Hit Lower Defense Question

Ok, so I have a question regarding HLD.

Say you are wearing the mace and shield glasses (30% Hit Lower Def) and using a weapon that has 50% Hit Lower Def.

I know for a fact that there are 2 separate rolls in the equation.

One will roll and then the next will roll to determine your chance... so the possibilities from what I've read is.

you could be hitting HLD 45% of the time (50% of 30% + 30%.)

OR

you could be hitting HLD 65% of the time (30% of 50% + 50%)

The second one... is what makes sense, but I want to know how it's coded to make sure it's taking advantage of making it the highest of the two.

or my math screwed up?

I dunno... anywayz

Thanks in advance for the info.

The 65% is the correct one. It was in an FoF a while back.

Connor's right, although I think BlacK RaiN's fomular is a bit off.

From the 23rd Feb, 2007 edition of FoF:

"The maximum attainable HLD% is 80%. Do the effects stop before 80%, or is there currently no hardcap on HLD%?"
There is no cap for Hit Lower Defense or Hit Lower Attack.

Remember, the percentage on these abilities is the chance that the effect will fire each hit. So if you have two items, one with a 30% chance and one with a 50% chance, then that’s a 65% chance that the effect will fire on any given hit. (The percentages are multiplied, rather than added.) The actual lower attack/defense percentage is ALWAYS -25%.

So the logic behind the calculation is probably just 1-(0.7x0.5) = 0.65.
(70% and 50% of the time the glasses and weapon won't fire, respectively)

This is the Info:
My guildmates and I have always wondered if HLD stacks. For example if you have the Mace & Shield Glasses with 30% Hit Lower Defense, will that stack with your weapons and other equipment with HLD?

All equipment with Hit Lower Defense rolls separately to see if their HLD effect is triggered. If the Hit Lower Defense effect is already on another player or creature and the HLD duration hasn’t expired, subsequent HLD effects only reset the duration.

Yeah guys... I knew that with a 50% weapon and the glasses it was 65% of the time.

My original math wasn't right.

50% (weapon) of 100% chance and then 30% of that 50% that is left over is 15%... so 50% + 15% = 65% which is how I understood the equation to work.

Let's say I have a weapon with 10% HLD and the glasses...

That's 10% of 100% which yields 90% and then 30% of 90% which comes out to 27% so 27% + 10% = 37% of the time.

OR that's 30% and then 10% of 70% which comes out to... 37%

So it works either way... I just messed up the original math.

Thanks for the help tho!

I now get it... :D

This looks right. The "correct" formula would be:
[1-((1-0.3)x(1-0.5))]x100% = 65%

Each additional HLD item would be another (1-HLD) in the middle brackets. So a 3rd item of 30% HLD would be [1-(1-0.3)x(1-0.3)x(1-0.5)]x100% = 75.5%
How many items with HLD can you have at one time?

I believe there is no limit to how many you can wear but I think currently thereare 2 diff ones you have there may be a third but I cant remember what it is glasses and weapon is all i can think of

Ya, what I should have asked is what and how many can you have on at one time with current items. Weapon (50 max), M&S glasses (30)... what else? How would you get to the 80% max MLD?
