Factions and Explosion Crates

So let me get this straight, you get low on health and trip an explosion crate. Boom! You're dead, but not in stat. The person who was killing you gets no points, and the only thing you're out of is the pots and stuff you were carrying on you.

I know this is not intended. Why isn't there a fix? This is ridiculous to think this problem has been around for this long and no fix.

Ah I think I killed him pretty quick. Just upsetting to fight someone with so many points, and then realize you didnt get the kill shot....a trapped crate did.

Then you stop and realize, this is how people get so many points.

Alright enough whining.

It's a good point though. Losing faction points because someone emos themselves is a cheap tactic...la

Sounds like a clever yet losing tactic to me. I think the OP was just mad that they didn't get the kill shot on the person who was being ganked on foot. I would be more than glad to loot the player who was foolish enough to explode themselves.:sad4:

Since it sounds as though this is on a production shard...do you get insurance money when they off themselves?...la

Well I do agree that dieing to a faction trap should land the victim in stat-loss.
Losing points for dieing to one...debatable there.

That is the thing, it hasn't been around for that long. For some reason it was changed recently so if you commit suicide you no longer go into stat loss. They should really change it back to the original mechanic. You may not get any points but at least they go into stat loss.

JC, I'm pretty sure that when a faction character commits suicide, the character still goes into skill loss. (It worked that way less than two weeks ago.)

I think the reason the trapped boxes aren't causing skill loss is because the credit for the kill is mostly likely going to the tinker that trapped the box. As a result, the death is probably not considered "suicide" unless the box happened to have been trapped by the character that died from using it.

Just double-checked and yes, suicide puts a faction character in skill loss.

Actually it goes more like this. I haven't been pvp'ing in Ultima that long. I admit, I'm a noob. I played a lot of other morphs before landing on Ultima.

So this guy who has been around forever (as some say) is constantly ganking us with his ally stealth archers.

Now I admit. We had a few characters inside the house. However, the guy who used the explosion crate ran off. I chased after him ALONE. I figured I would check to see if I'm making any progress in pvp.

So we finally stop after about 5 screens worth of running. He is at full health, and after checking his body has plenty of traps.

He looks at me and says: "You're horrible at pvp." Yes I agree, I just learned 2 weeks ago enchanted apples remove mortal strike lol. So I say thanks, and he begins attacking me.

So I decide to fight him one on one. And guess what? I won. So instead of me getting the satisfaction of getting the honorable kill, he kills himself.

Try this. If you have a tinker in the same faction make an explosion trapped box. Kill yourself with it, does it put you in stat?

It doesn't matter, a trapped box is a trapped box.
If YOU kill your self you go into stat.
If a trap box kills you (not yourself doing the damage) you don't go in stat.

A long time ago if you were in trouble you could just avoid stat by getting guard whacked but they changed that and took out 90% of the gz so that's not a factor anymore.

My understanding of "Trapped boxes" was that if it was made on the ground, when used the Trap Maker would NOT receive Credit/Murder Count, and that would probably be considered a Suicide and Result in Stat.
If the Trap was made in the Tinkers Pouch, then it makes the Tinker liable for the Deaths it causes. That would probably give the "suicide dude" the option to give the Tinker a count and NOT Stat him.(the tinker is probably his anyways)

lame, same as self rez, faction recall, and many other twinks

honestly, it's no worse a tactic than faction runes. Those boxes cost more than a faction rune anyway. Consider yourself the victor, you won. They surrendered their time, apples, pots, aids, bolas, faction aids, trap box, kill box, and any scrolls or cursed items they were carrying.

Frankly, Thats a decent haul. You just got regeared for next time you die that way. They now have to waste time and res, regear to return to the fight. Good enough, next time own em faster.

I dont care if they fix this after they put in the fix where if more than 10% of your hps were done buy a non faction source = no stat loss no points loss

Why would it if the tinker was in the same faction??
My point is:

Let's say you have a tinkering character in your faction. You make trapped boxes with him. You give them to your fighter character. If he is about to die, and trips this trapped crate does it still count as suicide?

Or does it count as his own guild mate killing him?

If my questions seem dumb its because I don't really know how this suicide thing works.

I can give it a try if you want to explain to me how to make a trapped box go off. I had my faction tinker make a box and trap it, but have forgotten how to set the darn thing so the trap will trigger when another character uses it. She's got GM tinkering, so I'm sure it will cause a nice bit of damage.

Also, will it cause damage in Trammel or only in Fel? (Sorry for the dumb questions but it's been a while since I've experimented with making or using trapped boxes.)

I still doubt that having a different character in the same faction (and guild) use it will count as a suicide, but I'm willing to try it out.

I make my own trapped boxes on the ground, and once or twice I've been killed by them and each time I didn't go into stat. It isn't a tactic that I use, its just that I hit my box key a fraction of a second after the explosion, flamestrike, para hit and the 9 points of damage from the trapped box got me.

The only way I could see someone going into stat would be if the tinker was in factions and trapped the crate while it was in their backpack, but then the tinker could also get counted for murder if a blue were kill themselves with it as well.
