Can't patch client?

So I finally finished downloading the Mundains legacy client a few days ago. Since then I have been unable to connect to the patcher... It connects enough to apparently tell me what the latest patch release notes are, but it in the lower portion of the patcher says I'm not connected to the internet... I was hesitatnt to post here, but I can't find a tech forum...

I do have a slow connection because I am deployed overseas, but I am able to connect to the station launcher for EQ, and I don't have any problems with webpages. I have tried connecting over the course of several days at different times so I can't imagine it's the patch server.

I have reinstalled the client 3 times, always the same issue. I am running windows Vista, I have tried it with my firewall enabled/disabled, I have run it in compatibility mode and run it as an administrator, and normally, still the same thing.

I have looked at the uo.com website but the information I have found has been less than useless...

I hope someone might have an idea or can help. Thanks.

Which firewall?
If Windows firewall , then I doubt it's the firewall
If it's another product Make sure that firewall is allowing uopatch.exe, client.exe to connect

don't know if this will work or not, but you could try clicking on the different UO exe files that load onto your system when you d/l UO. sometimes that works for me.
(client.exe, clientpicker.exe, uo.exe, uopatch.exe, uotd.exe).

don't yell at me tho if that's a dumb thing to do!!! i have done that a few times and was able to get mine to patch, but i can't remember if mine said i wasn't connected to the internet...

Make sure you don't have two software firewalls running (say, a commercial or free package AND Windows firewall). If you have something other than Windows Firewall going, then Windows Firewall needs disabled.

Most people with broadband have either separate router & modem, or a combination router/modem. Routers have their own onboard firewall, and you will need with some routers to allow certain programs through them as well.

For 2D, you need to make sure that UO.exe, UOpatch.exe, and client.exe are able to get through the software & router firewalls.

For KR, it's UO.exe, UOpatch.exe, and UOKR.exe that need to be given access.

Note that some firewall software is so badly written that it will only let one version of uopatch.exe through, thinking the other is malware pretending to be the other client's version, since it is in a different directory.

I appreciate all the suggestions, unfortunately they have been unsuccessful, as I stated before the issue occurs regardless of whether or not my firewall is turned on or off. I currently have windows firewall disabled, and I use McAfee as my standard. But even when it's turned off I get nothing... ALso, I did try using the alternate launch executables available in the UO folder but without any success. The internet we use here is public wifi, supplied by the base, but it allows others to play WOW and LOTRO and AOC so I can't imagine they would be blocking UO Specifically. It all seems very bizzare to me, I guess I am just out of luck.

IIRC, some of the firewall softwares (crappy ones, including some that wifi outfits use) sometimes read UO as Nexon (whatever), a family of freeware MMOs, that probably are blocked, since they operate out of east Asia.

Try downloading uotrace from EA - some of the others can tell you what the client and patch server's names/ips are, so you can test if you're connecting.
