We have a thread going here about all the things we miss about "old" UO...but I know there have been some changes that have been really good too!

I have seen others mentioning a few things in that thread, so I figured this would give us a change to voice some positive things instead of just negative things.

For me...the changes I actually like are:

- Skill/Stat locks - Not having to worry about losing your profession title while working up another skill is awesome! Plus, with this new system, you have much more control over skills you actually don't want to reach 100.

- House security/lock downs etc. - Having things in your house that anyone could just walk in and take/move/destroy was a pain in the butt! Also, if you lost your key to your house back then, it was useless for storage...and there was a good chance you would have PKs hidden in your house when you got there!! The new system for house security, IMO, is pretty much perfect.

- Pet bonding. Sure, hunting with 5+ dragons was nice, but now your pets can recall with you, and you don't have to go pluck a fresh one every time they die.

- Necro/Chiv/Bushi/Ninja skills - The only really positive things to come out of AoS were Necromancy and Chivalry to me. Malas is a trailer park, and the item properties/artifacts suck big time, but adding Necro and Chiv was awesome! The whole Sam Empire expansion was good in my opinion. It didn't really do anything to screw up the game, and the new content was nice! (Bring back Treasures of Tok!!!)

- Slayer weapons. In the beginning, there was only silver weapons. It was really cool when the other slayers came out.

- Runebooks. Carrying packs full of loose runes that were left on your corpse when you died was a huge pain.

- The new ore colors. It was cool when a full suit of Valorite was extremely rare. The colored ores were all equal when it came to your AR, but the rarity was due to the lack of ore. I guess now, everyone would have val suits thanks to scripters...but it was a cool addition.

I may think of some more...your turn! What do you like about the "new" UO???

Of course custom housing.

"new" leather types.

Black/special/leather/runebook/statuette tubs (any tub which lets you dye a normally undyeable thing in colours which aren't stupid is good in my book)

I'm tempted to say ethys but actually I think the game was cooler without them. I'm on the fence on that one.

New vendor system

Ilshenar

Might add some more later if I think of any.

(I'm tempted to say we need a "what you don't like about "New" UO" version, but that would be tantamount to consolidating the rest of U.Hall into one thread ;))

I'm so gonna get flamed for this...

But I have to say the KR/SA Client(s).

For someone that never used UOA, KR has been wonderful!

The best change is that UO is fun. I started playing the first week of UO’s release. Then I took a three year break because I was not happy with the changes (blah blah) and played other games for a while. Now I’ve been back for four years and I am having more fun now than I ever have with UO or any game for that matter.

Not at all, I love the KR client now that I've gotten it stable. It's not perfect, but it's a huge step up from 2D for me.

*nods* Trammel.

House customization.

I like most of the new maps, for one reason or another.

The "new leathers" are cool.

Artifacts (in concept far more than in implementation).

Doom Gauntlet's cool.

Champ spawns. (Not sure about power scrolls....In retrospect they may have started us down a road that's been pretty bumpy, to say the least!)

A lot of the plot developments since the start have been cool to RP off of.

A lot of stuff, really.

I miss some stuff too actually; it's in the other thread that Morgana mentioned. Pretty buried.

...

Let's see... how "new" are we talking here? What's the baseline for "new"?

Spring Cleaning was a great system (I'm a fan of having a turn in or use for uncommon and rarer dropped loot items)

BODs for their faults are a good system (Especially how they are now. Allowing a crafter to get a new deed when turning one in has really helped open the system up to legit players)

Treasures of Tokuno drop system (not just the event itself, but the drop system of setting a baseline chance for a special loot item then having it increase as you fight through a spawn until you are rewarded for the effort more than just having a high Luck score)

Faction-caused Tram city invasions (While they can be a bit annoying for unknowing crafters logging in, overall they bring a great dynamic to the game with a way to beat the spawn and not simply the old "invasion" style of "turn on, respawn, turn off". Also the ranks of NPC fighters is cool as well)

The KR/SA client. Nice additional functionality and better suited to higher end specs (specifically larger monitors)

Just a few of many, mostly newer things as I'm not sure where the baseline for "new" starts (if new means 9 years ago forward, the list is gonna be HUGE)

No flames from me. I liked many of the Tok1 colors.

Customized housing, definitely.

Loved the slime event. I liked being able to dye the items from them.

I really liked the way the Tokuno event was done-a fun and good idea.

Spring Cleaning was fun and smart.

I like the rubble event, too.

Guess I like being able to earn my pixels without having to have millions invested in a bunch of artifacts to make my character playable.

Increased house storage

Custom housing improvements

BUG FIXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<---------

I'm not entirely sure, but it seems like I finally get looting rights for stuff my Animate Dead spawn damages! Necro love!

The ToT drop system.

Being able to get some kind of arty type drop pretty much wherever you hunt! This is a big deal for me, because it means that I can have some variety in what I kill without feeling like I'm wasting my time. I remember when the original ToT event was about, I felt like I couldn't hunt anywhere else or I'd miss out on these "limited time" items. Heh, now that I think of it, SE areas may be the only ones left out eh?

