[UO Herald] Trial Account Changes in Publish 58

I'm probably being thick here, but just to clarify if I can please.

These restrictions will apply to 15, 30 and 45 day trial accounts that originate from the free web trial and the 30/45 day codes we get alongside our upgrade code in the game boxes. In other words, all the spare and cheaply available codes are covered by these new rules. Is that right?

I'm presuming that the only exceptions are players who buy the ML new account code on the UO Game Code site which comes with 30 days free.

If players buy the ML upgrade code that comes with a new account code, that new account code is treated like the ones we get in our boxes and restricted I presume. Is that right? Will there be any way for a player to know the difference between the codes if we end up with restricted and unrestricted flavours? Just thinking about the inevitable rip-off merchants :D

These changes are all good PROVIDED you add an additional housing feature.

You should be able to 'set house as primary' if you own no other houses.

One of the BIGGEST uses for me of trial accounts was trading two houses between accounts.

For example - I stumble across an IDOC on account #1.

OOo - good location. I plop down a new plot. My old house goes into decay but I still want to keep it and move house to second account.

Well, you cannot make your primary house primary again without trading to another account and back.

Voila! Temporary account! Hold house, trade back to primary account when placing/keeping timer is up.

I should be able to trade new house to second account and 'reset' my primary house to primary.

If that feature exists - no use to me for temp accounts.

I'd like to see EA/Mythic revisit the 1 house per account rule since there's so much land (and soon to be more) and few accounts, but I don't see the need to allow Free Trial accounts to own real estate, even temporarily.

It's nice that you had a work around, for a while, using this but it doesn't seem to me that free accounts should be owning houses.

Personally, I'd like to see a housing limit something like 18x36 or something, any way you want to split it up... meaning you could have that many total tiles but no one toon could own more than one house... so you could own two 18x18s or three of something smaller or whatever... accross your account. But that's a different thread.

Well trail accounts are NOT temporary accounts. They are for NEW players to TRAIL the game for a short time. They are and never were intended to be used for housing exchange. This is a good fix and hope it blocks the very thing you are doing with them.

Speedhacking != so easy...

They can tell if you are playing on a Freebie account or on a Paid account. That's in their systems and easy enough for them to code for.

There are so many things going on with the PC side that can affect Speedhacking I don't think you will see a true comprehensive fix for that one any time soon. The may catch a cheater here or there... but without some real solution running on everyone's PC in the background to watch for illegal software (Punkbusters, I think its called) I doubt we'll really see a major change on that front for UO.

This, and scripts are the two things that continue to plague UO for us Fel-based players. I understand, especially with another expansion coming soon, that a need to create a stable economy exists. I also understand that things must be done to lure new players into the game.

But despite the many demands from Fel players to fix speedhacking, we have never gotten even an incomplete answer.

At this point, I would be willing to forgo a fix in exchange for GMs that actually ban people who are blatantly speedhacking and/or scripting. When there is no one who will bring about fixes for speedhacking; and GMs will not ban a person who is using them...in effect, players are being encouraged to use them. After all, why wouldn't you? There has not been a single banning for the usage of these exploits in years; players need not fear using them.

The Fel community has been ignored for quite some time regarding these issues, to the point where we no longer expect any fix will ever come. Sadly enough, those of us who have asked for help regarding these issues are usually flamed/banned/moderated and told that there are more significant issues to handle. No other game change in recent years has been as unfair and game changing as the usage of exploits for PvP. As our community dwindles, I can only hope that the changes made in these publishes will lure enough new players to the game to replace the current exiting Fel population.

GREAT!

Now do we have a possible time frame for evaluation and a possible return to non randomized resources? Please?
don't count on it. It just made it easier for scripters to make loads of cash.

Aye. I´d say keep the resources randomized...

This is why we're looking forward to dropping the "character age requirements" for house placement, once we replace it with trial account status.

Right now, house placement depends on the age of your character, not your account. The post you're citing above applies to Publish 58, which hasn't happened yet.
Ummm, my character was created the day I activated the account? According to your explanation I should be able to place a house, no?

I'm more curious than anything and I'd appreciate an answer. Thank you very much and keep up the good work y'all!

Don't get me wrong, I think I'm remembering correctly that veins and other resources were always designed to "play out" and respawn. And for nearly a month there back in late 99 or early 2000 no resources spawned at all while they looked at the "problem" of static elevated resources.

There should be some randomization, but not every time the vein runs dry.

You can usually visit a spot a couple of times before the ore or wood type changes. And I've been able to go several months (e.g., 4-6) without using my runes and then get bit by the mining or LJ bug and find that a good number of them are still good. So, as far as I can tell, the randomization doesn't seem to happen when a timer runs out (unless it's a really long timer), but rather seems to be triggered by something else. Haven't figured out yet exactly what the "something else" is quantity-wise but can't complain too much really. At least now I manage to get some of the high-end stuff, instead of finding it already taken by someone else or that the runes are blocked.

Pls include white pearls into the 'bonus resource list' that trial-players cannot get.

With these new changes hopefully reducing the scripting of resource gathering, would it be possible to return the spawning of Rare woods to the way it used to be? The current system proves highly frustrating for the average player.
