I played UO when it was first released. I just came back to the game about a year ago.

It's fun and all, but no way AS fun.

Anyhow, I have not tried seige yet, and I was wondering if folks would suggest making a thief for seige as my first, and probably only account there.

Any template suggestion would be great. And if its not that fun to play a thief there, then what would you suggest I roll?

Thieves are always fun, especially on Siege.
I'd suggest making one of your starting skills Stealing at 50.

No matter what else you decide, thieves need 4 skills. Steal, Snoop, Hide, Stealth. Ninja is very useful also.

If you are going to play a thief on Siege, the big question that has to be asked is how do you enjoy playing a thief. Mage, thug, ninja, town thief? This answer will help us, help you with template suggestions. Everyone has a different playing approach to thieves...how have you played in the past...what do you feel are your strengths and what are your weaknesses. Use these to help determine what type of thief template to roll...la

What is this ...la thing all about? I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone would just randomly throw a ...la after every ending sentence of a paragraph. Please...help me understand.

I recommend making a thief on Siege, personally.

I can no longer remember the exact build of the thief I used to play there, but was able to be an effective town (well, anywhere, really) thief and dungeon looter...*shifty eyes*

Regardless of build, I suggest you look into purchasing some newbied clothes from someone if you can. Don't be one of the death shroud thieves. Have some style.

When planning your build you need to keep in mind that, depending on your playstyle, you will want to be as self sufficient as possible. Remember, chances are that you will be dying a lot, either to guard whacks or just people that are pissed off that you stole from them.

From what I DO remember of my thief, he carried almost nothing on him in order to be effective. He was a wrestler with a smattering of magery (I think). That way I never had to worry about finding another weapon and it opened up the option of being a disarm thief (very fun, by the way), while allowing me to have some more flexability so long as I carried a few reagents around with me. Even if I had no regs on me, I was still a very capable character.

Edit: As far as Rico's ...la goes, you'll get used to it. Eventually you will stop noticing that it's even there.
