Random template questions (mostly Chiv-related)

Hey everyone.

1. What's the point of Chivalry on a Vampire Samurai template? Is it basically so you can cast Enemy of One, combine it with Perfection, and thus obviate the need for slayer weapons? If you had an awesome slayer wep for what you wanted to fight, could you avoid having Chivalary whatsoever?

2. A lot of people say there's no point in having more than 60 or so Chivalary. I have 100. Am I wasting skill points? I got to 100 because I used to cast Holy Light in PvP. I gave up Felucca, though. But doesn't level of Chivalry also determine other things, like along with Karma determining what levels of poison one can cure?

3. When did people start thinking that Chivalry was over-powered? For the first couple of years of Age of Shadows, it was all but laughed at.

4. Why aren't there more people playing "pure" Paladins, if Chivalry is so over-powered? ("Pure" Paladin here refers to a warrior with weapon skill, Chivalry, and no other similar, mana-costing support skills such as Bushido, Necromancy, or Spellweaving.)

Cons Wep, Remove Curse, Cleanse by Fire, and a last resort Divine Fury for stamina regen are all used quite often, then there's always the quick Chiv heal if you need it.

I use 65 Chiv on my Sampire template because I found the failure rate at 60 to be more than I liked. 100 is definitely too many points to have invested in it. My archer uses 75, and would probably use 80 if I had an extra 5 points somewhere just to reduce the failure rate of EoO that much more.

It's more of a "no reason to go to 120" type thing than an "overpowered" issue. Problem is, there's really nothing at the higher levels that's worth spending the points on. Who really uses Chiv to rez people?

Because it's not overpowered. It merely enhances skill combos such as Tactics/Bushido/Anatomy to increase the amount of damage you can do, plus with the amount of skill you need to invest just to get the damage increase, there's plenty of room on a template for other skills to do exactly the same thing.

Just to add to what Connor said, 60 is all you "need" for PvM, but I have 65 so I don't fail casting divine fury and enemy of one so much. I use KR and can't hold down the macro key to repeat casting, but you can do that with the 2D client, and then 60 might be enough.

As far as I can tell, karma and chiv skill level does not affect the level of poison you can cure. But karma does affect how long a spell last. A Dread can cast consecrate weapon and it will last about 1.5 seconds (from memory) and maybe 8 (?) seconds at highest level. Enemy of one will last 220 seconds or so at the highest karma level, and about a third of that at the lowest karma level.

If you plan for only PvM, or maybe PvP later, I would stone the 100 skill points and work the chivalry back up to 60+, since it goes up so fast at that level, and some day you may just want that 100 points.

At Glorious Lord and then some (you can continue to gain higher levels of karma after you reach the max title), Cons Wep lasts 13 seconds. EoO will last 216 seconds at the highest level, or at least the highest level I've ever been able to achieve, and that's with soloing bosses multiple times and no longer receiving the "You have gained a little karma" messages from killing them.

Do either of you, or anyone else who stumbles across this thread, happen to know how reliably you can cast Holy Light at levels of Chivalry under GM?

I've only ever had Chiv as high as 80 and it was still fairly unreliable at that point. I'm thinking that GM is the point where you don't fail, but don't hold me to that, it's just a guess.

It's not.

;)

I still fail on occasion, but rarely. Probably 105 or something.

Thank you!

I hit 220 seconds back in December or January, then did the fire rabbit thing and lost a lot of karma. I only know that because of the timers in KR. But the closest I seem to get now is 215 seconds. I am not sure what I was killing to get that.

No timer for CW, so I haven't paid too much attention.
