We are currently experiencing issues with “true rares” or “server birth rares” such as Worldgem Bits and Skull Mugs and we strongly discourage players from purchasing them from vendors or other players. We will keep you updated and notify players when it is safe to purchase these items once again. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we resolve this issue.

I think this message should also apply to all rares in general. Nothing seems to be "legit" anymore.

Yeah.. woulda been good.. uh... whenever the first time they were posted was.. forget how long ago that was now.. gotta be over a week tho.. maybe even up to 3? Or maybe even within a few days after the last publish? Been a long time now, that much i'm sure of.

Worldgem Bit isn't a true rare anyway.. was never in player hands originally. And isn't this stuff still all oddly colored?

The sprite they reused for arielle's bauble. The original item is supposed to be a shard of the Gem of Immortality.. the "fusing" mechanism/idea was reused for the obsidian statue pieces (the small one reused for that and arcane gems also has the same name).

According to Ultima Lore, the worldgem bit is a fragment of the original Gem of Immortality that the Avatar destroyed to kill Mondain the evil wizard.

In UO, this was never really released to the players or seen in game, but the object has been rehued and used in game to become - Arcane Gems and other items - although I forget what the others are.

You used to be able to drop an Arcane Gem on the ground, hit Control-shift, and the item tag would read "Worldgem Bit" - not sure if that still works or not.

rares forum discussion of Worldgem Bit

no pic in this thread, but it may be the one you are thinking of, Crysta... it's the last discussion I can think of about the Worldgem Bit

your final comment in this thread has always been the most convincing line of thought, to me at least, regarding how odd things suddenly pop up

but alas, I am *never* the one to discover such things :D

The worldgem bit used the arcane gem graphic. I thought I was stealing a worldgem bit but alas, just an arcane gem.

Assuming that this announcement is a dance around the rumors of a dupe, it would seem odd to only refer to to "true rares". Perhaps that implies that this is a different issue?

I think it is always cute when someone uses "alas" in a sentence. Heh:bowdown:

Probably, you can do it with quite a few items, but I haven't tried it with those.

The best way is to lock the item down in your house then log out/in. This hits your client with a decent amount of lag, and if you Ctrl+Shift during that time many items will appear with their "base titles".

For example, a seed might appear as a "fishing weight" (real fishing weights can be found near the entrance to the Citadel).

Or for something a bit more generic, a Kasa of the Ra-jin might just appear as a Kasa.

Basically the client first works out what type of item things are (so it can render them), then only bothers to pull up the specifics (modified titles/stats) when it's got the time.

Possibly. But even I as an experienced (retired) collector, I am fully aware of the imense issues regarding rares (duping).

The items this refers to are not "all" oddly colored. Gladly I haven't seen any of the items for sale.
