Please describe some of your favorite player-run events.

What was it?
Where did it take place?
What were the rules?
What kind of prizes were involved?
Is there something that hasn't been done that you would like to see?

I have attended many player run events over the years, from PvP Tournaments, Chicken Fights, Deal or No Deal, Auction Houses, Races and more. I was wondering what some other peoples favorites were and describe them please.

What was it?
Best Shot of the Realm (BSR). A monthly archery tournament event, hosted the Society of Archers [S|A] guild. At the end of each year S|A would hold the annual BSR TOC (Tournament Of Champions), featuring all the monthly winners throughout the year.

Where did it take place?
The Skara Brae Fairegrounds on Baja.

What were the rules?
The rules would vary depending on the number of entrants. One time it would be head to head tourney style elimination, other times a best of elimination, or a mix of both if the situation called for it.

What kind of prizes were involved?
Usually gold, artifacts, rares, but the biggest prize was being named a BSR champion.

What was it? Fight Night. A PvP tournament where it took in X amount of people and had them each fight 1v1 until all but 2 were eliminated The last 2 would obviously fight for the grand champion. The arena was setup by one of the original EM's. It had 3 little pins for the first rounds and one big pin for the grand round. Teleporters were setup in each pin which were connected to a house where people got in at. Anyone could join.
I remember a long time ago, even after trammel and AOS came in, crowds of people would gather around to watch people fight. Truly good moments :D

Where? Sonoma in fel. Place called Oasis. That desert area some NE/E or something of Brit going along the road.

Rules: I forgot, but basically it was a fair duel :D

Prizes? Gold, maybe something special.

What would I like to see? Fight Night being arranged again. The place is dead and I forget who got control of the house, which basically means control over the arenas.

Whenever a bunch of people get together for a common goal and that goal includes "Have fun," that event is my favorite player run event.

I have a special place in my heart for story telling nights. When I ran them, there was never a reward apart from those who told tales got paid (anywhere from 1k gold to millions, depending on how rich I was at the time). The most recent story contest I attended has a grand prize of 500k gold.

They happen on any shard, and even a brand new character can win most of the time (there are some groups who favored certain individuals, but those are the exception rather than the rule) and in nearly any location.

Rules vary from night to night. The one I most fondly remember was "full contact story telling." The whole audience died that night. Maybe I should have explained the rules before hand, but that wouldn't have been as much fun (in a roleplayed sense).

Some of the more public events I've enjoyed were the MHC Hunts, back in the early days of the guild (and even before it became a guild).

Essentially, anyone who wanted to come, was welcome, and we met at the Luna gate at Midnight (hence Midnight Hunters Club), and went to remote places to hunt, to get people into areas that few rarely ever ventured (favorites were Blood Dungeon, and the areas between Compassion & Chaos in Ilshenar, such as the desert, the dungeon (Rock dungeon?) and the area between that dungeon & Chaos).

Another activity we did were public Treasure Hunts. We'd take 1 level 6 map per person, and that one person got to loot the chest, while everyone else killed the spawn.

Lastly, There was once an Alliance PvP Scavenger hunt - in a non-PvP guild. It worked as follows:

1. All participants used only normal leather, non-exceptional, armor, dyed a specific color to make the participants recognizable. Weapons were normal material, exceptional quality (since there are damage limiters for PvP that don't apply to PvM).

2. members of the one alliance guild that was put together to attempt to sneak into Fel and do a champ or two when the big guys were killing each other elsewhere, were scattered in all the Trammel cities, and were similarly equipped.

3. The hunters had to go to those cities, challenge the character there to solo combat, and fight them. The first three hunters to win at any given city would be given a locked chest with some mid-range (at the time) loot, like low-end doom arties, minor Artifacts, checks, etc., by the other person, once rezzed, or by a referee that recalled in with the prize, after the challenge character reported a death.

4. Any template was allowed, but no pets were allowed, and combat had to be on foot.

5. There were three grand prizes, based on who brought the most chests back to the start point at the end of the event.

I finished in the top 3, using my BLACKSMITH. Sure, he has 120 Blacksmith, and 100 Mining - but he also has 125 STR, 60 DEX, 120 Macing, 90 tactics, and the rest of his points scattered in Parry, healing, Anatomy & Chivalry - and the generic weapon they provided for the macers was a Mace - which has DISARM as a special move.

I walk in, they look at my equipment, see all is in order, and my skill title for blacksmith. they are a bit amused - until I start chaining Disarms, and killed them each in about 10-15 seconds. The archer was a particularly fun kill. The really fun thing is that most of them had broadband, and I was still using dialup at the time.

As I left, I made the comment - "Remember, now and forever, that you got pwned by a legendary Blacksmith." (granted, one that actually has gone to the doom gauntlet before, and hunts Valorite elementals for fun, but they didn't need to know that until later)

Oh, I've enjoyed Naked Dungeon Runs where you start naked with an NPC bought weapon & bandies and then hit a classic dungeon. You must kit yourselves out with looted armour and weapons as you go along. There were no prizes save the fun had, though it might be a nice touch these days for someone to engrave the looted wep of the Last Man/Woman Standing.

Silly Pet Hunts are also insanely fun. Take a bunch of tamers with bonded NON-tamer pets and complete a classic dungeon using only the non-tamer pets as offense. For the ones on Europa we used to have, I used my nicely trained giant rat named Basil, though mongbats also seemed to have featured highly.

I distinctly remember a black sheep, an imprisoned dog, and a chicken featuring in one particularly memorable Silly Pet Hunt.

Again, bar the fun element, there were no particular prizes, unless you count copious amounts of screenies of your shard's Legendary Tamers bellowing "All kill" orders at their silly pet of choice. :D

Oh that sounds too fun for words. I'd love to participate in one of these. Pack llama ftw!!

I remember we had a 'cock fight' once where players trained up chickens and had a big tourney. That was a blast.
