Nightsight on Champhunts?

Hi folks!

Here is a question I always wanted to ask. This constant daytime nighttime daytime nightime on champ hunts is a bit annoying. I play an Elf char tamer when doing Champ hunts..I even wear night sight leggings..But I still get this switching back and forth..Was this intended? Or just another bug?

I don't have this problem with elven chars at champs. But iirc there was a thread a while ago about a problem with elvs and night sight items. Same thing as you describe. So maybe just try to remove the night sight items on the char and see if that helps

I find that awfull as well. From one step to the other the char stands in the dark - and with dark I mean really dark without seeing much from the landscape - until I pull the nightsight item from the paperdoll for a short moment. Very unhandy, if you are just under fire by the spawn and need to run.

This problem is caused by 2 things. First, Elves wearing nightsight items. To fix this, remove then replace the item and it will fix the problem. The second is the bug where Fel seems to "stick" to your character, and even though you are in one of the Trammel lands, the landscape will change to barren trees with bones and gravestones everywhere. The only things I've found to fix this is to either recall, or cross a server line, to a different server, or to equip a nightsight item, then remove it. The Fel landscape will still be there by equipping a nightsight item, but you'll be able to see again. Changing servers is the only way to fix the landscape, but it can and will change right back as soon as in game day turns to night and vice versa.

If the problem continues, one thing you might do to alleviate it just a bit is to make sure the "Dark Nights" option on the Display tab under Options on the paperdoll is NOT checked.

I have the feeling, that the change to dark tends to happen either if passing a certain point in the area or if the spawn level is increasing. Both not always.

This is the same situation as I experience.

It does seem that it goes dark once I cross a certain point within the spawn area.

Agreed. I'm having exactly the same problem as Olahorand and Littleblue. It happened to me a month or so ago (prior to the Publish 58 fixes, I believe), and again all this past weekend long. At points, it was extremely aggravating.

There once was a problem with the Ish Oaks spawn where certain spots would go black. I thought they had fixed those a year or more ago.

There IS dark area around champ spawns. It is part of how you tell the radius of the current level (each level gets smaller and smaller around the altar until it is just one screen). If you pass into a dark area, you are no longer in the area that is "active" and may not be getting credit for your kills. I am pretty sure that this effect happens even when you have NS stuff on, but it shouldnt be "pitch" dark.

I do NOT advocate removing this effect, as it is the only indicator of the active area of the spawn at any given time.

Champ Spawns have had screwy day/night effects since they were introduced. And I don't mean in Publish 16, I mean in Third Dawn, the very first Ilshenar champ spawns. Before altars that used to be how you could tell you were in a champ spawn, aside from the monsters themselves. (And that wasn't reliable as it could be "normal" spawn too.)

Elves have perma-night sight.

Night sight is bugged.

So....

Elves + Night Sight items + Champ Spawn day/night effects + bugs = Occasional weirdness. And, for some characters, constant weirdness.

Solution: If you have night sight items, when night kicks in unexpectedly, quickly remove and replace the item. The issue will clear up immediately, or at least should. (And does when it happens to me.)

Annoying yes, but also in most cases easily fixed....Or, rather, easily worked around.

Same issue here. My characters are not elves. I use nocturne earrings, and sometimes, for no apparent reason, the screen goes ultra-dark at champ spawns. If I remove the earrings, and put them back on, it goes back to normal. I do not have dark nights checked.

And just like you describe, it happens when moving in and out of a certain point in the area...but only sometimes.

Also, I have noticed the light level changes when walking around the champ spawn area, from light, to not-quite-as-light-as-it-was-right-over-there-but-not-so-dark.

Strange stuff.

I have the same problem. Character is is human and dark nights is not checked. The problem is "patchy" in champ areas. The area is light in certain areas and dark in others.

The only thing I've found helpful is to wear the night sight earrings f rom the turn-in. If I end up dead and looted, I'm useless to even find my way out. Its always a joy calling for a "help stuck" and getting a response like "your character does not appear to be stuck. Abuse of this feature will result in action against your account".

If you have an issue with night sight periodically not working, remove and reequip any night sight items you have.

If you have an issue with night sight being way too extreme at champ spawn areas, this is a long-standing issue, I have no idea if they intended it or not. If you have night sight items, do the same thing as before (remove and reequip).

If the issue is with dying and being rezzed and unable to see (especially at champ spawns where there are weird lighting effects), and you have UO Assist, make a "dress" macro. (It took me years to set one up, and when I finally did, I was very pleased with it. Just make sure you set the macro to recognize your suit every couple of days, and/or if you change your suit.) Or, make a macro (UO or UO Assist will both do I think?) to equip your night sight item. If you equip the night sight item and it still doesn't seem to work? Remove and reequip.

None of these are "solutions" to the issue per se. They rather are "workarounds." Temporary, practical solutions that work in most cases.

The one character I have this problem with is also an elf with no nightsight items at all. He runs into this anytime he's been in Fel and back again.

See I actually think that IS a night sight problem, it's just that your character has night sight on all the time and can't take it on or off.

Suggestion would be to carry around some Nocturne Earrings.

When you get that issue, slide on the Earrings. Your sight should restore, and then should remain once you remove the item.

None of this is guaranteed of course.

Try also dismount/remount I find that fixes it for me.
