hello all , u know here in the usa if the people dont like the president we simply have a choice to vote when term is finished. well i dun think these event moderators have a set term so that means they should get the booot if the people want it and we should def have a choice to vote on a new 1.

we are the people and we are the community and we see on other shard forums people having fun and trash talking in the pvp forums, why should we have to settle for locked pvp threads when we can simply vote for new forum moderator ? :scholar:

1. Please be specific - event moderators or Stratics forum moderators?
2. Stratics is NOT a republic or a democracy... it's sort of authocratic i.e. decisions come from above.
3. but, by all means, feel free to start a discussion...

I, for one, say we need new Sonoma Forum Mods... Someone with a sense of good humor instead of someone being on a powertrip.

I used to check the sonoma forum everyday just to see the trash talk in the pvp forum. While coming to see the pvp forum I would also check the other threads that looked interesting. Now the majority of new threads are about the loss of the pvp thread and they are locked almost immediately. Locking the pvp thread was a mistake and the mods know it, but in my opinion they don't want to lose face by admitting they were wrong and bringing the thread back. I admit the pvp thread had more lax rules, but required more work by the mods due to having so many people that liked to push the limits of the rules. Reading the forums and enforcing the rules is the job of the mods, so if moderating the pvp forum was too much for you let someone else do it.

Bring back the pvp thread. It contained more history and caused more community interaction than any other thread on the sonoma forum!

I must agree, Sonoma Forum over the Years Has been very Moderated to a point that people are reluctantant to Post. I for One enjoy the PVP Posts and the News of Happenings On our shard. I have never once been offended. Sure even i have had posts locked over the years.... But if i had to vote today for some easeing up i would vote yes...

...I assume you mean forum moderator?

Edit: Because those are two completely different positions/people.

I am assuming forum moderator was what he meant. We all know what happens when we assume though so he could have meant anything.

I think the mods here should at least try and open that thread again and give the posters another chance at letting it work. Maybe have a stern little message saying it's up to us whether or not it will stay open or just increase the punishment for those breaking the rules in the thread.

Careful what we talk about here people, we are discussing the actions of a moderator and this could result in a loss of 10 points to your account or maybe worse. Also I would like to add that I agree we need new Mods, ones that are not so hypocritical and realize that pvp is a very big part of the sonoma community, yes there is more history in that PvP thread than you will find anywhere else on this forum. Also if you cannot empathize with the PvP community then maybe it is best you move on to something else and let them choose someone who can since the community cannot vote you out then be the bigger person and bow out. Let someone who wants to do things the right way have a chance I mean whats the worst thing that can happen the forums are already dieing due to the loss of the PvP thread or to the thoughts that you may not agree with the person posting and then they get banned. And this is just my personal opinion.

This has been an issue with the Stratics forum for years. Overmoderation. They used to purposefully send all the trash talkers to our forum because we DIDNT moderate them. And they liked it that way. The problem isn't what is said in the forum. It's a problem with the moderator. He/she obviously takes what is said personally and you CANNOT DO THAT IN A PVP THREAD. I used a moderator tool ONCE in 6 years in my pvp forum. Make some realistic rules for the pvp forum. And enforce THOSE. How about NO CUSSING? Everything else goes? That should keep it clean yet trash talking allowed. If you cuss, you're gone. No warning. And Quenchanct? Relax a little... no one likes you. I say get rid of Quenchant... that would fix the problem. But that's just me... It's pretty sad that we're even HAVING this discussion. It's a forum... where discussion should be encouraged. No matter what form it takes. So idiotic.

I myself don't mind cussing or somewhat crude language. The only thing i think that requires a moderator in the pvp forum is that there isnt any rl threats( i think this is a legal issue if stratics allowed it).

Have you seen some of the cussing and language inside threads commented on by some of the other stratics staff? Look around... theres some pretty tolerant people in the stratics staff... why cant we have one of those people? Send quenchant packing. hehe

I agree look at the mods over on pac cursing yet our PvP threads continue to get locked or deleted. Does this make any sense at all ? And Balinor how are you doing ?

It was the moderators who failed to enforce abuse of the already 'relaxed rules' in the first place, why should posters and UO subscribers be made to pay for this, why should posters be made responsible other than official warnings or bannings if they've stepped over the line. Isn't this the job of moderators, to 'moderate'. Deleting a thread because moderators failed to do their job is ridiculous. Get a mod who understands the job!

you guys are idiots.

you pee in the public pool then wonder why the water tastes like ****.

personally i hope that the current mods retire and one of you guys throw your hat in and get the job.

then we can listen to you cry about having to log on 50 times a day to play Care Bear babysitter and hand out tissues to all the people crying.

i could ramble on, but its 1am and i just dont have the energy to crack the whip tonight. (long night at work)

so im just gonna sit back and watch the going on, cause i know exactlly where this is all gonna go.
we have one of 2 roads set before us.
road one. current mods leave, we get some new ones. we get either the mid western housewife who dosnt even know where fel is and we all get banned in the first week and the forum turns into a Care Bear and Barney love in, and the forum dies off.

road two. one of the **** and moaners gets in and the opposite happens.
and all the trammies leave and again we are left with a dead forum cause they all leave to go to uoforums or something like that.

mod'n a public forum like this would suck.
having to walk the fine line between just all out banning all the ass clowns and trying to keep the pillow fluffers happy.

i know i could never do it.

interesting times.
guess we shall see what pan's out in the next couple weeks.

ya know.... as i go back and look over this thread something jumps out at me.
the majority of the people posting here who want to crank up the witch hunt have little to no posts.

strange, eh?

