Does anybody actually use hitching posts?

The ingredients to build one are ridiculously hard to get. It has to be recharged often, and it will wear out so it cannot be used again.

Too much pain to go through. I rather recall to a town and stable my pets there.

Why does a so useful house add-on have to have so many disadvantages that you choose not to use it?

P.S.: Same goes for the arcane bookshelf. The books are so rare nobody actually has such a shelf.

Lol. Thankfully my house is about 5 steps from a stablemaster NPC.

Is a good deco item but!

Nope, as much as I like the idea of being able to stable in the comfort of my own home, I'm not about to use it. With the items being so hard to obtain, it's strictly decorative.

Oh yeah...I use mine all the time. In fact, I don't bother with NPC stables anymore. When one wears out, I just buy a new one. They are only like 2-3 million gold. That's nothing!

Just kidding

Does UO really need one more reason for its citizens to never need to go to its towns? It is ok to use them for special events like auctions or whatever but it would be a pity if they are given infinite charges. I can agree with boosting them a little bit but definitely against infinite charges idea.

i meant like infinite recharges not the current ammount on it, just ability to continously recharge it

It's time consuming getting the items to make one, yes. However its not that hard.
I'm on OCE and I sell them for 500k ea. So if your in the neighbourhood come to Rivendale at North Minoc Plains Tram and see my vendors.

If I got a hitching post, it would be pure decoration for the stables in my second house.

If I got the books for the shelves, I'd likely sell the shelves (but I don't have a thief, so it's a moot point). As desperately as I want the bookshelves, they just aren't worth the cost in my eyes.

Aren't the original ones like that? I know the replicas have recharge limits, but I thought that the originals didn't.

I could be wrong...I couldn't justify the extra $10mil cost between the original and replica...so I only have the replica.

When first announced, I was excited to get a hitching post... exactly, would have been great for RP events and player towns. But when I found out they had to be recharged... I haven't bothered.

I disagree that unlimited hitching posts would add to the number of players going to town. Having one wouldn't change my town habits. People either go or they don't, and there are enough cities there is no way to make them go to the same place as anyone else. This falls back on what so many said in the "What you like about UO" topic, and so many answered... "freedom".

My tamer's the only character I have that could get the animal pheromone but is positive karma so, no, I can't really farm the ingredients (nor justify the expense).. so I don't use the post.

I managed to swipe three stacks of books to make the bookcase myself, very proud to have my maker's mark on all three. One I kept for myself, one I gave to a friend who keeps a library, one went to my other friend who runs an event museum. After that, I either lost track of the respawn times, or someone beat me to it. In either case, it's rather a shame they are so scarce.

They would be more useful if you could use them anywhere, if you carried them in your backpack.

I see no point when it takes me 10 seconds to recall to a stable and choose which pet I want for no extra cost.

Let's see...

As Morgana pointed out, the hitching post costs about 2-3 mil on my shard. It's good for 15 uses plus another 15 uses with a recharge for about 500K, total cost then 2.5-3.5 mil, and then it goes *POOF*

That's an average of 100K gold per use. It costs ZERO to recall to the stables. The only use I can think might make it worth the cost would be on a red tamer.

I don't have one. May get one at some point, but I would have preferred to see a real option I could use in our RP town. I would love to stable pets at home rather than swing past the stables after every hunt, but I'm too much of a cheapskate to waste charges like that.

I think the shelves and posts could have been implimented much better, not such "luxury" items for want of a better word.

I 'own' an island with a level 6 tmap spot on, so I have a public hitching post on the steps of one of my houses. Not sure if its any use to treasure hunters, but eh :)

I use mine when Im out hunting and too lazy to rune to the stables. They were a great idea and I, too was excited about them when I first read we were getting them.

The main draw back is the parts needed to make them. Most of the parts are simple to obtain and not that much of a hassle, but getting the steeds for one can be quite difficult, and could take you weeks of hunting to get a drop.

They should either replace the steed needed to make one with something that you can obtain within a reasonable amount of time or start selling the steeds in the stables. Better yet, drop the candy canes, cards, and other small useless gifts and give us steeds that we can actually use.

Well, all they would need to do is increase the drop rate of the Phillips Steed rather than replace it with something else. I am glad that this artie got a use other than deco.

Nope, I managed to make 3, one for myself, one for my sister and one for my niece. I used up all the extra bridles and steeds I had then we threw some white nets to get the ropes. Unfortunately mine will just be for decoration.

I can see making them a bit difficult to craft to begin with. But the ingredients to recharge them should be easier to get.

As for the bookcases, I doubt I will ever own one of them. :sad4:

Lucky!

