Would it be pointless to complain if I noticed that someone broke the rules of the contest in their entry but they won anyways? Just curious.

I think it would be pointless and I wouldn't even bring it up.
It would just give the people that didn't win another chance
to cry and whine....

What the hell difference would it make if you did complain? Weve known for a while now that EA reward rather than punish cheaters in UO so why should this be any different?

...

Send Chrissay an email and question it.

Based on a certain experience last week through email with her, I've found her so far to be very timely and responsive in regards to the matter put forward.

At the very least you can ask for an explanation.

*best Barbossa voice*: And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

Well, it might help regulate future contests a bit better. I was leery of entering this one because of the vague and poorly defined rules (and other reasons) and decided to go ahead and enter after they extended the deadline, despite my misgivings. I did have fun! But I'm a bit frustrated from the situation that that the rules were not clearly enforced. It looks a bit slipshod.

For example, they had a whole list of items that you had to abide by that were only posted in a thread on stratics. The original rules on the uo.com website were not changed to reflect those. So Joe Shmoe who doesn't read stratics and decides to enter could very easily have broken one of the rules that he never saw.

Possibly next time they decide to do something like this, when they get feedback asking "ok so WHAT exactly is ok?" they should change the information on uo.com for everyone to be able to access. Another thing I'd like to see are email confirmations for the entrants. Heck, while we're on the subject I wouldn't mind seeing polls and threads asking for input for ideas for future contests. :)

I thought the idea was to get the best design possible. Who cares how it was done?

The end result should be a better bank in Brit...right??

Seems like people lose sight of what is really important...and that is what is best for UO.

Youre right of course ... but i'll repeat what I said anyway as it is relevant:

EA Reward Cheaters .. not punish them. Its company policy where UO is concerned.

Actually the idea was to run a fun contest for the community. Part of having a contest is having rules for that contest. It is frustrating to try to abide by the rules only to find out that the people who put them out there really didn't care about the rules anyways. I was leery of entering this contest because of EAs poor track record for this type of thing. I'd really like to see a couple changes made so that the contests are fair and not frustrating.

Whine, Whine. Why don't you take this stupid argument to a
PM and leave the boards alone.

You didn't win, you knew the rules before you entered. Go away
and leave us alone.:bdh::bdh::bdh:

I'm trying to have a discussion about something that has plagued EA competitions for years. Why troll to get this thread locked? Do you not care about fairness and consistency, adequate posting of the rules, email feedback for entrants, any of the things I have mentioned?

Er...yes. I knew the rules, and someone who won broke the rules. Which tells me the rule makers were being sloppy. That is why this is an issue...

A PM would have been the correct way to handle this.

Thanks...la

If this is what happened, yes, I would contact Chrissay. For exactly the reasons entered here. They should have updated uo.com with the rules, and if this was not done, it was not fair.

Ok, I'm confused ... what rule was there that is worth so much drama? There were not exactly a lot of actual rules to this contest. Did the submitter not have an active account?

Good Question... Tell us what rule was broken and the pics and proof
to back up this claim....

This is not the place to discuss this matter, only EA can say whether the rules were broken or not, though I suspect this rather ancient article may have some relevance.

For the time being, at least, I'm locking this.