It is rather strange Poo.

I personly think Q does a great job babysitting everyone here. You do realize that he doesnt get paid, he works ****y hours, and no one likes him(well no one in the pvp thread that is). That sounds like a pretty crappy position to be in for him.

I look around at who is posting now adays and most of the posters that are posting on sonoma now were not here 3 years ago so they probably dont know how lively this place use to be. We probably had 10 new threads a day and dozens of new posts just on the sonoma forum, then fights started coming out of the game and coming onto these forums and slowly most of the respected people left for greener pastures.

It all comes down to respect and just human courtesy. Honestly there are not many posters who show either of those two qualities here on the forum anymore.

You know what the problem really is? It can be traced all the way back to when the old PvP legends were around. We had another forum, PkP(Oh man good times)all of us pvpers went there and trash talked, we got it out of our systems there and most of them were model posters on the sonoma forums.

There was also something else with that generation of PvPers and PK'S, we all knew and somewhat respected eachother back then, sure if we ran across eachother we beat the living daylights out of eachother but when we met again in tram or on neutral grounds we were all civil and polite to eachother. I can remember countless times when everyone banded together to fight one specific group.

It all came down to respecting eachother. I gues its a different generation of PvPers now but that doesnt mean that this generation cant someday mimic the previous ones.

Just my 2 cents.

And to stratics admins and mods, if you are looking for someone else to help mod this place I would like to throw my hat into the ring for consideration. I just sold my business and I have a lot of free time now and will be making visits to the shards daily once again.

I myself do not have a lot of posts, but i have been playing sonoma off and on since 2000. I didn't ever look at stratics forums until the last few years and i primarily just read posts and occasionally posted. Only 2 of the posters had less than 100 posts and one of those is a well known (and for most part well liked) pvper regardless of his post count.

I think the locking and deletion of the pvp thread was a mistake. Its one thing to lock it, but to delete it causes us to lose an important recording of sonoma's pvp history. I do not envy the job of the moderators, but maybe someone else would have been better suited moderating that particular thread.

what they should do is have a new pvp thread and have a waiver as the first post.

you have to sign the waiver and wave your rights to complain and state that when your name is on the list, you are open season.

then the mods wouldnt have to waste any time on that thread and the pvp peeps could make each other cry all day long and then everyone would be happy.

but, unfortunatlly you cant sign away your life like that and this society we live in now a days wont let us run around crazy like that in a thread, so it has to be moderated.

as far as i can see its a lose lose situation.

but i think lefty brings up a good point.
all the smack talk use to be done elsewhere, its plainlly obvious that stratics dosnt want it here, so why not just have a site somewhere else dedicated to smack talk.

but then that loses the off chance that some trammy might wonder in and see how big my pixil **** is...... *sigh* so id loose that.

like i said.
lose / lose.

Uo stratics forums the place to talk about anything UO. Well wait don't discuss pvp because some people are easily offended, don't criticize ea since we really don't want to make them mad, and do not say anything bad about a moderator since they have the power to shut you up!

Thank you very much.... I have a sneaking suspicion this thread would have taken a big spiky mace up-side the head without another admin chiming in as the 1st response!

Thank you Poo for understanding that it's not easy to moderate these boards. How much simpler it would be if people could only keep the agreement they made when they signed up to abide by the RoC.

Interesting so if you don't have enough posts your opinion isn't worth anything here on Sonoma? Hmm I wonder where our deteriorating society is going.

I agree the Sonoma pvp thread never really went overboard. And if its so hard of a job to babysit all us bad kids, Why did Q take the job in the first place? Personally I like the Mods I have no issue with them destroying the Pvp Thread. They are just trying to force our hands to "Take it in game".

I'm sooooooo confused... I am not Discussing Actions.. I'm asking if Discussion of "reasoning" given for actions is ok??? (since it was publicy posted & viewable by all)

If a moderator makes a public comment viewable by all as the last post in a thread they locked can we discuss the reasoning they gave in that post ???
I presume that since any reasoning was given it's purpose was to clarify actions & thus prevent any further action from being required, but what if the reasong was clear as mud imo?? Anyway...Can a Mod gimme a quick answer?? I do believe that understanding the guildlines is a good thing and would also acheive the following...

My general position is that everything can eventually be discussed - within reason and with proper manners. One thing is to say "care to clarify?" and a completely different "you hate me and you lock my threads", if you catch my drift. In the specific case of moderating decisions it is always advisable to send the inquiries via PM though.

Anyway, I was sort of hoping for some mature discussion of the options, some proposals, constructive criticism, but alas... Maybe it's too early and everyone just needs to chill.

One more thing - moderators are appointed by and count with support of the forum Administrators.
