i haven't had any issues with UO/Vista combination. i have a PC not laptop though. i think there was a thread around here somewhere listing a few problems people have had with compatability issues. you might be able to find it via search unless someone else can post the link here.

edit - found the thread i was thinking of - i think it also depends on it you're playing 2D or KR (i play 2D):

2D and KR will both run fine. 3rd party utilities like UO Assist, UO Auto-Map and others work fine too.

I run Vista 64 on my desktop and Vista 32 bit on my laptop, and aside from the "UO is loading" problem...UO runs fine.

Quick fix for this, if you don't mind losing some prettyness of Vista, is to turn off the Aero theme.
I'd consider that a workaround rather than a fix. My preferred workaround is to launch client.exe for 2D. I only launch uo.exe when there's a new patch.

Before changing a machine from 32-bit to 64-bit Vista, make sure all your hardware (NIC, Audio, Video, etc.) has 64-bit drivers available from the manufacturers. That's the main issue I've run into with 64-bit Vista. There are a few software incompatibilities (smbios2.exe doesn't run in 64-bit), but all games I've tried (including UO) work fine.

Yeah...I know about that one, but I like the Aero theme. So I just use a hotkey to quick change my desktop resolution, then change it back. Works like a charm.

I have no problems with both Vista 64 and Vista 32 running UO or UOA. But for some reason I can't seem to get it to run on Windows Server 2003. I start it and it splashes the Uo screen and then it disapears and then when I reboot I get the error.

I don't think Win 2003 Sever supports certain dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that UO requires...but it has been like 5-6 years since I last bothered with Win 2003 Server.

I Also run the 64 bit version of Vista, the only thing i had to do was update the sound driver. I am not sure if that was an indivudual problem or everyone has to do it.
