Infinite bank storage, would it work?

Just curious on this, why do our bank vaults have limited storage.. Is it for lag reasons? I think we could probably play UO without lag if we had infinite bank storage..

In fact, I would probably drop my house with infinite bank storage, I am sure a lot of people would..

There would be no need for some huge house..

Remember that your bank is tied to your character - there's been reports of a full manks with high-mass content causing lag.

Now, if they could develop a "Safety Deposit Box" functionality (items not directly accessible, but have to be called up by routine, and involves a renting of a specialized room for 15 minutes to access the content), it might work, but that would be a bear to integrate into existing code.

Fewer houses = less money for EA. (1 house = 1 account)

Doubt'll they'll go for it

Your bank box as a DEV explained a LOOOONG time ago stated that they are actually an invisible backpack that you have on YOU at all time. Which explains why when you are overloaded an arty drops to your bank directly.

If they allow unlimited bank space its like having a house loaded with items following you which causes lag.

So the more stuff in you bank the more you lag?
I would think so. But as you can see, bank box is limited to less than 150 individual items. Just like if you go into/near a house that only has 1 secure comtainer full of 125 items you do not experience lag other than the instant the system renders the graphics, which also happens to bank box. However if you go thru a house fully loaded with thousands of items you get slowed down considerably.

Especially when items didnt used to decay inside a house from a long time ago, many player has a small 7x7 house loaded with well over 5000+ item count in a tight 7x7 space. UO was once so laggy that you barely able to fight smoothly around houses WHICH is why it led to the introduction of the very first Cleaning of Britannia event. (That one that gives you item bless deed and bright hair dyes).

I think it is possible, Darkfall is currently doing infinite amount of items without creating lag, although it is working different thus far, unlike UO, in Darkfall, items are stored in a data base, it wouldn't be that hard although UO is coding, they might be able to do it but every time you login you would probably find all the items in your bank scattered randomly in your bank, it would suck re-organizing your items, but this could work...

UO handles item information differently than 3d-based games, thus the idea of an infinite bankbox would be a NIGHTMARE that would end up literally rendering a character unplayable.

Also, it would make the inherent inflation seen in UO (which spiked due to the introduction of checks raising the max gold per stack from 60,000 to 1,000,000/stack) even worse than we could imagine (since the system would go from 125-150 million allowed in the bank to an infinite amount allowed in the bank).

QFT.

This will never happen. If people could store their entire stash in the bank vault, they'd be much more likely to cancel accounts knowing all their stuff would be there if they re-up in a couple years.

If I remember right bank boxes used to have a weight (400 stones?) and item limit years ago.

Specifically this if they do implement it using the current mechanics.

In the very beginning before the 400 stone weight limit was implemented, there was no limit to the amount of stuff you stored in the bank. Everytime you crossed server lines, everything on you and in your special invisible bank container and special pets container would be transferred from 1 server to another.

With a gazillion items in everyone's bank, too much of the servers resources will be taken up to handle the data transfers.

Basara's safety deposit box idea might work though.

I actually like being able to switch out gear in my house to my reds, and vice-versa.

btw, Darkfall NDA dropped today. Feb 25th people!:D
course, you probably already knew that.

If we had infinate storage it would make it easier to quit the game for periods of time. Right now I would move my stuff to the bank and close my 12 accounts.
