Why hasn't the crash when items moved bug been fixed yet?

If someone is dragging an item or equips an item, your chances of crashing when recalling/gating/teleporting are virtually assured. This is an easily reproducible bug that has been in the game for many months now (at least 6 I think). Yet it is not fixed yet. People are posting often asking why do I crash when so-so happens and many times it sounds like this bug. This bug is even being exploited to force players to client crash in PVP situations.

I would just like to know why this has not been fixed yet.

Ok, don't have an answer to you're question, but I don't want to start another thread about crash bugs and this could very well be related to what I've been experiencing. Having only been playing again (using KR) for a ~month now after years of abscence, the only crashing I ever seem to experience is at champ spawns. A LOT. I mean like, at least once per level of spawn. This seriously sucks. Could this have something to do with it or does anyone else know what the problem could be?

I've generally lumped those champion spawn crashes as general "graphics overload" issues KR gets if I run around long enough (especially around uneven ground).

By the way, has anyone been getting crashes while fishing as you cross a server line? (I'm wondering if this recurring issue for me is at all related to the item-drag bug - if I pull up a fish at the exact tick I cross the server line, does it sit in limbo?) edit: I haven't checked this seen this since the last publish

I am also tired of recall/gate crashes. It is to the point that I run to an area where I do not think anyone is hanging out if I am recalling to a dangerous area. I run regular uo 2d with uoa and I crash less than my friends running KR.

First thing with KR, defrag your hard drive. Then do it again, and again. I defrag 3 times after every patch, just because the patches are so huge. In fact, I use Freeware program called Smart Defrag that also "optimizes" files by putting them together, not just defragging files.

Then adjust the cache settings in User Settings into the middle ranges. KR seems to run better there. Next, turn off shadows and set particle effects to medium or low... this made the best performance gains for me.

KR doesn't seem to be affected by the moving items/recall/gate bug.

And why not? Why wouldn't you do something to help both your computer and the game client run better? Do you never defrag and back up?

The first time I heard about the CAUSE of this bug was during the Magincia invasion when people would crash running through the dock-gate if a monster just died. That was Oct-Nov 2007. The bug itself has been around longer than that, but how much longer I can't say, since I was just a returning newbie then.

Before then I just heard "Crash bug, why don't they fix it!" in situations where looking back, the items-moved bug must have been the cause.

I first noticed this crash bug in 2d roughly 6 mo after the release of KR (coincidentally right after one of the KR pubs). Considering this bug is part of what made the last big dupe WORK I am very surprised this hasn't been fixed. Problem is, do you think EA is going to tell you KR is the culprit? More than likely we will see a fix once the *new and improved* client hits the shelves. *hopes*

I guess, because it is a bit harder to fix than normal bugs.
Must have something to do how the information is transferred and rewriting that sounds like a pain.
And it is not game breaking either, just annoying

Beg to differ... I've only run into the issue during PvP... so a crash is kind of game breaking(ie I'm dead):hahaha:

I seem to get nailed when I am trying to grab life bars during PvP. *pull* *CRASH*:yell:

That crash might be a different bug. I haven't noticed people moving things when I fall victim to the pulling-a-health-bar crash, but it does seem to only happen when travelling in groups. So it could be related.

Yes, this needs to be fixed....It's moved from a great annoyance to a major annoyance. Major, major annoyance.

I've been noticing it more because of champ spawns....In Fel it doesn't matter, there's not a single Fel spawn you can recall out of, so who cares.

But in Ilsh, you can recall as soon as the champ goes down. This, of course, roughly coincides with people dragging gold off the ground, thus assuring a crash. I have to go about 3 screens away.

Not defragging your computer after a download, especially ones as large as KR gets, is probably in the top 3 dumbest things you can do. A fragmented hard drive takes much longer to locate files, which makes your computer run about as fast as a 1 legged dog. I'd add to the advice, and say you should also do a disc cleanup prior to the defrag so you can clear out the large number of temporary files that get left after any download.

Doing a defrag after a download will do nothing since that file you are so concerned about will be be used ONLY ONCE during install and then deleted. Doing a defrag AFTER YOU INSTALL what you downloaded and then deleted the original file makes sense.

The bugs getting worse if anything.
I crash EVERY time i recall out of luna.
I also crash almost everytime i recall out of a champ spawn (after it ends)
I assume thats because everyones dragging the gold from the spawn.

I have marked runebook vendors, so i goto the towns alot to buy runes.. It's getting old that everytime i leave a town, esp luna, i crash and the runes go under all my books when i log back on.

But anyway, just friggin fix it *growls*

When this first started happening I was wondering why I was always crashing when recalling out of Spirituality Moongate in Ilshenar. This went on for a week or more. Then when I found out that it happens when players equip/move items it made sense.

A couple days ago we were trying to do the Bedlam champion spawn. We got wiped out and had to leave the dungeon. Unfortunatly, due to this bug, people just kept crashing every single time going back in because the healer is right outside the entrance. So someone died, comes out, resurrects and starts their dress macro. Another person is ready to go and tries to enter the dungeon. They crash, die, come out, resurrect and equip their items. The person who caused the crash is now ready to go inside and guess what, they person they crashed now crashes them and you are caught in an endless loop.

They're too busy doing important things, like implementing UO weddings and nerfing heal potions.
