Stealth Tamer?

I keep seeing the term "stealth tamer" mentioned, but have not encountered one in game, and really don't know what one would look like, or why this combination of skills would be usefull or where used. Insights are appreciated!

Of course you havn't encountered one in game. They're stealthed :)

I havn't played around with it myself but if you stealthed around it would be an excellent way to safely lore everything and find the pet you want.

If you hide right after beginning a taming attempt, I don't know if you stay hidden during the whole taming process but if you do, imagine remaining hidden while pacing along side the critter you're taming.

Hmm... I might have to try this :)

Unless they changed it while I was absent from UO, you could whisper commands to your pets without it popping you out of hiding. Though I guess you could use the context gump.

Hiding won't let you command pets or tame hidden, and you get the skill delay cutting in if you try to hide after starting a tame attempt. That said, it's still worth having.

I tend to use stealth to lore pets while hidden, and herding can be done while hidden. Just remember herded critters can sometimes reveal you so there are occasional crazy moments ;)

Stealth is also great when you're hunting paragons as you can stealth in front of a pet so it becomes the paragon's target and then safely walk to your pet's side without fear of retargetting. You can hide beside a mount pet if it's low on health and then mount it to stop the monster targetting it. I then dart off screen holding down my hide key so I can stop and vet my pet again. I've thwarted many a spawn lurer with that move :D But yeah, there's lots you can do with a stealth tamer.

Some folks have ninja tamers, I just have a plain mage tamer who has stealth on:

120 tame
120 lore
120 vet
100 mage
100 hiding
100 herding (or swap to eval via soulstone)
60 stealth + burglar's bandana usually. One of my luck jewels has +9 stealth so I get a boost from that too. But you could easily shave a bit of skill from the taming skills and boost real stealth up higher if desired. My stealther is my first tamer so I couldn't bring myself to lower those skills hehe.

I find that template works well in a wide range of areas. It's not as uber on the damage output as other templates, but the main aim was survivability and good scouting abilities :D

This is the template that almost everyone is crying about:
Taming
Lore
Ninja
Hiding
Stealth
and use any kind of fighting skill you prefer. I personally would suggest archery and use 90 tactics for dismounting while hidden. Using a nice balanced bow gives you the ability to chug pots and if you run with 18 hp regen you'll be nearly impossible to kill. And if you get into trouble, pop a smoke/egg bomb and stealth away. If you decide to go with this template be prepared for the grief you'll recieve due to all the cry babies that won't be able to kill you. Don't worry about vetting it, this is a pvp template. If your pet takes damage from another pet, stealth away to safe spot. Log for pet. Use gtr heal wands to bring it to full health. Done. Now go get them cry babies.

I see. Thanks for the candid response :) Also, thanks Wenchy, and congrats on the new title!

I've been running a stealth tamer with magery for around two years, and I find her a *very* useful team player for pvm.

Tame (about 108 at the moment, + jewels to 120)
Vet 110
Lore 110
Magery 100 (plus tome of lost knowledge to 115)
Med 100
Hide 100
Stealth 100 (plus shadow dancers, not necessary but helpful in Fel)

It makes exploring dangerous spawn much easier, and as others have said, being able to move around aggressive tameables to find the best is rather handy. I have a LOT of experience being the token resser in my guild, work up Sacrifice and your guildies will love you. And there's a lot to be said for being able to stealth into a dangerous area and loot your corpse without being revealed :p

It can be a tight template, but after much tweaking my tamer has over 60 in all resists and 100% LRC. Without her, there is a lot of Sosaria I would never have seen, or only seen at a run lol.

Stealth + Honor = Tame Anything you want

Stealth + Pet = Pet gets aggro and not you.

Stealth + Dead Tamer = Get Your Stuff Back.

If you have points in the honor virtue you can honor yourself and monsters won't attack you for X amount of time.

I think it's a minute or minute and a half for followers of honor.
A whole five minutes for Knights of honor.

I've been around since Jan 08 and I'm just now making a tamer and learning about the virtues.