Repair deeds. I don't remember those being around when I started. If they were, I didn't know about them.

Crafting improvements! I can make some slightly better stuff than I could years ago, and its a step in the right direction. Keep it up!

I don't know what "new" means. Pre aos?

Anyway, heres the more recent things I liked.

1! Siege finally getting the "siege bless" option, and all other blessings removed. Made the shard so much better. (cept for the ones the forgot, like quest items)

2) The magincia event. I had a blast blowing it up, and squirreling away loots. Very satisfying for a deco rat like me.

3) Customizable houses. One of the best things ever put in game. Love it.

I liked AoS just after it was released, when Doom was stuffed with people and Arties wernt so easy to come by.

Aswell as this the expansion of materials has also helped UO for the better in my opinion.

Things I miss, the player base for sure, back in the days when WBB used to be stuffed with players

Gamblers, another thing I miss, you dont see them around anymore picketing on the side of Lord Brits moat, its the smaller things such as that what I miss and cherish the most :)

Love, love, love stat lock and skill locks. Getting the perfect 7x GM set of skills, then accidentally get a skill gain when you walked by some dingleberry camping in the wilderness or something was annoying as hell.

Love runebooks.

Absolutely love, love, love the change in moongates. Did NOT love bouncing around for ten damn minutes trying to get to Magincia.

"New" = things that changed since T2A in my opinion.

Actually, I guess nothing really started to change...besides the tram/fel split...before Third Dawn.

- I did like the Tokuno dyes. By the time they were released, everyone was wearing mis-matched armor of all kinds of ridiculous colors. Some chose to dye their items all the same color, or some combination of colors that looked cool...others look like circus clowns. So this one was a double edged sword I guess.

Boy that's tough, there's a lot of things I didn't like at first but have grown to love.

The barding changes at first were tough (especially provoke) but they weeded out the get-rich-quick folks over time.

Customizable housing definitely. Right now I'm deciding what to do with my bigger plot -- ideas that I could not possibly have set up years ago.

Skill interactions -- over time we've gotten more interdependency between skills and attributes, usually for the good. I like having to think a bit as to whether you want that extra bit of armslore just to get an extra 1 point of damage increase.

Crafting menus -- having used all of the menus from the beginning, I can tell you without a doubt we have it 50 times better than what we started with. Inscription. From 0 to 100. Old menus. Enough said.

New skills -- I've been very happy to have more and more skills added in without our skill caps drastically increased. If you want to try new skills you need to change things out, rather than just adding more in. I like that you have to make some effort to change your characters, rather than just adding onto them like a borg.

Skill gains -- they are much more realistic these days, though some of old school folks still bemoan the amount of time WE spent compared to those youngsters today and their fancy scrolls. It looks like they are targetting 40 hours max for a skill to GM, which is much more realistic (smithing took me almost 6 months as I recall, of "hard" work.)

Craftable artifacts -- we should always have had the ability to make special artifacts. I only wish they'd allow us to take artifact components, make our own special named artifacts. It would be much more satisfying to have "Diamond's Magebite" or "Spear of Doom" with your own special additions.

Events where we can really make some difference. Magincia wasn't totally that (since it was a forgone conclusion that greed would win over people doing the right thing) but there was the possibility we could have stopped its destruction. Some of the current events are good for that too. I really do want world-changing events throughout the year though, not just now and then. Even better if the devs put in events that could be triggered way down the line; it's nice to have a surprise of something happening when there was no associated publish for it and no EMs really running the show but reacting to it WITH us.

Perhaps Draconi will work up some surprise events for us that way, since he likes to test our reaction times.

And I love that Paxlair and company is still around, albeit in different forms. It's nice to see old friends from battles of a decade ago.

Gonna be lazy and steal from my posts on the other thread heh :

1) Recalling from 1 subserver to another don't take 5 minutes

2) Lots more stackable stuff

3) Trammel

4) Fire beetles and giant beetles

5) No more server full messages.

6) NPCs don't simply grab everything lying on the floor now.

7) A guild system!

8) Tons of ridable and other pets to tame

9) "All kill" (as opposed to having to instruct them one by one)

10) Pet bonding

11) Expanded list of magic properties

12) LRC suits!

13) House security

14) BoD

15) No need to use item ID anymore and find out that the magic item has been ID'd by too many people already and you can't ID it anymore

16) No hunger timer where you had to feed your pet once every hour

17) Skill and stats lock

18) Insurance

19) Crafting enhancements

The human bonus skills points makes it so much easier to role play when you can craft basic things

Also I liked how KR looks but look forward to seeing the new SA features first hand. Greatest idea I ever submitted was stressing the importants of a import, export feature for KR macros

1. It's still UO

2. Still enjoyable after almost 10 years

3. The game has improved steadily

4. Lag/client crashes (even with KR)/reverts are (mostly) a thing of the past

5. Dev team
