Should characters with 480 or less total skillpoints be immune to faction statloss?

so people can make a character with the same amount of skillpoints as you'd have in statloss, avoid losing any skillpoints for death by faction enemy... not have to sit for 20 minute cuz you died, while still being at the same % skillpoint handicap that you would actually have from statloss, even if you don't die to any enemy...:spider:

why not make a full skill char and suicide before you start fight then?

Trying to make it so faction thiefs can just try and steal sigils over and over again without any penalty for stat? Oh wait. . . there is no point in defending sigils right now anyways.

Well, since factions are not the only way to PvP, I'll say no.
Players with only 480 or less skill points would likely be slaughtered by the others anyways.
No way this would improve PvP

I disagree, seeing as I (and many others) can get kills with a mage/tamer 1vs1 without using any pets.

they can already do that by having 120 stealing, or by using skill items.
actually, it's just exactly what it looks like. if they made this change, i would make a 480 skillpoint pure mage to use when/if my mains are in put into stat.:spider:

because then you would be dead and in statloss before you even got to the fight... this way you could have a few 120s that don't get lowered when you die, you have the same % of handicap as you would have in statloss even if you dont go into statloss, but you still have your few 120s even if you die to an enemy, which is better than having 120s that turn to 80s when you go in statloss.... but not as good as having 6 120s without being in statloss.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who would make a 480 skillpoint pure mage, if this change were put into the live game.

to sum it up... the 480skillpoint char isn't as good as a full 720skillpoint char, but it's better than getting statloss.
480skill char that's immune to statloss > a 720skill char in statloss

You forgot the option for "No, its just not a good idea". A 480 skill mage is NOT at the same disatvantage as someone in stat - not even close. Someone in stat loss is lacking most or all damage bonuses, significant DCI and HCI, ability to cast higher circle spells, so on. A 480 skill mage's only disatvantage is not having extra skills like Necro, Parry, Wrestle, etc - actually, you could even HAVE one of the above on 480 skills .. so no, its just a bad idea.

FWIW, I would make a char with 120 Weapon skill, 120 Tacts, 120 Anat, 120 Healing. All the rest on a dexer is just gravy anyway ... pots, petals, boxes and one hard hitting weapon, plus faction bandies and I would probably stomp your pure mage.

qft

I didn't say it was the same disadvantage, and I was very clear that it's a different disadvantage. How does that make it a bad idea then if the idea wasn't 'to give them the same disadvantage'?
Even if your answer is "No, it's just a bad idea.", even then your answer falls into one of the options given.

p.s. there's a pretty fair chance that either of us could win that fight... and both of those characters would be at a disadvantage vs full characters... it's a trade off basically, you take a lesser disadvantage ALL the time, regardless if you win or die, as a trade up from having a bigger disadvantage only some of the time.

Let's see...
120 archery
120 tactics
120 anatomy
120 healing

OR
120 magery
120 Eval
120 Med
120 resist

Never go into stat loss

Is that what you are looking for?

Neither one is exactly what I would use, no.
Were you trying to make some kind of point?

Yea....
Anyways I dont know what the OP is trying to accomplish here. It's like playing WoW and making a level 19 or 29 twink......

Maybe the OP is trying to make same kind of non-combat character that will be spending a LOT of time in Fel (most likely collecting something) and wants to be able to continue what hes doing even if caught my an enemy. The reason for joining faction is probably because faction artifacts.

But thats just a guess... lol.

If the OP hates stat loss that much dont join faction so you are immune to any sort of skillloss.

There's really no reason to put an incomplete character in faction outside of getting leet gears.

Well, guess again... I don't even have a resource gathering char...

It's not about me hating statloss, I don't mind statloss.. it's just an idea to add to the fun of pvp.
they're not 'incomplete' characters if your goal is to make a complete character of 480skillpoint total.

With the better pvp gear from factions too, a character using 480skillpoint total actually still would have a pretty fair chance vs most of the nonfaction players, on at least my shard.

yes instead of a nonfaction character.

I can see what your saying and I certainly don't think this is an underhanded way to capitalize on the faction system like some people have inferred.

However, faction statloss was designed to add some sort of finality to a kill (as far as I have been led to beleive) meaning that when your faction character dies, your out of the battle for a set time.

This is supposed to allow for battles to come to an end when one faction has been wiped out and all in stat.

The recent changes to factions have watered this down somewhat, as players can now have several characters in faction and come back out on other toons they have in the same faction.

Your suggestion would mean that no faction battle could really ever come to a conclusion because once someones main characters are dead, they just hop onto their 480 skill pure mage/warrior and no matter how many times they die, they just keep coming back.

This defeats the purpose of stat loss and in my eyes would be a bad idea.

non vets shouldn't even be in faction
why not? what harm does it cause? what is your proposal for keeping them out? implement a skill limit 'must have 700 skill points to join faction'?

@ mistura, it wouldn't be a bad thing. remember that a 480skillpoint character is much easier to kill than a 720 skillpoint character. they can die 30x and keep coming back, but they're still not going to have the upper hand against the 720ers.
What's so great about 'battles coming to an end' anyways?
people enjoy sitting on their hands and having nothing to do while they wait for the sigil timer?