As for the OP, we have two at our two Keeps, mainly Deco, since it was so hard to get all we had to have to make those two we just keep them for emergency only, and use mainly to deco the front door area.

And we still don't have the books to make the full bookcase, I am still wishing they had used the Doom Books for this, then there would have been a market for those books again. There are 4 books in Doom, three are at Victoria/Summon room and the last is across in the Gauntlet resing room. They could have made it to use all four books to make that bookcase and not have a requirement for those new books at all.

I will most like get a 11th anniv bookcase before I get one of the Books from Bedlam to make my own.

It is pure 100% vanity item. The people who DO have them, have like 18 nailed down along their porch like the delegates are inside signing the damn Declaration of Independence. The rest of us don't have one at all, and don't use it.

If they're going to add timesinks for the bored old rich players, I'd rather it be relatively useless junk like the hitching post, than something like overpowered rewards from library donations or something else that is generally out of the time investment range of casual players.

I guess you guys don't realize something very important about the available hitching post options - I have one from the 11th anniversary collection and it works much differently (better) than the ones you craft - the 11th ac one is actually useful as hell compared to the craftable one

the differences:
1) the 11th ac hitching post doesn't use a charge to stable your pets which is huge and anyone can use it to stable their pets regardless of how its security is set - friends/owner/anyone etc.

2) you get 30 charges per rope instead of 15

3) you can recharge it an infinite number of times

4) it's silver colored instead of bronze colored

I have one in my castle that came from the Japanese shards and it's awesomeness personified

Why? Why would anyone ever "NEED" to stable a pet at your house? It's just a vanity item. Most players even if they stabled a pet at their house, would immediately go to Luna for something anyway so it's like, what's the diff?

Now tell me how in the world would MOST of us know ANYTHING about the hitching post from the 11th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION since MOST of us CAN'T get one??????? :yell:

Think about it.

If all the tamers/vets got their animals out of their house they wouldn't need to goto town.

If they didn't goto town how am I going to find someone to res my fire beetle after a PK kills my miner?

I have ran my miner a few times with my ghost beetle in tow into dastard, swoops and a few other places tamers hang out at looking for help.

I couldn’t imagine how I could find a tamer if this thing actually worked.

I'm of the opinion that people already can do plenty in their houses and towns are barely used other than to afk, stable, sell trash or use a repair deed. Or break a check.

At this point it's getting to the point of... why not just let you have npc blacksmiths and tailors and provisioners in your house, and a little crystal that lets you open your bankbox at home.

There are actually quite a few for sale in Luna on Atlantic, but they run from 11-20 mil. Probably because they had to be Xsharded, but still...that's an awful lot of money for something that you can recall and do in town in a matter of seconds.

Things like that which are available to ONLY a select few should have been treated like SP, they should NOT have been allowed to be transferred to different shards so that the select few could make millions.

What is worse, when they do finally hit US shards...how stupid are the people that paid that much going to feel when you can get like 5 of them for $4.99. :D

Exactly! And unfortunately people are tired of playing the waiting game month after month after month for the rest of us to get the items so some people are going to be or already are stupid enough to pay the exorbinant price for those. It makes my blood boil that they allowed them to transfer those items . . . GRRRRRR

The one thing (besides price) that kept me from buying one of the 11th anniversary ones is that I know we will eventually get them, and I will have wasted a TON of gold that I could otherwise spend on otherwise useless crap :D

I honestly don't think I have seen any on LS yet. But I wouldn't buy it anyway because it really angers me that they would be there.

Oh wait now that I think about it, I may have seen the BOD covers. Maybe . . . not sure now.

I have tried to be an optimist in thinking that we will eventually get them, but I'm really fading on it.

OK yes i admit i use mine yep the crappy version with limited use

Mainly i use it when i have guests over and don't wish to be rude going to stables to put away a pet handy for my crafter who rides blue bug but makes golems now and then for pplz

My tamer uses it occasionally when i am in a rush and need my pet switched though i use my pet ball to claim the pet i want to save charges though i love it for stableing pets i just wish they would give us 5 stable slots not 2 for all characters

nope, i made one, cdid claim list to check to see if it actually worked and it's been sitting unused since ... sigh
i think it's because of waiting for something like this for 11 years took it's toll and now it's not a big deal :(

No way. Too many rare ingredients and too few uses. I'm not spending that much time or money on anything with those limitations.

Same for the bookshelves. I still don't get why craftable decorations require such expensive, rare items to make, that my crafter would have no chance in the world to ever get.

Disappointment in the extreme on the implementation.

Ya, I really wish they look into this again and use the Doom Books to allow us to make the full bookcases for our home. Those four books in doom are not selling today, it would make a good market for vendors to sell those four books if they made it a requirement to use all four to make it.