Though I believe you only get honor in melee fights. Pets won't score you honor.
According to the playguide anyway. I know not if it's up to date or not.

Honor is a virtue you can work when fighting monsters, that lets you remain near monsters without them aggroing you. Similar to peacemaking. It does require upkeep however, so it would involve spending time working the virtue up in between taming trips. It's one of those things that's handy to have "just in case" or for occasional use, but I doubt you'd do a day's cu taming iwth it :)

There's a brief guide to honor here.

I don't understand. Allow me to publicly demonstrate my taming ignorance, but what does honor have to do with taming?
As has been pointed out .... If you honor yourself, and NOTHING is aggro'd on you before you honor yourself then you have a free pass. If something is aggro'd on you and you have Honored yourself then just Invis yourself to lose aggro and your good to go.

I think that at the 5th bubble of Follower I am around 2 minutes or so of nothing attacking me, including the tame target. You do get the Anger message but the target doesn't do anything. Just get a feel for the length of time you have, and keep an eye out for the tame target turning grey. There is a 5 minute cool down between Honoring yourself.

To gain in honor, you honor your target, it needs to be at 100% health, you dont peace the target. Your pet kills the target you get the honor.

As I said, I use the Named Aligator to go from 0 honor to just about max follower in about 2.5 to 3 hours with a Greater Dragon.

My experience is 3rd bubble of follower will let you tame anything in the game and live to tell about it. So far the max Honors I have had to use to tame a mob is 2. At the 3rd bubble of Follower that lowers you to just a few kills to the 2nd bubble.

I use Honor on Greater Dragons, pretty much exclusively, as in that is the only time I use Honor. Exceptions are High Value Cu's, Blaze, Pure White, Jet Black etc. I don't want to take chances and I don't want the $%^%$#% Changelings giving me grief.

I should point out, I have a Logitech G15 Keyboard (each computer has one), this allows me to map one of the G Keys to repeatedly press my Tame Last Target hotkey. I hit the GKey again once a tame cycle begins rinse and repeat. As a generalization, Honor Taming the Greater Dragons in Destard (Fel or Tram) I can tame the Dragon and walk it out of Destard (Fel) unmolested, as in the honor has not worn off.

:) Thanks all. I'm a bit embarassed to mention I've had knight/honor on a tamer for years, thought it useful for 25% hit bonus. It never dawned on me to use it to tame greaters - and I've died many, many times with them. Simple as that - and dummy me - never even considered it! Had incorrectly assumed they'd target as always. I've give it a go next attempt. Again, thanks!

PvP Stealth Tamer:

*This is my version on Siege*
115 Lore
110 Tame
120 Ninja
120 Mage
100 Hide
75 Stealth
80 Vet

I use a -20 Mage, Greater Heal Wand for defense (Still 120 Magery using Crystalline Ring)

18 HPR, 25 HP w/items, 70 DCI (to counter -25 DCI from HLD), 70 all resist (corpse skin proof), and then worry about LMC. You really should NEVER die on this template. Only way is if you lose connection, accidently hit alt f4/whatever else closes UO, or tremendous lag spike. Obviously taking on extreme numbers can lead to death as well. . .

I use it all to my advantage; Shurikens/Fukiyas, Deathstrikes, Bolas (FTW), trap box, petals, all pots, etc. Very gimp

The other gimp Stealth Tamer Temp:

120 Archery
100 Tactics
100 Hide
80 Stealth
110 Tame
110 Lore
100 Ninja

*There is room for tweaking on this template. I.e. 100 Archery & wear HH, 90 Tactics, 80ish Ninja, 75 Stealth, to try and fit some Vet in there*

It's always good to have Vet and using Enhanced Bandages, allows you to stay in the fight longer, instead of having to puss out and run off, petball/log out and in to save pet. A matter of circumstances though.

Hope this helped all the gimps be gimper. Obviously on prodo shards there's passive detect, but I've played a stealth bok for kicks on Test Center, and it's really nbd to get around passive detect, even with only 75 stealth.
