Multiple houses per account... a viable alternative.

Ok, since Houses = storage space, and there can be only 1 house per account, then people have to buy more accounts to get more storage.

The main reason why we dont get more houses per account is because it would drastically cut into UO's profit, because people would close their house-holding accounts.

The way to get around this profit loss is to allow X amount of storage per account. So you can place as many houses as you want as long as the total storage doesnt exceed ~3000 (an 18x18's storage capacity), which would be increased/decreased depending if the account has purchased increased storage capacity.

An exception to the storage rule would be castles and keeps obviously.

Any thoughts?

Hmm. You might as well say "allow players to own as many houses as they like as long as the footprint isnt greater than that of an 18x18 (324 tiles), with the exception of keeps/castles"

Im afraid that the only thing different about your idea is that is uses storage space as the criteria rather than footprint therefore isnt any different in reality than the age old idea of basing additional housing on the max footprint.

Thats not to say its a bad idea however ... I like the idea but it isnt really that much different...

you can still get more than 1 house per account, a friend of mine recently bought a grandfathered house in tokuno that was specially placed on its own island, she already had a house on that account and paid 100 mil for this one and the old one didn't decay after she bought it, so just find grandfathered houses for sale...

There are no grandfathered house in Tokuno they stopped letting you place more than one house on a shard when UO:R came out.

I really miss having other homes on other shards, and would pay for a token that allowed to place a villa size or smaller home on another shard. far to many of our other characters are forced to stay in the Inns, when before they went one house one shard rule, they had homes on those shard, and were a part of a community they lived in.

Your friend of yours is full of...

Anyway, grandfathered multiple housing on a single shard only exists on Felucca (They reduced to one house per shard per account in UO:R). There is ZERO possibility of a house being grandfathered in under the own-multiple houses rules in Tokuno.

There WAS a second "Grandfathering for multiple houses on separate shards (1 house per shard), but this was done in the AOS era, LONG before Tokuno.

Secondly, when you take ownership of a house, regardless what its original designation was (grandfathered or no), it will reset with the new owner and the older house WILL start to decay.

In short, you were fed quite the story there or you are attempting to feed the board quite the story... either way, not happening.

ROFL. I played on production shards for years without ever owning a house. Hell it wasn't until I was give a small house on LS before I ever got one. I shortly thereafter left for Siege. I can't see how so many players whine about not being able to play without a house. It's amazing how many of us actually did that and were still able to play the game...sheesh...la

Yep, I've been playing on my brother-in-law's account for about 3 or 4 years now and haven't had a house. He placed on Napa and I play on Catskills. You either have lots of boats....or stop putting value on EVERYTHING you come across. You keep a core of things and the rest are just supplies to your gameplay (ie ingredients, bolts/arrows, etc).

Be careful going the boat route. A few weeks ago, ship keys on Origin became unusable and folks lost boats they had placed. The problem seems to be resolved now for newly purchased/placed boats. (The old keys never did work again.) Hopefully whatever small publish/patch change Origin received that caused the problem was cleaned up for good and doesn't end up hitting other shards. You might want to make sure you don't leave anything in boat storage that you really don't want to lose just to be on the safe side.

Storage is not the only reason people have more than one account for houses. Our city on Cats has over 20 buildings in it, unfortunately they all serve a purpose for the city, are locations for Roleplay and as people have left the game, the remaining guild members have had to pick up extra accounts to keep the city standing.

I would gladly trade the storage capacity of 3 of my 6 houses to be able to double up houses on one account, own 3 accounts with 6 houses instead of the 6, and half the storage on them just to keep the buildings standing.

Oh, this I know. I was just saying that these are the two alternatives for storage without a house. Right now I have one boat, but it's been about 1-1.5 years since I've had one. I get them from time to time when I want to go on hunts so I can dump my junk and go.
