Which Client do you use? 2D or KR

Just curious how many people use which client, and how much if you use both. I use both clients, but KR almost exclusively now that it runs smoother than 2D and is stable. I only use 2D to re-arrange items on my vendor.

2D. I've tried KR a number of times (this past weekend most recently) with various user created UI's, and I just can't seem to deal with it.

If you are on 2d, there's an easy way to estimate the number of KR users on your shard. KR users all show up in UO chat, so if you open it up (Alt-T is the standard 2d macro), you'll see a list of all KR users. This is also assuming there are no other 2d users making use of it at the moment, but it's a good indicator.

I use a 19 inch widescreen monitor, it leaves a lot of black space around my game window, but I actually don't mind that. I use it to set up my spell icons and various gumps.

Entirely 100% 2D until the very end. I would hope that my eleven-year plus subscription payments would indicate my serious endorsement of what remains of the original world...

The Kingdom Reborn client bears no relationship to the Sosaria that I fell in love with. It may be fine for another gameworld, but I cannot (and will not) willingly subsidize the death of the incredible artwork that drew me to UO from the beginning.

It's fairly simple, really. I have paid to occupy the 2D world that I love for well over a decade. That is what my subscription supports - not someone's world-altering experimentation.

Don't Tell Dermott this but I actually have to use KR almost everyday, but not for very Long (less then 25% of my playing time), doesn't mean I do not think the client is a piece of crap that I hate, but there are certain things in the game you can only do with the KR client.

I only use KR for doing Heartwood quests.

Doing regular crafting for armor/weapons I do myself. But for HW quests, no better way than using KR (apart from cheating)

I use two 22" monitors. UO runs on the left monitor with ICQ and UOAM running on the right monitor.

In the black space I have my play screen center top with my paperdoll and packs open on the right. My journal and virtue gump on the left. Spell/Special icons, Life/Status bars at the bottom.

I can't download a non corrupt version of KR to install so 100% 2D.

I tried KR when it came out and hated it; I won't switch till they come out with a client that works as cleanly as the 2d Client.

My problem with KR is that it still doesn't work smoothly for me. By a long shot. Combat is choppy (on a modern system, which astounds me), hotkeys frequently lag before "kicking in" (I get rubberbanded when trying to cast a spell a lot), I get the drag bug (unable to drag anything until I reload game), macros stop working and have to be reset, and both buying from and selling on vendors is awful because the KR slot system translates into "junk tossed randomly on top of each other" when translated to visuals in 2d. Which I can't deal with running a vendorhouse and having my stock look like gobbledegook to 60, 75% of the people who peruse.

I've heard "promising" things about a variety of 3d add-ons and UI changes and conversions and mods and patches... but frankly, if I have to go download third party things for the program to run in an acceptable manner, screw it. Besides even my friend who I know plays in KR and swears that his third party programs have made it all smooth for him still gets both the drag bug and the "macros stopped working" bug. So I believe these are both hardcode problems with KR rather than PC performance or UI problems.

To me those two alone would kill the client. Having Greater Heal stop working in the middle of a fight, or being unable to loot or move items until I relog, can get me killed in a fight. And did, many times, before I found out 2d was still supported and switched.

I am in total agreement with you. 2d 100%. i am surprised that the poll only included a +90% and not a 100%. I don't want to change the way I play this game. It just wouldn't be UO.

I use KR for everything that KR can be used for (surprise surprise).
It runs much smoother for me in the situations I tend to get in, and being able to mod it gives me a lot more flexibility than I could ever hope for with the 2D client.

Since you were nice enough to quote me... let me highlight the relevant part of my post where KR fails in my opinion(and in the opinion of lots of other 2d "fans").

Yup, both 2d and kr clients have the 3/4 iso view. But KR fails on the nice part. Aka I find it visually horrid. I could probably vomit on my monitor and have something that looks better

The KR client is a HUGE step from the 3d client(three d) but it still isn't visually good enough for the 2d "fans". As I said, it has some nice features but not the visual part.

I don't claim 2d is the worlds best client but given the choice between 2d and KR, I'll chose 2d as the lesser of two evils:bowdown:

On my new computer I haven't yet needed to reinstall the Legacy client. When I get around to decorating to Vending then I might. Otherwise, I guess I am just too lazy right now.

Not sure if it is intended, but if you open KR first, you can open the 2D client afterward. The 2D client does not check to see if KR is running, only another 2D client. It's a 2D bug.

Actually, I was expecting less than 10% KR, but it is about 25% right now. Of course, this is a very small sampling and not statistical at all. Only EA/Mythic knows the real number.

Of course, that could just mean that all the KR players have no qualms about posting at work, and once people get home this afternoon it will be 200+ 90-100% 2D users, but still 17 KR

Honesty, my pony, will never lift his head (most likely due to embarrasment at his weight problem), the tattered paintings appear as normal paintings (not to mention the white fruit on the table upstairs), banners have been dipped in paint buckets, the white chest is brown, the butterfly, pixie chimes and two-story statues have absolutely no definition, the carpets are washed out and one is in flames from a candelabra on the floor above... and did I mention the character statue upstairs that breathes on me as I walk by?

I guess my biggest complaint is the lack of definition and depth of the artwork... no contouring shadows, little thought to proper perspective and scale.... I voted legacy client, but I am hopeful that Stygian Abyss corrects all the faults I now find

I use whichever one I find the icon for first on my desktop, so about 50/50. Neither of them look that good to me... But 2D wins for familiarity, KR wins for its UI and graphics.

You can clean up your KR graphics a bit by turning off the shadows and using Legacy artwork. Changing the Frame Rate also smooths out the animation A LOT. The frame rate is now a user setting in the newest BBE mod.

(Obviously) KR about 99.95% of the time. 2d isn't even installed on my desktop and the only use on the laptop is if I need to do something that I simply CANNOT do in KR and even then I have both clients running to test what the outcome is in both clients (usually vendor related).

The outcome of the poll so far isn't surprising to me, as I have stated before, the KR or SA client could have been absolutely PERFECT and there is still a certain contingent who simply would never switch regardless of how much better a new client may be.

It's a damn shame KR turned out absolutely TERRIBLE instead.

I am looking forward to seeing SA. If they can correct some of the graphical problems (lack of proper scale, feet dragging the ground while riding an overweight horse, etc.) and they can polish the UI, it might be good.

If it were good, I would use it.

I voted KR 25% of the time, I mainly use it for crafting and mining

I'd use it more if the graphics were better/crisper. I know that leads to a whole other discussion, but to me everything blurs into everything else, there's no definition between tree/grass and when I am moving around with that, I end up nauseous =)

I DO like KR, I think the macro system is excellent, I just can't play it and move at the same time =P (slight exaggeration =P)

*edits* I should add, I actually *like* a lot of the artwork in KR, I like the way stuff looks, but I don't like the lack of definition. And the perspective seems wrong somehow, everything looks smaller, and... odd

This is one of those cases where it would be really interesting to compare the actual by-account usage stats from the servers to what is reported here to get a feel about whether the stratics population represents the UO population as a whole, is ahead of the curve or behind the curve.

(I uninstalled 2D the day KR was officially released - online game experience may change over time)
