Will campfire-logout be re-enabled?

Hi all,

about 1 year ago, logging out by using campfire and bedroll suddenly stopped working. if I remember correctly, nothing about that change was officially annouced.

Is it a bug? Is it intended? Will it be fixed?
I personally would like to see this functionality to come back. I used it quite often when switching characters outside my home or an inn.

Interesting, I just tested this and it's not working for me either. Everything looks to be working correctly, it even disconnectd me, but my char is still there waiting to timeout. Can't login another char due to "another char is still online". Logged on another account and I can see the first char still standing there.

Just in case it works differently from what I remember, these are the steps I took:

1) Human char, so 20 camping with JOAT. Bought a bedroll and kindling from an NPC.
2) Successfully lighted kindling and got the message "You feel it would take a few moments to secure you camp.
3) Wait until "The camp is now secure." Message comes up.
4) Drop bedroll on ground. Dbl clicking while it's in my backpack didn't do anything, but just in case, I used my last object macro until I get the "you must wait to perform another action" message.
5) Dbl clicked the beroll that's now on the ground - bedroll opens up
6) Dbl clicked the beroll again and got a gump that says "Using a bedroll in the safety of a camp will log you out of the game safely...etc etc...choose continue and you will be logged out"
7) Bedroll automatically goes back to pack
8) I click "Continue"
9) I get disconnected
10) Log in another char on the same account - Another char is logged in
11) Log in another account, the disconnected char is still there, autologs after 5 mins.
12) Repeated test in town, same result

I have a 70 camping skill toon and I tested it and I had no troubles logging out in the wild and logging another toon. Have any of you fought anything prior to using the bedroll?

This is a result of pet stabling when log out.

Without pets, you can camp & log out.

Bah. I remember once upon a time when we were all accountable for our actions and actually had to remember to stable our pets before logging.. Now I know, this is hard work for some people, but...

More info, no pets, riding an ethereal mount.

No aggro on anything or was anything aggro'd on me (no spawn neighbourhood).

Also wife tested on test centre with 100 camping, no pets, no aggro. Same problem. It disconnects her after closing the bedroll and everything looks to be functioning properly, but I have my char a couple of tiles away and I can still see her on my screen until the auto log kicks in after 5 mins. She also can't login with another char.

Anyone kind enough to test on TC and see if it's happening to you too?

Hunter Moon, has the bedroll you are using always been with you or a newly bought one? Not sure if that will affect anything.

I have died on that character a number of times and the origional bedroll is long gone. Could it be a problem with files on your hard drive? Sometimes I am unable to log on a certain toon and I have to remove a file with that toons name on it. You may want to try that.

I totally forgot about the camping skill. I would usually try to hide then log, but the camping thing sounds pretty useful for Doom or hard to reach areas. Errr, if it they fix it.

I checked this out on Chessy. If anything is taking up control slots, it doesn't log out out. With nothing it worked just fine for me.

I used to use the bedrolls to get critters off server in Ilsh without having to recall and run back in. So this rather sucks if I was going to farm mares there again anytime soon.

Yep, you're right. Just confirmed it now. With all pets in the stable, character logs out fine using the camping skill. With a pet in tow, though, it's no go.

Ethereal mounts count as a pet slot, if you are mounted you won't be able to log out.

Sir, you are a genius! It's not simply pets, it's control slots, including ethys! Just tested again after unmounting from ethy, and it works beautifully

I wonder why they put that in, doesn't look like it was done specifically to stop doom thieves.

I suppose UO server checks the number of CS when a process of logging out begins. If this is 'true', then it runs a process of auto-stabling of pets, which never comes back to a normal process of logging out. If this is 'false', it returns to the normal process of logging out including a process of safe camp-logging out.

Well, that is interesting! I will immediately test it. It would make sense to not allow camping log-out with pets. I did not know there was such a limitation.

Edit: I just tested and it works! With empty pet slots, camping works just fine. This thread can be locked now.
