Vendor costs

How do you think about this:

Not all shards are populated like i.e. ATL is.

So if you set up fully stocked vendors with expensive items on a less populated shard you will almost not cover the running costs, neither get real profit of them.

How about lowering the vendor costs, this could be also a help to reanimate Luna on different shards, would also help and motivate peoples to even sell expensive Items which means others can get off their large gold reserves.
Since there arent really often used auction or trading sites anymore i think EA should help us to get us a thing to offer mass and nice goodies to everyone, and think about, im not talking about the big shards, those wouldnt need that but there it should be lowered too.

I just say let Luna be one of the only places to keep the vendor price changes, if not the only place to keep them, and revert the rest of the areas. At least fel.

I like fel and will always house there. I can easily get a nice little house in places where people will always wander by and I would love to put up my vendors again.

Fel is low populated and chances of selling high-end items to actually make a decent profit in time are rather low.
At best I would probably have like 3 high-end items such as crafting kits, etc with some other handy little items.
Usually though I have one high-end item.

I think vendor fees are just fine as they are. I mean vendors are not supposed to be some additional storage space at minimal costs. And if an item sits too long on the vendor that's apparantly because either no one wants it or it is just way too overpriced.

Changing vendor fees is not the answer.

I play on Napa and Pacific. Napa is considered to be a low-population shard, but I make millions from my Vendors on both shards.

Try lowering your prices, selling something that is in demand, advertising with Runes in high traffic spots, or finding a better location.

Also consider the posibility that no one is aware of your vendor. Advertise the location!!!!
I think the vendor system is fine how it is now. It is a flat fee and cannot get more simple than that. Simple is good, because a complicated system would most likely drive people away from having vendors. I personnaly don't want to do much math when I play UO (or any other video game).

There was a thread (I think on UHall) about vendor fees and someone did the math and stated that it would take 150 days for a vendor to consume the gold that an item was priced at. That is not an unreasonable duration for fees, but it is a rediculously long time for an item to sit on a vendor. Which means one (or more) of the reasons Chiera and I stated are probably the reason it is still there.

Bring back brit bank!
I still bank hop to sell expensive items. Yes it might take some time to find a buyer but it is still a good way to sell items. The banks are not as popular as they once were, but it up to us (the players) to establish the Marketplace, to peddal your wares.

I think vendor fees are fine as they are. If you're being hit with outrageous fees you're cramming too much on one vendor and pricing too high. Even when I've had rares vendors set up I have never been charged more than 5k a day. It's all about pricing and moving items.

Death to All Vendors.....let players sell their wares to NPCs, then let players that want those items buy them from NPCs...enough vendor lag already...the Vendors are Automated Bots now, it's no longer player vs player interaction, and don't chime in with your Community responses, they're all bogus....do away with vendors completely....

Give meaning to cities again. Make specific items only sellable/buyable in certain cities, you know, CONTENT....if players still want interaction with each other, let them go back to doing it the, you know, interactive way, through their trade windows. You can't even walk through Luna/Atl because of the ridiculous vendor lag...enough already.

And for those that are going to respond and say how Vendoring is all they like to do in UO, well, the Devs should take the advice from a recent posting and make it possible to be a Traveling Salesman skill. Then if you really like and want to be a full time Vendor, there ya go. Let's be honest here, 99% of all vendors are in it for the money, and that's fine. The Devs can adjust vendors to pay honest inflated prices for items that players collect, and they can adjust them to apply an insignificant markup when the NPC sells them back. Vendor players still make their money, other players still buy the stuff they can't get on their own, and those that simply need player interaction can still get that too...

Merchant to merchant... lower your prices. If your not on a shard that has high gold and high demand.... lower your prices.

If you can't make enough to pay your vendor, You're overcharging for your product. It's called an operation cost.

Not really...

Maybe they just came across a high-end item. Not everyone who can come across a high-end item has tons a lot of gold or enough to cover the vendor cost.

I have no clue as to the complaint you speak about. If you can't keep your vendor stocked and pay for the upkeep then your doing something wrong.

I know many shops that fail due to greed and greed alone! To charge so much nobody wants to pay the price is folly meet your markets demands and price at a level they will pay. If its godly then set it aside and save up for a token go to a shard where it will sell no point trying to sell some things on your shard if the players won't pay for it. But most important Make a modest profit always not much but a bit.

My idea was NOT stupid, but I like the way everyone completely shy'd away from it hoping a Dev wouldn't see it and actually give it 2 seconds of thought. Are you guys/gals THAT hung up on your freaking vendors?

Why does everyone assume that if you can't afford to keep up a vendor it is due to overpricing and greed???

Ever try taking into account that not everyone has enough gold even when trying to price it fairly? All it takes is one high-end item priced fairly to run up the vendor costs to a ridiculous amount a day.

Edit: That and tacked on to the population of the area, how many people will want to buy those items sooner than later, and how many people you can get to go to your vendor house.

There won't be any dropping of prices because the people with all that high priced loot still aren't paying vendor fees.

It's still done the same way as before, except that as the time nears, you buy all the items off, wait for the time to pass then replace the items back at the original cost.

All the 'vendor fix' did was make the already legit vendors have another hassle.

If I sell jewelry for 500 dollars and someone may buy it for 500 dollars that doesn't mean it is priced fairly. In fact if I can't sell that jewelry for 500 dollars, pay for my employee to sell that jewelry for 500 dollars and wait for someone to pay that price it might not be a good price. If I sell it for 290 dollars, can buy more and pay my employee while still making a profit than that is a fair profit.

Real world economics have always made perfect sense when applied to UO.

Just because someone may pay it, doesn't mean it's worth pricing your goods at that price. especially if it will actually run up your operating costs.

I got the lowest prices inside and around Luna allready, i wont give my stuff for free ;-)
But if you're owning a wide spread wares shop on a "small" shard its even hard.

It's not the point that some guys here call something overpriced or greedy - that's just a joke.

It's the point that shops which have i.e. every Doom arty avail, many tokens, many BRK armor (almost only bargains), and many other stuff -
just to offer peoples something which is almost unique on such a small shard.
Keeping filled and refill isnt the problem too, but it is a big difference if you're on a shard like ATL where hundrets if not thousands of players shop all day long.

Relax..

Since nobody else has responded and you demand to be shown the error of your ways i'll field this one.

Your idea WAS stupid. I'm sorry but it was.

The current Vendor system, while not perfect functions well at allowing players to go out and play the game and not be forced to stand around for hours on end awaiting a player that wants to buy the items they wish to sell.

I for one enjoy gathering items through hunting and trading. I also enjoy stockig my vendors up and logging out and coming back the next day to see how they have done.

I would not enjoy gathering items and standing at Luna with a long list of stuff for sale in my profile. I wouldn't find it enjoyable and I would say with confidence I am not alone in that.

So why is it you hate vendors so much anyway?

I actually agree with this 100%. The current system allows me to stock up in the morning, then spend whatever game time I have each day out actually playing the various parts of the game instead of standing around spamming this or that for sale. That would get really boring really fast.
