Returned to UO in Feb. Have recently seen red tamers and faction tamers. What's the deal here?

What templates are they exactly using?
What strategy are they using?

**Not a thread to cry and bi*ch about this as I've seen people do in the game, just wondering how & what they are exactly doing with tamers in fel. Thanks**

Indeed you did, check out the thread "if there is one thing in pvp that needs an immidiatant fix"

Pretty much the "best" pvp tamer there is does this...

120 taming
120 lore
120 vet
100 hiding
80 ninjitsu
80 stealth

Could even scrape vet for wrestling, and use 60 points in spellweaving or bushido

Then you run around with armor that has HP regen, HP increase, DCI in that order. You run an ecru ring for 50 enhance potions, and a braclet is a matter of prefenence.

You simply run around all killing people, and standing there laughing as people try to kill you while you have 150 hp, with 17 regen.

There you have the most overpowered template in the game, your greater dragon whecks everyone, and you have no chance to be killed, and even if they bring an army to kill you, simply smoke bomb and run away.

Tamers in PvP is a sensitive subject for alot of folks. I don't PvP with my tamer (he would get chumped fast, since he is designed for PvM), but from what I gather the popular tamer setups are:
Stealth Tamer (let your pets do the work, while you remain safely hidden)
Ninja Tamer (lets you run at mounted speeds with animal form with your pets, so you can have all 5 control slots of pet, usually has Stealth too)
Archer Tamer (dismounts target with heavy crossbow, so they cannot flee on a mount)

Popular pets of choice are Greater Dragons (5 control slots, lots of hit points, high resists, basically a "fire-and-forget" pet) or Dread War Horse (no longer spawns, 3 control slots, usually used with Nightmare). I don't hear much about Rune beetles anymore.

Try reading any of the "What's Wrong with PvP" threads and you can find some good information after you sift through all the usual filth. Try the one I linked as a start. I hope you have thick skin, because you will need it.

Indeed now that I think about it, it might be possible to something crazy on prodo.

120 taming
120 lore
120 archery
90 tactics
100 hiding
90 ninjitsu
80 stealth

There!

Perfect for you production people, now go run this template so more people will feel our pain.

Let's agree not to turn this into another whine-fest, and just discuss the template...

Why 120 taming and lore instead of 115? No real need for the titles, and the 10 pts in stealth might come in handy...or the GM tactics damage bonus might be as well.

To tame or control a Greater Dragon, 115 is more than fine.

FYI you will be looked down upon and usually picked on in the PvP community for playing a "noob template."

PvPers treat tamers like lepers. "All Kill" is a stupid excuse for a PvP strategy.

In fact, what about something like...

110 Taming
110 Lore (100 + 10 from jewels)
120 Archery (115 + 5 from jewels)
100 Tactics (90 + 10 from jewels)
60 Chivalry
100 Hiding (85 + 15 from items)
90 Stealth (70 + 20 from items)
90 Ninjitsu

Granted, it might take a while to get the items you need, but it might be cheaper than the scrolls need to do 3x120, and you get Chiv thrown in for extra damage, healing and sacred journey.

Yeah that sounds great!

Way to press for 3 buttons for the win!

But seriously, you avoided the question I asked. Why dump the extra points to 120 taming/lore?? For that matter, as a tamer/archer, is there really much point in 120 Archery? It becomes almost a back up skill at that point anyway.

BTW...since it seems to be all about the number of "buttons" you have to "press" (what console do you play on anyway?) ... wouldn't it make sense that the best typist would go "for the win"?

why the 120 archery? god for someone that LOVES tamers so much you sure don't know jack about playing one.

Its called: all guard me, hide, dismount, smoke bomb.

Furthermore, 120 taming lore makes it so your dragon doest ignore commands.

I would assume 120 archery for max hit chance, as dismount and moving shot are enough to kill any player, even without pets (rng). 120 lore/taming, why not? I would choose 60 chiv any day though (not that I would be caught dead pvping on a tamer... the last time was at the beginning of AoS with 2/4 casting and 50 resists with my ww against 5/6 casters), just for the 4/6 healing.

I think the button pressing comparison is akin to the level of strategy. 3 button (key, or button, depending on if you're using a keyboard or not) presses equates to 3 strategic actions... that being hiding, toggle special/double click, all kill. Run and hide and repeat if the target doesn't insta-die.

Conversely, as a mage, I mayhave to make 4 or 5 seperate strategic actions a SECOND (in combat), and my "rinse and repeat" combos take 30+ seconds to pull off, not 1, plus I don't have a free escape key.
