills, and more than my fair share of enjoyment.

People who dont play the game should instantly be banned from stratics, i dont wana hear there whining about something they now know nothing of.
I have always said that posting rights should be tied to accounts like the old days. If you don't play the game, you can read about it but not flood the boards with rants about a game you don't even play.

Stop babbling and tell us what your actually trying to say?
Catlord is my boy but if you think you are going to get anything from him that isn't shrouded in mystery, you are in for a surprise. I think he has a 5th century prophet sitting beside him as he talks telling him what to say in a way that makes it more dramatic. Its like trying to talk sports with Nostradamus and Nietzsche. heh

Ah.. to bad your favorite game is so pathetic that it doesn't even have it's own offical forums where accounts are tied to your forum name.

Ah just to repeat, I've forgotten more about UO then you'll ever know, junior.

This game is dominated by the powergamers.
No this game is dominated by scripters, dupers and PvP cheats.

Sure some guy playing 24/7 can accomplish alot, but nothing like the guy running multiple computers scripting gold farming, bod collecting, and running every PvP cheat in the book.

Go stick your head back in the sand tool.

Hey Colter...

... you are absolutely correct.

Then some get mad when anti scripting mobs get organized, when gms are called to watch the pvpers move over crates and candelabras (hacked clients)...

Maybe when there isnt profit involved in pvp we'll see an improvement in UO.

Personally, I think that if the war against cheating in UO was stepped up and scripting eradicated in some way quite a good number of players who left disturbed by the rampant cheating in UO would come back.

And if a brand new server was opened up AFTER cheating is destroyed and not made possible any longer in UO this, I imagine, would gain even more returning players.
Unfortunately this 'war' against cheaters is a war which EA do not want to win. Nor should you want them to. If EA eradicates cheating from UO then the lost subscriptions from the cheaters/scripters/dupers would far outweigh the numbers that would return.

In short UO needs the cheaters monthly subscription. Without it UO goes down the pan a lot sooner. Live with it ... cheaters are helping keep this game profitable to EA, and keeping UO's head above water. Without them ... you may not have a game to play.........

.. and that my friend, raises two last questions.

Why should we leave all the goodies in the hands of a few... even if we all know they cheat, hack, script?
How fair is it that the average Joe cant get his items fair and square unless he joins those guilds, makes a deal or is lucky enough to find a team of insane players that use numbers to defeat those cheaters?

Just curious...

EA doesn't care about fair. They care about loot. There is only so much we as players can do when the people running the show don't care.

Thats just it im afraid. UO isnt fair anymore but its the UO that weve got and the only UO that were going to have. Its not going to change and the reason is the cheaters pay towards the upkeep of the game.

Just suck it up and accept our niche game for what it is. Simple choice.... we arent going to change it so either enjoy it whilst you can or dont play. We are way past the point of no return as far as putting the game to rights regarding cheating. That ship passed us by a long time ago...

Take the West Brit Bank makeover, they made over 3 shards and the rest are forgotten as are the poor contest winners.
This one I'll take responsibility for. We're all coming to the end of a critical SA milestone, which means there's been no time until now to do this. Expect the West Brit Bank renovations to be done sooner than soon.

Agreed 100%.

Which is why it doesn't surprise me one bit when a bunch of clowns on this forum start insulting me and others who oppose cheating. After all, what else do you expect to happen in a such a cheater friendly enviroment...aka UO.

Noticed Draconi dodges any discussion regarding cheating, as usual. Wouldn't want to admit that Craftsman is speaking the truth regarding EA's approach to cheaters.

Does this mean maybe we'll soon see a "dev diary" section added to the SA site? It's something that was mentioned as a possibility at one of last year's town hall meetings.

I dont agree...

I was lucky to cross paths with thousands of UO players changing the way they play UO... and the way I look at it.

We built a tutoring program that teaches everyone how to enjoy UO.
We built a pvp unit that spawns and respects everyone else.

We changed all shards... by our deeds and our effort.

We were just a few dozen players... imagine what a few hundred could do... imagine what unity can bring to everyone...

Liberation.

All good and well ... but what you have stated here does nothing to counterpoint my argument which let me remind you was that you can do nothing to rid UO of the cheaters.

EA doesnt want to. They turn a blind eye apart from the once in a blue moon mass bannings (drop in the ocean) which they partake in to rattle their sabres and show they care. Who are they kidding. Behind closed doors I have no doubt that the matter has been discussed by EA and they realise as much as anyone that the cheats are a valuable source of income ... one which wothout, UO may not survive.

Like I said either accept it and play UO for what it is or quit. Either way this is now a part of UO life which you are NOT going to change.

