Well, I'll start by introducing myself..

I'm 18, graduating high school this year (finally), and now that school will be over until I start college, I'm set on restarting my UO career.

I played long ago, the last time I played OSI was in 1999-2001(?). Needless to say, I'm quite lost with all of the new features that have been implemented throughout the years and any help would be appreciated. My main goal is to PvP, however I'll need to kill mobs for items first.

Answers to the following will be greatly appreciated.
  • What is a good starting template that is good to farm for gear, and money for supplies?
  • In your opinion, what is the best PvP template (I'm not really interested in pure dexxers or tamers)?
  • What server is the most active in PvP? I'm pretty sure I'm going to play Atlantic, but I'd still like an answer.

Well.. thats all I can really think of for now, thanks for reading

Welcome back to UO

I'm not a PvP person these days as so much as change in the years and you going to be lost for a while till you catch up I suggest you read UO guide and also Stratics here. As for shards I like my Sonoma, but then again we don't have the huge crowd of folks PvPing here as they do on your home shard.

As for farming, I suggest a tamer or a bard. My 120 prov, music bard gets me a little over 150k every Tokuno Champ Spawn, but I also do well on my tamer with OLs. You might want to hit all the CS, regardless of facet as the new items you can get are petty cool and you may be able to sell some off for gold needs as well.

To start out I would begin with a warrior (swordsman is what I'd go for).

You can train up skills to 50 really quickly in New Haven, which is where you will start out as a newbie.

I would begin by training my skills on lower level creatures around haven such as skeletons, specteral spellbinders and also non agressive things like cows, deers etc. When you kill cows or deers you can skin them using your sword and cut up the hides which can then be sold for a decent amount of Gold to the NPC tanner.

Your skills will rise quick and you will be making some nice GPs from your hides.

This is a very basic startup plan and I would recommend supplementing this with reading up on stratics about the different types of templates you can build and what you will need to fight and accomplish to build those skills.

Atlantic is your best bet for PvP action as it is the busiest of all the shards.

PvP template wise, if you want to play a mage youre prob looking at a Necro/Mage template and for more on that I would recommend heading over to the mage forum and finding out about the best way to build it.

Hail!

Welcome back. May I suggest the "powerganming a newbie" section of the UO Tips that's stickied?

Linky: http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=136673

My recommendation is to start a mage first though, at least to scribe spellbooks/recalls/runebooks and have at least enough magery to mark runes for the rest of your characters.

Scribing would also be a safe way to earn some starting money. Plus escorting NPCs in New Haven.

Old Haven was blown up by blackrock.

Oh, and Magincia on both facets was destroyed on most shards...

Come to Siege, it's probably more like what you remember. And there are many people willing to help you get set up, we even have a guild that specializes in it (NEW). On the Siege forum there is an FAQ that explains the differences.

You might consider that someone just coming back wouldn't know what CS and OLs means... CS I assume means Champ Spawns, but I don't know what OLs means.

Farming items for PvP, I'd also suggest checking out Factions and the new Factions items, with enhanced properties not currently attainable through PvM.

The uninformed Nazi Mods strike again.

Saying a speeder program isn't the same as naming the actual program.......

It's really a shame that the people in charge of UO don't take 3rd party programs as serious as these UNOFFICAL forums.

Make a newbie necro mage. start with 49 magery and 49 necro, the rest in scribe. Goto luna and beg for a 100% lrc suit to make a pvp mage, someone will oblige you. now, beg for a full spell book and take the magery quest in haven. proceed to gain the 1.0 needed to get a free undead slayer book from the quest. next take the necro quest and macro your way for another 1.0 in necro and you will get a full necro spellbook.
You don't get a 'free undead slayer book' by taking the magery quest. You get that for the inscription quest, so he/she will need to either take 49 points in inscription on character creation if they only want to have to gain .1 to get that book. If they take 49 mage and 49 necro then they will only get 22 in inscribe and will need to train it up 28 points. Hope the rest of what you say is more accurate :)

Sorry I edit my post above with the links for OLs. I make good money doing them as well as getting the Virtue drops.
