That's an interesting choice of angle to show the new gargoyle pics from ... given that we're still in a top-down game :) (hmm ... gargoyle wings are rather draconic-looking at texture)

I notice the client has an extra icon on the lower right side.

Two levels of the abyss? Oops, I thought it was more - I must have been looking at the wrong info. Hmm ... if one is done, that means we're closer than I thought.

Will Ter Mur be available through the moongates or do you need to go through the SA to reach it?

The maps look like they have quite a lot of z-axis activity going on - cliffs and such.

Unparalleled difficulty is good ... but what about those of us who like looking for interesting systems/minigames puttering about in less-hostile territory? What range of power levels will find a home in Ter Mer?

It looks oki, but then so did KR until you tried to play it. I like that the radar map is much clearer, I hope this one will play as good as it looks. I want to like it, I really do.

Now I can't play SA - or at least, can't go to some of the areas!

In the wildlands_03 image they show a suspension type bridge over a void - I just KNOW that as soon as I wander that way my husband will come up behind me and start jumping up and down to make the whole thing (including me!) wobble!

*grins*

REALLY like the look of the areas! And lots more cliff type things, make it look a lot more "alive" - some of the buildings in the wildlands are quite pretty too =)

And whoever did the concept art for the entrance - that picture is just lovely!

Looks interesting just from an exploration perspective.

meh. looks alright. has too much of a grainy looking texture but as far as UO goes it'll work.

on a side note.. the screen shot of the gargoyle city/waterfall uses the same arcitecture as above britannia.. to be underground for ages, I wouldn't expect their race to use or even have a use for shingles. more like stone ceilings/walls. any chance this might get changed along with new house additions?

I like it and maybe it is just me but the graphics look tighter hope it plays as well as it looks I will be dissapointed if the KR client is still buggy!

Anyone knows if they also update the monster AI and spawning AI which would be also very interesting to see?

More dynamic spawning and also a better monster ai instead of more hitpoints?

Sure hope there is some 2d love cause looking at that crap its going to need some.

How about getting points of fire right so they look like fire under a kettle, not fire burning on the side of a kettle.(just the first of many things I looked at that hrrm kill it for me).

Get get ready for round two of Epic (fill in the blank).

The Abyss is abject horror. The beings that dwell there have absolute power. If you can manage to escape them for even a moment, then yes...you are free to kill other humans there.

Let me advise you all, I spent a great deal of time in the abyss, and it is not what you think it to be. Be warned. When this rift is opened, and the Abyss lays bare before you...you will understand the horrors that it contains.

Nothing can prepare you.

Behold...the Great Abyss...





...Hell Awaits.

The screenshots make me wonder how different they COULD have looked had the Dev Team stuck to the original plan for SA (particularly any buildings or multi-tile items).

neither are working like intended or very well yet lets add another expansion into the mix with this new gargoyole stuff.

you dont fix bugs, problems by adding more to it.

Well, the new landmass seems to be interesting.

However, the screenshots... well... still no revolutionary changes. Looks like a zoomable 2D-Client with KR environment artwork and a KR interface. I hope that's just a beta preview, and they're really going to improve artwork.

You would think the Gargoyles would be holding their weapons of choice.... Soul Glaive/Cyclone/boomerang. They are bladeweavers, aren't they? Why a sword????????????

Stick with the lore! If the main page can't get it right, what does that say about consistency?

If these Stygian Gargoyles are knowledeable about Mystism, then does this mean that the usual Gargoyles we see daily are going to start casting this ancient magic?

I'm not sure if it's been discussed, but I'm confused about the difference in gargoyles. What's the lore for the common gargoyles and the Stygian gargolyes? Are the commons some kind of outcasts that forgot mystism and took up Magery to survive?

Interesting questions.. I hope there's stuff for the non-godly among us. I wonder if there'll be new herdables..

I also hope that monster AI has been amped up rather than just stats. I'd rather see deadly-clever beasties than mindless brutes.

Same id like to see the AI adapt (if possible) so that once you have found a tactic and it has been used on it, it no longer works its finds YOUR weakness and STOMPS you!!!

This game has got Far too easy!!!

Before SA is added in EA should really vamp up the loot of all of the high end monsters to match peerless quality (as is now), then make peerless's have a minimum intensity just like strongboxes (i.e I think strongboxes are 13% or 14% minimum hit chance).

Then make the toughest bosses have a higher minimum.

So will we have to wait a year or two before we're allowed to access it using the 2D client? You know, like they tried with Ilshenar? And miserably backfired?

Oh well. I see the characters in-game still don't look any better in this "new" client than in the original Turd Dawn.

Well they took out the only reasonable AI this game ever had, which was orc scouts and archery monsters keeping their distance from you.

I don't think we know the lore yet.

There's every indication that they are going to deal with these issues, however.

The evil gargoyles who wander our lands are kind of distant cousins of the Ilshenar gargoyles. Off-hand I could surmise that the Stygian Gargoyles are yet another cousin.

It looks like a great meger of 2D with the positve aspects of KR.
Graphically better. More depth. A great change.

I actually liked the screenshots quite a bit. They make me want to explore and see more.

Yep, definitely nice shots - some real quality worldbuilding, especially compared with the tosh we saw in ML.

It would be very interesting to know whether these are "pan out" shots for the sake of a pretty picture, (stuff always looks better zoomed out ;)), or the SA client will actually be dramatically increasing the viewable play area.

Ugh, the old 2D stuff does not work anymore, I really hope that we have KR art we can use for all of it if we can. The 2D stuff is so low quality in comparison.

This is going how it should have been in the first place:

Create a new client that looks exactly like the old
Get 95% conversion
Declare victory
Kill 2D
Turn KR loose

I just hope they don't put a toggle on the art and fix the housing display issue.

- So, I noticed 10 days ago that Draconi mentioned, "... our local team is completely nose down in Stygian Abyss..."
On December 12th, Calvin said on uo.com, "... We’re preparing both the New UO client and the first completely playable level to internal testers next week. We are also planning how we want to run beta internally and externally, and as soon as we have a complete answer on it all, we’ll inform you as well..."
I also notice there are still 3 sections on the SA website that aren't available (Weapons, Mobs, FAQ).

I hope they take every bit of time that they need to get her looking good; but still, I am curious about when the Stygian Abyss will open.
I'm guessing asap (I know they said they would not release it until it was ready & honestly is any evolving MMO truly ever ready? Yet, I also know the economy has changed quite a bit since then and would even bet, sheesh, that some of the suits upstairs are once again urging UO to release the next potential revenue generator.. asap), so I'm guessing around end of Feb. or March.

I click on the "web site" link but only get a dark page with nothing interesting to click on...

Doesn't look that much different than the current KR client. I can still see that they are using the was out of scale character models so I have to assume that they still run like in KR , badly.
