Tomorrow, March 4, 2009 we will be doing server maintenance from 1:00 PM EST and 3:30 PM EST. This will affect the following features: Login, Housing, Veteran Rewards, Character Transfers, and Promotional code redemption. Please note if you are logged in during this period of time you should not demolish or resize your house. You will not be able to place a house during this maintenance period. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Hmm and I wonder why this server maintenance has to be done during the middle of the day instead of during the middle of the night when there are less players on? This is going to affect a ton of players trying to log on during the day.

I can tell you why. Because the only time I usually get to play UO anymore is during my lunch time. The maintenance will hit just about that time. However, I fooled them I'm NOT taking lunch tomorrow! HAHAHAHA!

1:30 EST and 3:30 EST are probably "peak" time for power gamers which would only affect a small majority of the player base. It shouldn't dramatically affect anyone if you work normal shift hours.

If they are taking down all the servers at the same time outside the patch cycle - likely it's not content publishes, but rather fixes. Maybe to fix new exploits or network config (even better - sprintlink or verizon switching them over to a link with better performance!).

It's nice to know someone else plays at lunch too! We should start a guild - UO lunchtime players.

Normally I would wholeheartedly agree with you. But tomorrow is the only day this week that I won't get to play during lunch (going to my nephews baptisms). My kids/grandkids keep me so busy in the evenings and on the weekends that lunch is my UO time anymore.

Sorry it's going to mess up your playing time tomorrow!

Just a guess... probably the availability of UO team members both in CA & VA to coordinate the maintenance, and have the right people on-hand just in case.

They are not taking down all the servers. Only the server(s) related to: Login, Housing, Veteran Rewards, Character Transfers, and Promotional code redemption. So, if you guys are online BEFORE 1PM EST you will still be playing on server maintenance. (change characters isn't possible because login servers will be down too).

That's what I understand on the announce but... english isn't my primary language

It could be that they want their entire IT staff to be able to monitor the progress and doing it during the day may allow them to have more eyes watching. It's a game, so one afternoon will not stop the trains from running on time.

Union rules, all the hamsters are to attend classes on the new super delux wheels of go-go, this will be a first as they doing one of those live telly conference calls so that all the hamsters get all the information at one time, no second hand stuff here!

Affects us poor Europeans It'll be 6.30 - 8.30pm here, right in the peak time for EVERYONE.

Thanks for the warm thoughts, I have 2 nephews (brothers) being baptised at the same time so I will pass on your sentiments.

Has anyone found out why we are having server maintenance in the middle of the day? Other than to disturb those of us who play on our lunchtimes?
