I use Excel personally.

For a long time I've wanted a Carpentry Add On that would hold a suit of armor and show you total calculations.

You should then be able to 'sell' it on a vendor like a container with the full suit of armor.

Then someone could mouse over and see that the suit you are selling is 100% LRC with 50/65/45/55/70 resist.

That would REALLY help out armor and crafter sales and shopping.

There's no in-game function to do that, I use excel instead.

1 worksheet for each character, I set up the columns for my stats/skills, LRC/MR/LMC/luck/resists.

On the first row I put my base values.
Below that I would have a row each for the item slots eg:

Head
Neck
Torso
Arms
Gloves
Legs

Ring
Bracelet

Robe
Quiver
Belt
Totem

Weapon
Shield

Then a sumation for each column at the bottom to give me the total.

I have a workbook for my tamers' pets too

Excel here too. Really nothing better that I've found yet.

Of course, there's always the old standby: A piece of notebook paper, a pencil and a calculator.

Exactly the same save for the pets. Did you copy my Excel sheet? ;-)

My program is easier. It calculates all of my suit's bonusses and puts them into a nicely laid out sheet for me to view.

And to top it off, it takes no extra effort on my part to use.

That program is called...

Kingdom Reborn.

People creating and using Excel spreadsheets are making UO too much like real work.

You know, some people enjoy the challenge of putting together an uber suit... kind of like working on a puzzle.

As has already been stated, there's an easier way to do it other than creating and using an Excel spreadsheet.

Which ends up being too much like real work....

Shall we make this circle again? :lick:
Sure. To some it isn't work. It may be for YOU, but others may find it fun. I'm unsure what part of this you are having issues comprehending.

I enjoy using excel. I installed it on my desktop specifically for suit building and playing with. I never, ever use it for work.

KR only does that if you are wearing the item, an Excel spreadsheet - properly setup - will allow you to plug in figures for that item which is on a player vendor and tell you what your suit MIGHT look like ... without you laying out one gold piece to find out!

Makes shopping 10 times easier.

I put this idea togather a while ago and I post it when ever I feel it may be appropriate. Enjoy.

Dress Form / Manikin

Creation – Similar requirements to the current Dress Form (Carpentry with some Tailoring?, maybe even some Smithing?).

Art – the piece will either look like an existing Dress Form or featureless NPC(on a base?). With, possibly a male and a female version, since KR has 2 different paper doll poses. May also need race variation to account for Gargoyle figures(if ever introduced)?

Placement – Most likely would need to be a deed. When placing, a direction choice would allow the user to choose the direction the manikin would face(N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW). Dying could work as it does now, dying the item before the initial placement. Re-deeding would not be allowed as long items are present(similar to Elven containers, I believe). Either items placed onto the manikin take up storage(dynamically), in the current house, or placing a manikin takes up a predefined amount of storage(the total amount of item slots?).

Dressing – Adding items to the manikin could work similarly to how dressing vendors work. Security could be set like a container. A beneficial option could be implemented to allow a PC to switch out their current worn items for those of the manikin. This would allow users (RPers in particular) a convenient option to wearing their war suit all the time. A time limit in between switches could be implemented(incase this item could be exploited from excessive switching?). If each item added to the manikin counts towards current storage for the house then switching items out will need to check if there is enough storage available as each item is added to the manikin.

Information – The total of all item properties present could be shown. Either, similar to how item properties show on test center upon mouse over or a ‘Lore’ sheet similar to Animal Lore information sheet. KR has a lot of the item properties, but not all, already built into the character sheet, I believe. The item property ‘Mage Armor’ could appear if there are no items that would block meditation with a similar display for Spell Channeling.

Purposes:
- Crafters showing off their skill/wears.
- A convenient change of pace for those that don’t wish to be garbed for war 23/7.
- Total information available for suit builders.
- A convenience for users with multiple characters that use the same suit.
- A new crafting item for ?Carpenters?
- House Decoration.

Another interesting idea would to be allowed to load one of these up with slot items and then be able to put the whole thing on a vendor with a mouse-over show the entire suits' stats. Very interesting indeed!

I'm unsure why you would continue to argue a point that you've admitted in the quoted post is my opinion. Do you actually think you're going to change my opinion?

That's because you are not stating it as an opinion, but fact.

I can get you a book on grammar if that would help.

I am currently working on a .NET application to do just that. It will also take skills and do other various calculations.

Work HAS begun on it. I started a thread on it a week or so ago. However, I've been a bit busy as of late and haven't had time to sit down and work on it, or even really play UO.

But one IS coming.

Maybe you should get yourself one on reading comprehension instead. Then you might discover that my original post was nothing more than my opinion. An opinion doesn't have to be stated as such in order for it to be one, nor for it to be recognized as one, at least by most people.

I swear, some people will argue anything just to argue. Get over it already.

Don't argue with Connor, he's got more free time to form his defense/opinions that anyone else on Earth...you'll lose the argument.

I didn't realize being retired and intelligent enough to put together a cogent argument was such a crime against humanity....:lick:

Personally, I do both (spreadsheet & KR), though in my case the spreadsheet is the version of Quattro from the Wordperfect 8 suite.

My only personal quirk is that I never end up saving the spreadsheet, and end up having to rebuild it every time I do suit design (which is about 1-2 times a year - I'm fairly comfortable with my current outfits, and have been since ML came out, unless I blunder into a new piece of loot, and that's more often dealing with jewelry more than armor pieces)

I use this armour calculator =) Doesnt have all the boosts etc on it, but it helps me out heaps when I am sorting through piles of armour trying to make suits =)
