Is there a way to stop UO from taking 100% of the CPU when you are sitting at the login screen?

Games like UO frequently reserve as much of the CPU as they can for performance sake. I find that minimizing UO reduces CPU usage. Also, since the old "memory leak" is still alive and well apparently, I minimize the game and pop it back up every so often to reduce RAM usage, though that shouldn't really reach problem levels with a modern system.

what if you lowered the priority in task manager for uo?

I think the process name is "client.exe" or something like that

Nah, it'll still use the same % CPU but other apps will just get to skip ahead of it in line for the purposes of processing. This is actually a bad thing, and will negatively effect your game performance. Some games automatically start at low priority, though, so that you can multitask. That always severely annoys me because then the game lags more often. I mean, my web browsing is not THAT important hehe

But that's a good thought, and it would work just fine if its just going to sit at the login screen for a while. Just make sure you turn it back to Normal when you log in if you decide to do that because you're experiencing some kind of performance problem with other apps.

Don't run UO.

I am kidding of course!

This is a false report by Windows. Much like the "program is not responding" error. It only means that the last time Windows checked...UO was using 100% CPU usage (paths in and paths out) but that was for like a couple of nano seconds. Far be it from Windows to go back and check again or anything!!

I love Windows...but sometimes, I want to sic my rune beetle on it.
