Guild mate was at DOOM with me this week.

he pulled out to take his tamer back and do some tweaking.

he logged out in his house in fel and logged in on another character and was kinda suprised to see his Greater Dragon still sitting in the house.

so he checked it, still bonded.

so he logged out and back in on his tamer (yes same account) and took his dragon to the stable.

he then switched back to his other toon and did some stuff, came back and switched back to his tamer..... and his dragon was there with him in his house.

the same dragon that he stabled.

that should put the fear into a few of ya.
not only are we losing pets cause we log out in our houses with them, but now they are bouncing out of the stable.

you arnt safe anywhere tamers!
the UO Code Monster is coming for you, hahahhaaahhaha!!!!

That would scare some tamers for sure.

Another thing that's gonna scare them is the upcoming change that makes it so you can't change into animal form if you have a pet out.

I can already hear the cryin'. :sad2:

That pre-emptive crying you hear is me.. :sad2:

I'm going to lose my ratform + giant rat RP hi-jinx because of a few pvp twinks? Wow, this seems familiar..

Anyone who has had a tamer for very long knows to stable their pet as (the golden rule) be fore logging and always wait for buffs/curses to debuff.

and if he did stable perhaps stable slots where affected by His tweaks

Just a few nights ago, I had a strange occurrence.

I was at my house moving a lot of stuff around, so I had gotten off my nightmare (my favorite pet btw) Rayder so I could see what I was doing without his big ol' black butt in my way :)

Anyway, I got back on and logged out before server down...or so I thought.

Next day I log in, and I didn't even notice that Rayder was GREY to me...so I switched to another window, checked my email, yadda yadda yadda...came back to my UO window DEAD!

Got rez'ed, re-tamed him, but now he is not bonded to me. So he has to sit in the stable for a whole week.

I felt rather dumb, but at the same time, I was like WTF?

wife use to just log out at home with pet in Tow, but when I told her of another thread where they lost a greater dragon to the log out bug she now takes her white wrym to the stables before recalling home.

make me wish we had that 11th anniv gift so you could stable your pets at home in emergencies.

you may have missed the part where i said he stabled the pet.

and when he next logged in it was beside him in his house.

Seems to me PVM got screwed over once again due to some PVP issues... :sad4:

Thats always how it works. Things change and we move on with them. Now if the pvpers could do the same maybe the devs would have some time to fix all the damn bugs.

I had this happen to me this week. Stabled my pet. Went home and logged out. Logged in several hours later and my pet was next to me just as if I had logged out with it at home.

So yes, pets are failing to stable properly. Since that day I have not gone home and immediately logged out after stabling a pet. I usually have gold or something to drop in the bank after hunting with my pet so I've changed my usual routine of banking/stabling/going home, to stabling/banking/going home.

I think I know the issue in question.

When you log out, a pet is autostabled.

If you log out while dead, when you log back in, and are still dead, it remains there in the stable, instead of being brought to you. Its slots are still occupied until you recover it.

If you CLAIM the pet from a stable, instead of logging out, it will Bounce back OUT of the stable to you, next time you log in, even if you stabled it again.

This can also happen where it effectively dismounts you on logout, if the animal was a mount, that you recovered via claiming instead of logout/login, then mounted. This can be REALLY BAD if it was a loaded Giant Beetle, as while the unloaded mounts get autostabled, the loaded beetle ISN'T.

I'm sure that there are other reasons that can cause this (as these instances don't exactly match the OP's report), but they are all most likely related to a single line or section of the pet autostable code.

I am not scared of this if my dragon go's away i go find a bigger better one.

But i also lost a pet recently near server down time i was stocking vendors as i do often in the morning b4 down time was on my crafter who rides a blue keeps it full of junk mostly just an extra bit of storage for my over flowing home. I know i got back on it and logged out with lots of spare time or so i thought.

Now i just wait and my vendors are neglected at that time of day
lost alot of tali's i liked to use thankfully i always have a spare!

isnt this an issue with not having the correct "real" taming skill for the creature?

it can bond but if you dont have the skill without jewels it can decide to do bad things, like unstable etc

i lost a nightmare when i was training due to this, when i asked for gm help that was what i was told

when i got the real tamer/lore skill, i never lost one

but, i have never owned a GD but it might be the same reason

Rubbish.

Greaters take up 5 slots because the tamer is not intended to move at mounted speed while in control of one, plain and simple.

The fact that you can use animal form to get around this was a dev oversight which is now being corrected.

PvM tamers have been exploiting this developer oversight the same way PvP tamers have so don't play the victim when something that clearly wasn't intended is removed from the game.

As I understand it Fink, you should be alright. Ratform and Giant Rat are pollymorph forms aren't they?

This nerf is only for ninja animal forms (i think), so if the Devs have got this right then you should be fine... :)

i really hope it will be something along the lines of the mount speed forms take a controll slot, because i will be really dissapointed if i cant have my 5 ostards in rat or cat form

1. This has nothing to do with skill level. I have 120/120/120 real taming skills.

2. This has nothing to do with dying, being dead at login, flagging, buffs/debuffs or how a pet was claimed.

The best clue I can give the Devs is that it is a timing issue. Stabling my greater dragon properly at the stables, then quickly logging out at home produced the occurrence for me.

How about this then...

Logged on my tamer to go hunting with my beetle /bake, so went to stable to stable dreadmare. After said hunting i went back to my house, later logged back on (i dont tend to stable my pets once the combat timer is gone they auto log for me everytime) and would you believe it i had my beetle/bake AND dreadmare!!!

I have no problem with them fixing it so one can´t PVP with a greater drag while in mounted form.

I just don´t think this is the right way to do it.

They should at least wait until after the capping of pets damage in PVP to see if there still is a need of fixing the mount speed + drag issue.

I use all kinds of animal forms when out PVMing to help me stay alive, and I´m sure many others do as well, and to take that option away just cuz of some PVP scenario is wrong. There should be another way to deal with it.

Oh well, we´ll see what happens I guess...

- What if they made animal forms that give you speed boosts count as an animal control slot?

Ratform = a ninja form, my giant rat = a pet.. I wouldn't be able to use both at once if forms and pets were mutually exclusive. :sad4:

I prefer the idea that animal forms (or at least the mounted-speed ones) take up one pet control slot, that would fix the greater dragon pvp issue?
