A short time ago, the entire Royal Council was murdered, and an ambassador known as Casca remained as the sole survivor of the attack. Shortly thereafter, the former ambassador was hailed as the new King of Britannia, his coronation determined by the vote of a newly-elected, secret council.
Announced by the town criers, Casca gave a speech atop a pedestal at Castle Blackthorn, where he now takes residence, flanked by the Royal Guard. He announced taxation; wars against the Ophidians, the Shadowlords, and the Followers of Armageddon; and removal of city independence. He also claimed a man known as Owain Surrey to be a false prophet, under the influence of the Shadowlords, and indicated Avery, the Captain of the Royal Guard, had been imprisoned, charged with the murder of the Royal Council.
Many citizens of our shard were outraged, both by his sudden ascension to the throne and his authoritarian and dictatorial tone. Shortly after his speech concluded, none other than Sherry the Mouse appeared, asking questions regarding his legitimacy and qualifications to serve as King.
Around this time, two Emissaries moved into the Counselor's Guild just outside Castle Blackthorn: Kasaven and Annendora. Kasaven was intimately involved with the stories unfolding above, while Annendora was focused on establishing wedding services for our shard.
Kasaven told us more of Owain Surrey; apparently, he was a former augur to Lord British whose family was executed by order of Lord Blackthorn, during his submission to the Shadowlords.
Citizens gathered in the Chamber of Virtue to discuss Casca's rise to power, and the impact his pronouncements would have on our shard's population. When we arrived, we found the Chamber filled by Royal Guards standing silently at attention. In the midst of the meeting, Owain Surrey appeared in the crowd, and was chased by the Royal Guard to the Counselor's Guild, where Annendora was knocked unconscious, and Kasaven was kidnapped by unknown assailants.
Since then, via books left at the Counselor's Guild in Britain and various conversations, Surrey has revealed the following:
- The secret council, who appear to hold office underground, are using Casca as a puppet.
- Kasaven is being held somewhere underground, where two statues facing south are present. Later comments by Owain indicate he has not explored Covetous, Destard or Deceit (Covetous' third-level entrance is known to have two statues facing south).
- The last message indicated a strike force would be assembled around Valentine's Day to rescue Kasaven.
On February 1st, a wedding between Va'lis Razele and Melina Gerson was held by Emissary Annendora. At the conclusion of the event, she announced the Robed Ones had assigned her to a new shard, and that she would be leaving shortly, to be replaced by a man named Cerrneous.