I agree with you here. No amount of player activity can stop cheating. It has to come from above. Which in this case isn't an option. Its all about the profits. And EA knows that the customers they lose due to 'cheating' (which I think is overestimated by most on these boards) was worth it when compared to the amount they would lose if they removed 'cheating' (which I think is underestimated by most on these boards).

Ya, I know saying that means that the same 'clowns' will pop up claiming I support cheating. But, its just simple math really. They did a cost benefit analysis and came up with their plan of action.

Hum... our unit of anti-scripters would not agree with you.

I dont have the numbers here... but if I remember the last two reports, over 36 characters have been banned for 72 hours or permanently.

Why cant we fight it? It is easy...

For every account banned for scripting a new one opens up. People are making money from scripting. Do you really think they are bothered by having to change the log in name they use once in a while?

Its just too profitable for a simple account ban to have a major impact on it.

Hounarable intent but its a drop in the ocean. They have multiple accounts, so they arent going to give a toss about one account being banned. If you permanently ban them then they open another account. It really is a waste of your time trying to stop them ... its like trying to bail out the titanic with a thimble.

Agreed there. The something that you guys do is much better than the nothing that EA does. Now, imagine if both you AND EA did something. How great would that be?

Maybe not very. They may decide to shut UO down if they lost half of their subscriptions due to eradicating cheats entirely. Be careful what you wish for.

Who says that the 'something' has to be eradicating the 'cheats' entirely? Why not add things to the game (as they did with KR and its crafting changes) that make many of the scripters not scripters anymore?

I highly doubt that the amount of players that would quit UO if they removed real cheats like speed hacking and field running (not saying that exists or doesn't exist) is anywhere near the amount that would quit if the big time 'scripter' sites had all of their accounts banned and weren't able to continue with their activities.

As always, its all about the bottom line.

Neat.

Any idea on the next phase of Warriors of Destiny? I'm genuinely concerned that the event cycle won't be given proper attention and will end in an abrupt and unsatisfying manner to make way for the scenario you've already alluded to, that will lead into SA.

People cheat in UO for the same reason people cheat in Real Life: both "games" are played by people. Just look in any newspaper. Nixon, Bernie Madoff, big banks, Wall Street, steroid usage, Bush and Cheney, and on and on from Eve to the end of humanity. A lot of people cheat. The U.S. has 2.3 million criminals in prison (International Center for Prison Studies at King's College London) and likely many times that amount who haven't been caught or prosecuted. Just think if we could total up the number of people who have cheated on their spouse or partner. Or the number of people who have "borrowed" stuff from their place of employment. Consider even members of the clergy, those generally considered to have extremely high morals. How many clergy cheated young children of their innocence? Ask yourself this question...you list your Rolex watch on craigslist, guy shows up and writes you a check for $5,000.00. Are you going to accept that check? Why not? You expect cheating among your fellow humans. Cheating is more the norm than the exception.

Can you fix cheating? I say not entirely (again, just read the newspapers). Humans may not have the best record on cheating but they are incredibly clever and will find or invent new and improved methods of cheating. Should we continue to try to eliminate the ability to cheat? Absolutely! If only to make it "appear" to those of us who don't normally cheat, that cheating doesn't pay.

Refrain: People cheat in UO for the same reason people cheat in Real Life: both "games" are played by people.

Take your time. :) .

I can't imagine what the staff is up against planing new extensions and fixing old problems, plus the thousands of things the players seem to expect from UO.

For me, UO is incredibly unique, full of unrecognized potential and a real experience in learning about and understanding human nature, manipulative marketing ploys, game addictions, team work skills, politics, business tactics, how to use the internet, etc. and learn to use the game functions, and overcome those challenges and problems while dealing with strangers from all over the world! Like many have said before me: UO IS UNIQUE!

Look at the spread in age groups too. The back bone of UO support has to be adults and shut-ins. Potential long term customers! Amazing how the game can make one forget adversities in Real Life. How else can anyone be in the game for so many years with time to play every day for lengthy periods (other than employees of gaming factories)?

The animated creative art in 2D, is UO. *Watching a bear scratch behind its ear with a hind foot, for example, has always left me in convulsions.*

I have all the UO solo games, and internet games from 1997 to now. So I am not about to quit either. I can't play 24/7 so there's much yet to catch up on to keep me interested for years to come. I would like to have the next GAME EXPANSIONS IN A BOX to add to my UO collection. PLEASE! :)

ps: Jade wishes for snowwhite ice blocks to make igloos on ice lands, a fishing hole that gives fish, and no house foundation option, land only. <<< when the programmers have time to get around to it, please. thank you in advance! :)

Thank you Draconi... at least I appreciate what you've been up against and so I know that things will get taken care of eventually.

Can't speak for others tho I will make one observation; I swear some people are either ADHD or too spoiled. Personally, I don't understand the "demand it now" mentality. Unbelievable sometimes.
