I never found out when killing monsters do you use a shield or no? thx

No. If you have Bushido and equip a shield it lowers your chance to parry. Samurai parry with their weapons. Shields are for sissies.

So then the skill parry isnt needed either? After all Bushido covers that doesnt it? I'm building my Sampire as we speak. :)

Yes, I would say the parry skill is needed. Well, you can certainly build a sampire without it, but you will get hit more often without the parry skill. Not getting hit lets you survive.

It's possible to use another skill to hopefully heal as fast (or faster) than you take damage. What skill would you replace it with? I would guess healing. Try it and if you have trouble surviving, then add it. Maybe you will stumble on something that isn't so obvious.

No, Bushido does not "cover" Parry. It works with Parry to enable you to parry with your weapons instead of requiring a shield to do so. If you don't have Parry, you won't parry anything, period.

SHHH! Some people are from the "I Told You So" school of hard knocks, and insist on learning the hard way. When they do learn something it usually sticks.

I do know quite a few Sampire templates who run without Parry and do very well against all, they tend to put healing and anatomy higher so they can heal in 3secs(some use faction aids as well for extra remove curse) and do more damage thus leech faster.

Although ill be honest im kinda too scared to run without parry.

Do what I did... put it on a soulstone and then go whack miasma or even better, Lurge. If it works for you, Great! If not, put it back on. I think it's a very good experiment to try. I missed the healing, but put parry back on afterward.

Well I'm slowly learning this stuff as I go along. I do actually have parry at 70 though I did stone it so I could raise Necro, Bushido and Chivalry. Necro I GMed, Bush is at 60 and chiv is still a pathetic 33.3 not bad for 2 days at it but I can't wait to get to 65. Enemy of One sounds like a very handy ability to use. :) As for Bush I just kept dying earlier that is until ai actually experimented with Confidence. that skill is a life saver. My health kept going up. of course the downside is it didnt work all the time thus I did die a few times. I think thats just a matter of timing though. As for Parry I'll most likely put it on after Bush hits 70. Now since people said Bush gains faster than Parry, I'll lock Bush and just have Parry set to raise until I get it to 110 which is what I'm scrolled for. Then I'll work Bush up. The downside is waiting a few weeks until I can buy another Soul stone so I can...gulp stone Hiding and stealth. I love those 2 skills but there is no room for them on this template. And the hard part is I'm on Siege. :p)

Quite true, quite true. Not to sound like a certain commercial but...only the few, the proud, the brave etc...go there. Or perhaps the exact opposite of that as well. :D

In all actuality though, as you are learning and have stated, confidence is just a matter of timing. You are however, training in a correct manner by leveling parry FIRST. Many people do the opposite and try to raise bushido first. Not a great idea UNLESS you stone it off. Bushido acts as a multiplier so to speak in that it works in conjunction with parry. I wrote a detailed description some time ago, but essentially your rate to gain in parry is slowed by having higher bushido skill to begin with.

The reason being is a typical melee dexxer using a shield has a better chance to reduce damage when using a shield. When you fight tons of mobs at once, your parry skill is getting checked EVERY single time and then consequently chance to reduce damage taken.

When your bushido skill is higher, IF you are using a shield, you are actually penalized and hence reduces the amount of checks you will receive in order to gain in bushido.

That's why either people do:

A. Work on bushido first, then stone it.

OR

B. Work on parry first, then gain on bushido.

IMHO - seige is item based as prodo shards are, in a different way. people that have played there forever have a never ending stockpile of jewels/weps to use. I played siege for a while but I prefer prodo shards.

As far as Bushido/Parry gains. I honestly think that Bushido should gain passively while parrying with a weapon.

I was under the impression that parry was hard to work with bushido but I saw my roommate work parry up from nothing to 100 in a matter of hours with bushido at 100. was he just lucky or is that normal ?

Normal... I've found parry much easier to max out than bushido. Just look at the other posts about gaining parry skill if you want to know how.

Valid point. Is no harm in doing that. People have their preferences, but one can start by training parry...then let bushido rise and not have to worry about stoning anything. You gave a point I forgot to mention. Kudos.
