Those of you who know me know that I craft in rl too - I make beadwork jewellery, keychains, phone charms etc. I'm looking at the prospect of a couple of large orders just now. So, just to let you all know that my ingame time is going to be seriously limited over the next (best guess) few weeks. I will watch the board, I'll be logged in to icq and msn, and I will escape to hunt ingame when squinting at size 15 beads gets too much! I'll just be passing as much on to my emissaries as possible, leaving me free to earn some money from a much loved hobby :)

What Miss Polly said :)

And of course congratulations on the orders!

Happy beading.

The joys of island life ehh !

its the same here, suddenly its march (what happened to my winter hibernation and catch up ?) cruise boat visits due to start at the end of april so its knit knit (real fair isle knitwear) instead of tame tame. Been doing a lot of beading work on a crazy quilt using those crazy sized tiny seed beads, done a lot of beading, but getting no where fast. Got 20 pairs of handspun/hand knit socks to churn out for may, and a new house cow to find and bring over to the isle. My playtime is now curtailed until winter hibernation starts afresh this year, must put my provider & crofter caps back on and spend my days knitting or ploughing/planting.

Here's to us islanders having a good summer this year !

Congrats on the orders & here's to you having a good many more !

It's amazing how fast the winter goes! I don't have a croft, but I do have another job too - fortunately, things here are relaxed enough that my husband is able to do that for me if I'm really busy :) Wouldn't happen on the mainland, but island life is, as you say, different.

Hot off the presses is that a certain very large department store chain is interested in some of the things I make - I'm in correspondence with them at the moment. It would mean a very rapid expansion, taking on staff and sourcing funding. Fortunately, there's a large pool of crafters here, and they all work from home, so no premises required, just funding for materials and initial wages. It would be a fantastic opportunity for us if I can negotiate it and pull it off - as of last week or so, there were around 600 people here looking for work and 5 jobs advertised at the job centre :( The fingers, toes and everything else are well and truly crossed on that one!

Good luck with yours, Phaheela - I've not had time to learn to quilt yet, although it's on my to do list, along with things like paper making. I live in hope I may actually get to do it some day!

Phaheela you're tempting me to get the spinning wheel out this weekend talking about it ;)

I'm planning a very crafty year this year, can't rely on temp work at all by the looks of things so it's beads, wool and all sorts here. It'll do me good once I stop feeling terrified at the prospect :D

Quilting I haven't tried yet. I'm scared to start with my sewing machine because I have enough trouble with my fibre and bead stashes in this house. If I add fabric my partner will be sleeping in the shed hehe. Still, a bed of fleece and fabric would be comfy!

Fingers crossed for you both this year :)

hehe the main requirement I insisted upon when we moved to the islands, was either enough rooms or an outbuilding so that I could convert it into studio space, my stash is way huge & it takes some amount of housing lol.
