Allow gating off ship keys.

I know, I know...this is kinda Siege specific, but this would be a nice feature to have added to Siege, and there might be an increase in my ability to steal ships on Siege. Right now, since gating is the only method of magical travel on Siege, there is no way for players to get themselves to a ship that isn't docked without the aid of a GM.

Is there a reason that gating was never allowed in the first place? The key is the rune to the ship...if you have enough magery to cast gate...you could go to your current ship's location, especially if there is a server error and you are knocked off your ship while sailing...la

I would rather be able to mark rune on the boat.

That would be fine, but I would imagine that would take more coding work than my original suggestion.

The other problem I would have with that, is that you could hide that rune in a rune book. LOL, if ships actually start getting used again on Siege, I'd love the chance to steal them again, lol...la

Oh come on, other than to mine, how often do people actually use ships these days? If it were easier to get to them, more people would use them...and yes, it would give me more chance to find a key in someone's pack, lol...la

you used to be be able to mark runes on boats, but people would mark run move their boat and wait for some one to put their boat in the same spot where the rune is marked. Then loot the hull of the boat.

and while we are on the topic how about some incentive to own a ship?

maybe an ocean only dungeon

maybe some ocean specific boss monsters or high end hunts

perhaps an island that cant be recalled or gated too, like ilshiner, but you need a boat to get there

take buck's den's gate away, and make it a faction town....

Agree - we lost 3 Siege boats to either "server errors" and/or exploits - sure would have helped if we could actually gate via the key when the GMs were not answering the queue :( Heck - I'd much rather the boats had been actually stolen by a capable thief than shredded by a server malfunction or exploit vulnerability! At least there would be a chance to buy em back!

How about some islands that you can only get to by boat with special critters and such and make them no recal gate islands make it so they have a harbor or dock you have to pay to moor the boat kinda like stable master and make the rest of the surrounding water a no park zone so the only way you can access island is to moor the boat?

Yeah, the last ship keys I stole, I had to page a GM just to have them transport me to my new ship...since I had no idea where the previous owner had parked it. LOL. A few times the GM couldn't find it...:( so I just trashed the keys...la

They already have something like this in Fel. It works great. However, I highly doubt it would work in Trammel.

lol @ a thief suggesting a Thief upgrade.

I find it funny whenever Rico suggest things for his template since he acts like a tool at every other persons suggestion for his shard.

La ....humbug...

No Rico doesn't. Rico only disagrees with the ideas Rico thinks will harm the shard Rico plays...la

This does not need to be SP only. It would be nice to have this on the other shards, for group activities. Leave it up to the foolish player to open a gate in a public place to his boat. It would be no different than it is now when a player casts gate from his boat to the bank (and they do).

Well, the reason I said that is, there is currently no way for a player on Siege to transport themselves onto a ship except by walking on, or having a GM teleport them via the key.

No recall, no sacred journey...gating is the only way we could do that, but at the time, you cannot gate off a ship's key...la

Gating on ship keys should be an ability granted to the Pirate Expansion, for the Pirate Class/skill set.

To paraphrase a dialog at the San Diego Townhall meeting:

Questioner: When are we going to have a Pirate Expansion?

Leuro... err, nameless UO representative: We have heard a lot of interest in a Pirate Class from players. I would like to do that.

Questioner: Is that why EA decided to create a gargoyle expansion?

nameless UO representative: *Evil smirk* Next question -

You are anti recall/SV....but you want the benefits it gives on other shards because it will benefit you as theif?

Notice the hypocrisy there?

First off it's "thief".

Next point, sure it would help any thief, but at the same time, it would help anyone on the shard with enough magery to cast the gate spell. Heck for that matter, it would help anyone on any shard with enough magery to cast the spell...la

Can keys be insured on Seige? I guess the idea is if you have the key you are the owner, but if you can gate you don't need to have the key to board the ship. Would make for some interesting sea battles if keys could be stolen and ships boarded via a Gate off the key.

I am sorry you just...don't...seem...to...get...it...

Boats follow the same rules as houses...and like houses...you cannot gate TO the inside of them....hence the inability to GATE from a boat key...since you are trying to gate ONTO it. DUR!

Stop being such a (la)zy thief...please?

You also cant recall into houses, but you can recall on ship keys.
The request to allow gating from ship keys (or using the ship key on a rune to get it's current position marked on that rune) and gate on it to reach the ship is definitively a valid one. GMs would be free for more important tasks, and given the high price for a ship on Siege the chance to recover the ship is much better.

Like I said...sounds like another example of Siegers wanting production benefits when it suits their playstyle.

I was told hundreds of times when I brought up recall that part of Siege is the travel.

Travel to your ship the old fashioned way. If you lose your ship, its lost. If you forget where it ended up...you lost your ship.

Siegers act like its supposed to be about traveling. Yet here you are asking for a "trammy" benefit.

"La"me.

ROFL. Someone seems to have gotten their feelings hurt when they brought up trammy proposals for Siege, and had them shot down in a flame of glory. This is far from it.

There, you've been ...la'd.

I think Rico is right, at least for SP.

When I played SP, I was kicked off line while sailing, re log in and I am standing on shore with a useless key and lost the boat, twice.

I do think that this is a great opportunity for a "pirate ability" - to be able to cast gate and target the boat captain on a neighboring boat and create a "boarding portal" for a pirate battle.

Like an "8th circle" spell for the "Pirate Class" - "Cast boarding portal" so your scaly wag crew of cutlass waving ruffians can "swing across". Add some risk of falling overboard related to the Pirate class skill level while using the gate maybe.

Abilities of a Pirate Class:

"Handle yer Rum" - dispells curses
"Shiver mi Timbers" - casts an area effect
"Avast ye Mateys" - casts boarding portal to neighboring ship
"Yo ho ho" - summons sea serpent
"Arr" - causes a slowing wind in the sails

I can go on all day with Pirate Classifications; in several nationalities probably. But that's not the thread topic.
