I remember back before AoS, macing use to actually damage armor a lot better than other weapon skills. Due to the fact it just seemed logical to assume a blunt weapon would do more damage to armor.

So, I want to bring up the idea that macing do more damage to armor like it use to. Maybe not as much, but enough to make somone who loves their armor to be a little worrisome about fighting toe-to-toe with a macer.

Explain your thoughts.

Yeah

Because it was fun...and because if you could stay alive long enough, you could do some serious damage to the other fellas gear :) At least cost him that, even if ya did eventually fall.

Who knows? If this was made right, might even sell armor again :p

I voted yes, my 120 macing sits on a soul stone. I support item insurance, and loathe restricting durability (PoF) and enhancing. Macing, on players (PvP) and certain creatures (PvM) has always seemed to me the more appropriate solution.

my friend did a crushing blow (before aos when weapons would randomly do specials) with a war hammer to someone and broke the guys double blessed black sandals :)

I would just like to see more incentive to use other mace weapons such as war hammers and war maces in PvP. Now to do well in PvP it's all about swing speed, and as we all know, most mace weapons are incredibly slow. I like the war mace, it's my favorite weapon, but because of the slowness there isn't really any incentive to use it.

Same goes with most axes, but they have that nice bonus to damage if they have lumber jacking.

I agree. I think that every weapons skill should have some perks; not shared by the other classes. Right now, swordsmanship and fencing are virtually interchangable; while Mace Fighting is looked upon as the red-headed step child of the fighting skills.

I thought it was appropriate that macing damaged/destroyed armor. I'd like it back .... full throttle.

I'd like to see maces do damage to armor again. Maybe not breaking clothing, but reducing durability on armor definitely. I loved to play my macer, even during my guild run pvp tournaments if people knew that macers were attending everyone hopped in using regular crafted armor. Evened the playing field considerably.

Perhaps even making it so that swords did more damage to leather armor, fencing did more to chainmail/ringmail and maces did more to platemail. So if you fought someone pvp and reduced their armor to zero it would knock the piece off into their backpack. And in pvm just classify each monster an armor type so that if you had the weapon that worked best against it you would do more damage. Scales = fencing, flesh/hide = swords, plating/bone = maces...or something similar. Perhaps give archery a small percentage chance at finding a chink in the armor and doing more damage.

True. I don't think anything should outright be destroyed without going through step by step damage, an example of the wrong direction can be seen in a post above where sandles, an item without durability, was destroyed outright. Back in the day this did occur, same thing with robes. On items without durability - shoes, robes, aprons, cloaks etc, again, wrong direction. It's a separate debate as to whether or not these items should have durability, but the last thing we need is old/ rare items to loose value due to adding durability for the sake of damage. If dev should opt to go this route, more power to them, but it is a change that should include the ability for unlimited, or a very high limit on durability itself via PoF. And the items that PoF can't be used on, should be changed to allow for it. Again, I support the idea, somewhat strongly support it, but it shouldn't be a stand alone inplementation.

Ummm... get your facts straight first...
Where did that come from?

Macing does damage armor & Weapons faster.. over 3x faster as a Matter of fact. It also drains more stamina for the same amout of damage than other weapon types...

True, and thanks for the link. My understanding of the OP's intent, as the question is worded, was should it go back to the rough/ tumble days, change to some "middle ground" between those days and what we now have, or stay as it is.

Indeed. I do believe it would be nice to go back to the rough/tumble days, hehe.

But yes Vexxed, macing still has a greater chance at damaging armor, but it still does it a lot slower than it use to do.

According to the link, all weapons have a chance at damaging a piece of armor at 20%, whereas macing has 75%. I am suggesting that macing should do more damage than it is currently. Not raising the frequency of how often it damages armor, but the amount of damage it does to armor.

Such as depending on your skills, it should have a chance for a bonus amount of damage it does on armor. Maybe it could be based on the arms lore skill.

When I first started on Pac in 1998, a friend had scads of plate armor he'd looted from mobs and silly players. To help me train my macing, he'd wear the plate and I'd beat on his silly arse.

He'd bandage and another buddy was casting heals on us both. One night we (well ... I) destroyed 2 full sets of plate armor! I have to assume the durability dropped steadily and not 100% drop as he'd Item ID a piece and remark on how fast the messages about wear were changing.

Any item of armor or clothing with durability should suffer damage from mace weapons, IMO. In fact someone remarked in this thread or elsewhere that each weapon class should have something unique. I agree ... macing uniqueness = reducing durability quickly and possibly destruction of the item.

I agree as well.

Macing = Stamina drain and equipment loss. (btw the stam drain is underrated, necro macers rock)

Swords = Maybe a tiny amount of mana drain (2-3 per hit, it adds up).

Fencing = Chance to reduce phys (like Hiyru's, but not as strong - maybe 5 points). I don't know, swap that with swords maybe. Just something.

Anyway one thing I do know is that weapons like Halberds/Long spears/bardiche should have like a 2-3 tile swing range.

Better yet I think,
macing does 5x damage to leaf/leather armor,
4x damage to hide, chain, studded,
3x damage to plate, woodland

Probably forgot a few there, but you get the idea. Make plate useful again.

I'm curious, there are a small number of people who vote no, but no one posted why they voted no. I can assume that it's because no one likes getting their armor destroyed and they think it should last forever? hehe

But anyways, this would help increase the need for armor. In this day armor does last forever. If it runs low, they just use PoF. If it's damage, they repair it. When was the last time someone actually had their armor destroyed?

Such a change would basically ignore that the game is more item-based now.

And that, as is the case with the repeated proposals to do away with insurance, to lose an item would be a lot like losing a skill in the old days.
